2022 Formula One Season
Precisely... The teams should be the judge of who gets a seat. Does it matter that Verstappen was 16? He was clearly competitive already. Raikkonen was older, but surely if a team wants to take the risk, and the driver has done the testing mileage, it should be the teams call. If they want to chase money/branding (and end up with a Ricardo Rosset or Yuji Ide) that's their call - the 107% rule will stop them from racing. ๐คทโโ๏ธ I can't see the likes of Ferrari or Mercedes opting for a pay driver anyway That being said, Indycar should (almost undoubtedly) be somewhere between F1 and F2 in the open wheel motorsport ladder... It's silly that their drivers have such an uphill battle to get superlicense points!

2022 Formula One Season
I'm driver market news: Alpine are apparently after GaslyAlphaTauri apparently want to snap up Herta from Indycar (which is also dependant on Andretti allowing this) FIA are apparently considering whether to allow him to move over, but have reservations due to the number of superlicense points he hasMy view is that the superlicense really shouldn't be a thing. If it is, it really needs to be weighted appropriately. There is absolutely zero way that 4th place in Indy should be of less value than fourth in F2... LET ALONE F3 FFS! Super Formula should probably be weighted the same as F2 too. I get that the FIA want to encourage people to make their way through their own series', but who goes in the car should be the teams decision. There should maybe be a safety test, or a requirement to have had a certain number of miles in the last 5 years (in a 2 year old F1 car maybe), but otherwise the decision should be the teams. The 107% rule is there for a reason, and anyone who should be able to at least get a spot on the grid will soon be shown the door (as much as Latifi is meh, he's in no way a Raghunathan or Calderรณn [as much as I'd love to see a female driver, I don't think she's exactly Jamie Chadwick levels of good ๐])

Ava Max - Million Dollar Baby
Add me to the list of people terrified to listen to this based on the (relative) panning it got here! (this was before I scrolled to page 3...) It's really good! Not her best single, or even close... Maybe You're the Problem was AMAZING, but was clearly gonna be one for the gays only (still surprised it never got playlisting/radio 1 though...), this one seems more accessible in a Kings & Queens/My Head & My Heart way; it won't do as well as those, but I can see Top 75 at least! On the subject of bringing Ava bops constantly... I am FULLY HERE FOR IT. No-one seems committed to out and out pop, and Ava is smashing it, probably the only charting artist I actively seek out new music from, as I'm almost certain it's gonna be a great pop banger. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Ava Max - Maybe You're The Problem
I've not met a single person that dislikes this song (in fact everyone I've spoken to, that's heard it, [i keep bringing up the "tampon" line] has said they like it...). The problem with Ava, is she has no identity - people aren't interested in her as an artist. Do people really link Sweet But Psycho/Kings & Queens/My Head & My Heart/this as the same artist? Probably not... She brings the fun faceless bops, unfortunately in the streaming era, that is the type of music arguably most reliant on streaming support. I don't think her label are ignorant to that either. They know she's not a fanbase artist (one CD/one vinyl (maybe 2?)/and one cassette). I still stand by it not being too late for this, R2 support and AM playlisting were both completely out of sync with R1 and Spotify with prior singles. It worked for those (in fact, the initial R2/AM push has done *more* for this), so surely it's when - not if - the Spotify support arrives, at this point? Either that, or the label really are shooting themselves in the foot... ๐คฃ

Queen's Greatest Hits 1st album to top 7 million UK sales
This is the most sensible assessment of how album streams should be counted I've seen (I'm still pro there being a cap), if you take the lowest streamed song on the standard edition of an album as being the number of streams the album has accrued, that could signify the popularity of the album - maybe exclude obvious interludes/intros from this (tracks under 1m?). The album chart should be made up of genuine sales and streams of the album as a complete body (in the best possible way). Greatest Hits will always do better (always have done, due more familiar songs, doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that out), but the current model the OCC use was evidently designed for studio albums, not compilations which may have a far higher number of songs that rack up streams repeatedly. Any streams of individual tracks (particularly where greatest hits are concerned) are already covered in the singles chart... GH albums are the biggest culprits for duplicate counting.

All Stars 7 // Episode 9
Assuming Top 4 of the week are the ones that are singled out during the judges deliberation... I have zero clue how Shea was included. Hers was completely generic/forgettable... One of the least likely to become a trend imo. I just can't warm to her, this week came across as cold as every other week...
-
All Stars 7 // Episode 9
Wow, Viv was overlooked this week (assuming the focused queen's in the deliberation part are the Top 4... up until then, I had Viv and Jinkx as a lock in for Top 2)... Genuinely found Viv laugh out loud hilarious! Probably for the other thread, but I have a *clear* Top 4 (and, more precisely, Top 2) and Bottom 4 at this point...

Mabel - About Last Night...
Facebook thinks I'm obsessed with Mabel... Nearly all of my targeted ads are this album! Tbf, Let Them Know is a BANGER. And I'm weirdly obsessed with how gorgeous the actual cassettes look (this is probably why they keep coming up...), but everything else I've heard is only decent, if non-descript. I'm in no rush to buy it (even if the pink and neon green cassettes look AMAZING ๐๐)

Adele - 30
Oh, there's definitely a couple of typos in what I wrote... (assuming this is in response to my post, as I'm the only one to post in her since you did last). Also, is there any need to say this in such a ridiculously condescending way? ๐ People *are allowed* an opinion... To clarify: I would love to see Can I Get It become a single. It's easily my favourite on the album. It's the most obvious single choice behind Easy On Me and Oh My God...
-
Adele - 30
The reviews for the show are phenomenal (the show was fantastic, to be fair). I think Can I Get It would be a reasonably sized hit (if it had a playlist push), but I think she's fine with singles on this one, and everything wise that would work has already had its time...

How Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill became a No.1 contender
As this is in response to my posts on the other thread, I'm intrigued at why you have concluded that they wouldn't have the data to apply a cap? The OCC already apply a daily streaming cap, surely all that will happen, is the data gets dumped in a database, and only the first x amount of plays for a particular user are counted (I obviously don't know this, but would the streaming companies really be sifting through this data for OCC?). It's good to have confirmation that the data doesn't currently include the source of play (i.e. playlist/album/user search), because that could be helpful - although it could arguably exclude lots of people, who are not familiar with the rules, from their listening contributing towards the chart... Just because someone plays a playlist (which they may or may not have selected based on the songs included), why should their streams be valued less than others?
-
Were OCC right to reset 'Running Up That Hill'?
Guess this is exposing my relevance to what's popular. I still can't recall anyone aside from people on here (or similar) and one friend (whose listening habits are so far removed from literally everyone I know in real life...) using last.fm - and he tends to choose what he feels like listening to alot more, and so many of his favourites songs were in wayyyyy over 10 plays. Most people I know (of a wide variety of ages) do just shove on a playlist. If my pool is a sample representative of the general population, it's difficult for me to see how the songs hitting the Top 10 wouldn't rack up 10 plays per person within a month or so. You'd get your lower positioned songs racking up plays slower, and you'd get songs on more low-key playlists also building up 'sales' at a lower rate. As I say, I don't have the data, this is purely based on what I've seen. And it's the only way I can think of that would (potentially) keep the chart fresh in an organic way: Official Chart (or sales chart, or whatever you want to call it) - Sales and Lifetime Stream Cap Streaming Chart - Total Plays (capped at 10 per day if they must) (either way, it's never gonna happen) I just can't stand ACR. I'm prefer change more than anyone I know, as things can always be improved... I'm just REALLY not a fan of a chart that's supposed to be representing something, not really representing anything.
-
Were OCC right to reset 'Running Up That Hill'?
Which is exactly what I'm saying. If people are genuinely newly discovering the song, and enjoying it, it should stay. If it's streams are coming from repeat plays, those should be disregarded (if the goal is to keep the chart as fresh as possible and to give each new song its fair chance at charting). There will be a few songs that persist, but the majority will see natural declines and we won't see as many farcical drops - those that have these will be largely fanbase or campaign driven songs (as has always been the case).
-
Were OCC right to reset 'Running Up That Hill'?
I mean, there's no perfect solution (as I'm sure most people would agree). What I'm really saying is it depends what OCC want the charts to represent. Recording listening habits is entirely different to someone parting with their hard earned cash to buy a song. If someone wants to buy 5000 downloads of the same song, then so be it, they OCC could even put caps on that. Same goes for albums: if people are willing to spend ยฃ100 on variants for their favourite artist, let them - OCC can always decide how many formats are eligible if they wanted to. If they wanted to get around multiple accounts (which I very much doubt the vast majority of people would give 2 shits about), they could monitor with IP addresses, if they're given that info. Chart fans and the occasional rabid fan base are the only ones who really care where there faves chart. Obviously I haven't researched, but all the people I know of that have a last.fm account are those who will actively seek out new music. I don't think that's representative of the wider public who I honestly believe are far more inclined to shove a playlist on and listen to whatever's on it (maybe skipping songs they don't like). Through that kind of passive listening, you're almost certain to be fed the same songs over and over and over again.

Were OCC right to reset 'Running Up That Hill'?
I chose "They should stick to the rules and not have reset it", though I do think it should have been #1, and like others (who chose either option) I think the rules are flawed and need to be changed. I feel by making an exception, the (already) artificial chart is even more meaningless... I don't think exceptions should be granted. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... ACR is a crap solution. The out of chart for 3 years rule would probably make the best of ACR, but if they really want to keep the charts fresh, all that needs to be done is create a (relatively low) all time cap per person. People know if they like a song after 10 plays, put that as the limit. One stream = 1/10 sales. Any more are not counted. If a song blows up in 10 years time and people discover it through that, they will be contributing, the people that already spent their streams won't. If they really want to cater to genuine reissues, they could always have a reset criteria that *needs* to be met (i.e. x number of newly televised performances/TV or radio tour with a newly issued physical release /requesting an actively promoted remix is counted separately etc)

Least favourite member?
Went for Faye ๐ณ๐ Was torn between her and Lee... They're the ones that are preventing them from wanting to do Eurovision, apparently (and they would clearly release a smash!)... Lee edges her... Cus hot. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Otherwise, I haven't got anything bad to say about any of them! If I had to rank... Claire (THE. VOICE.) Indy 500 2022
R2XoWbxiCD8 I've always felt like Ericsson was a better driver than he was given credit for in F1! Obviously not world champion material, but seemed solid (especially towards the end). Well deserved Indy 500 win, and was nowhere near Grosjean, so couldn't be blamed for that. ๐

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
Haven't seen the film yet... But it does have the benefit of familiarity in the first film, so could be emoting nostalgia with its use in the new one? Plus... It's amazing!

N-Dubz - Charmer
Genuinely thought academies would be about right for them... Was definitely in the "Arenas?! That's ambitious..." camp before. It's odd, especially as I can't remember them being a massive live arena act in their original stint! I guess a lot of what's big at the moment owes quite a bit to artists like them and other Channel U style artists of the time, so it really shouldn't be that surprising that there's more cross generational support for them than your general reforming girl/boyband!

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
The R1 push will come at the same point (I'm 99% sure). This also follows the pattern of support/limited support that seems to have happened since Torn. Torn - R2 support only Kings & Queens - R2/Apple then belated R1/Spotify Who's Laughing Now - R2 support My Head & My Heart - R2/Apple then belated R1/Spotify Everytime I Cry - R2 support (I think?) Maybe You're the Problem - R2/Apple... Could be wrong... But will be a surprise!

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
Going by previous Ava releases (which this seems to be using precisely the same strategy): its just been added to R2 - that will have no effect - and is being sorta pushed on Apple (is in their hot songs, and was pretty high last week)... So I wouldn't worry, we can expect the Spotify push in sometime in 2023... ๐

I wanted this to qualify SO BADLY. I really love it, and big pop-girl anthems were sorely missed in the final this year (which was, of course, not a problem for Spain!)

GRAND FINAL ยท Eurovision Song Contest 2022
Genuinely can't wait to be able to come back at people with this result when people (inevitably) start spouting out this bullshit next year! People forget Jade and Blue's results... Apparently we're usually supposed to be given everyone's 12s each year for sending a song that's "quite nice" and doesn't even get placed in their own top 10... This year I've heard lots of people say "I love that song!" before they knew it was out Eurovision entry... Shock horror, we send songs people would actually choose to listen to, and we do well! (Though, it's pretty ironic that the one time we're blocked from winning, is the one time I agree there was political voting playing a notable part... ๐)
