I saw a very early Oasis gig at the Hammersmith Odean at the time of the release of the Shaker'maker single. It was a wall of noise, and I was just so impressed by the animal magneticism and sheer swagger the band had then (especially Liam), as they knew they were going to be huge and had the Beatles back catalogue with a bit of the Rolling Stones; The Who; The Kinks; Slade & T-Rex thrown in tunes to prove it. I'm actually glad I never saw them in the flesh again to blow it; before the celebrity girlfriends; Cocaine & fame and wealth eroded their latent talent. Era wise I would have loved to have been around to see the new wave/new romantic movement (1978/1982); and I would have loved to have seen The Smiths.

Agreed. He might just win the Tom Daley award for that. The best side won, but that disgusting behaviour has taken the shine off a very impressive Spanish performance.

England bigger than Germany  I'm afraid you've fallen for the little Englander tabloid media hype. Next you'll be telling me that the Premiership is the biggest & best league in the world. Anyway today's matches saw my Work & Pub random Sweepstake country (in both) Paraguay still alive after a borefest against Japan; and again no goals at half time between Portugal & Spain. A much better match, but Fernando Torres is doing his best Wayne Rooney impersonation = his movement is a bit sluggish, he is shockingly out of form and he looks like he does not want to be there. Maybe, he has already had a phone call from Roy Hodgson to fill him with confidence for the next season ... not. Portugal's defence reminds me of a crowded parked bus = difficult to get through.
  6. Right then, as we have hit the halfway point of the year I have now done a revised Year End Chart deducting the 4 worst results for those who have played all the Games this year (+ 3 lowest if missed 1 Game; 2 lowest if missed 2 Games; 1 lowest if missed 3 Games; none deducted if missed 4 or more Games). This impacts on the Top 26: Year End Results After Week 26: Ranking / Player / Original Score / Deduction / Year End Score 1st spiidey 3442 421 3021 2nd thisispop 3335 395 2940 3rd Ben 3176 250 2926 4th Jester 3042 268 2774 5th West 2948 200 2748 6th Aaron 2985 248 2737 7th JakeyShake 2932 225 2707 8th FM11 3021 329 2692 9th ElectroBoy 2839 163 2676 10th eightiespopkid 2957 316 2641 11th madonna-4-eva 2899 295 2604 11th Bray 2846 242 2604 13th Theo 2804 203 2601 14th TomKay 2934 349 2585 15th jackph89 2631 69 2562 16th soundseekerz 2626 67 2559 17th Hitstastic 2569 73 2496 18th Gboy 2481 0 2481 19th Mikey 2727 271 2456 20th mark w 2728 288 2440 21st TactiX 2407 53 2354 22nd zero 2409 65 2344 23rd chart wizard 2282 0 2282 24th Nick F1 2393 128 2265 25th the-equalizer 2256 0 2256 26th paulgilb 2516 297 2219
  7. Yes, but as Prince wrote, produced and performed all his own material from his halycon days in the 1980s to early 1990s he has picked up millions in royalties so does not need the cash quite as much as other artists. Plus with his status as one of the greatest live acts and biggest concert draws of all time he can guarantee making a lot more money from touring; then add his legendary anti-piracy stance where he does not like his songs uploaded onto the likes of youtube; then why not instead make the music available via exclusive newspaper deals. Makes mental note to buy the Daily Mirror Saturday week.

Absolutely nothing in this World Cup has convinced me that my pre tournament thoughts that Brazil will win the World Cup will be wrong. Tonight's match was a masterclass in efficiency, and unlike Spain (with unfit key players) & Germany & Argentina (suspect defences), Brazil are near full strength even though watching this match tonight I did not feel they needed to go beyond second gear.

How fukkin' dare you spread this vicious and blatant lie. If you google your statement the only thing that comes up is some moron on DigitalSpy called Crazy Chris posting a thread about this blatant lie. I watched the match at the time and heard nothing of the sort except for those bloody Vuvuzela's when the German anthem was played. Indeed if you read match reports in the Guardian & the Telegraph they both complimented the English contingent for not doing what they regularly do when they play at Wembley to the opposition's anthems. As for what FIFA actually said: England fans 'a credit to their country' in South Africa, FIFA say Monday, 28 June 2010 12:30 UK BBC News FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke has praised England fans for their good behaviour during the World Cup, with only one football-related arrest. Pavlos Joseph, 32, from London, is accused of entering England's dressing room after the Algeria match. FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke said that the travelling fans had "done their country proud". Especially the manner and humour in the aftermath of their defeat to Germany on Sunday. "With the outcome of the result, we fully expect a large amount of tension from frustrated England fans, but under the circumstances of a very disappointing result for them they behaved with dignity and a good sense of self depreciating British humour sharing drinks with the victorious German supporters resulting in no arrests before, during or in the following 12 hours of the match in Bloemfontein on Sunday." Assistant Chief Constable Mr Holt, who is leading a team of 12 UK officers in South Africa, said he had never experienced a more friendly atmosphere and to have only one arrest at this stage of the competition was "unusual". He said a "combination of factors" had had an impact, including 3,000 football banning orders. But he said the type of fans who had travelled, who were generally older and had come with families, was a big factor. "It's a long way to come. People have spent a lot of money. The fans that are here are the genuine article. They have saved and worked hard to get here. "I think it's credit to the England supporters who have come out here determined to have a good time. But it's also credit to our South African colleagues who have done everything they possible can to make people feel welcome," he said. It is a view shared by Mark Perryman, a spokesman for England fans, who said the reception fans had received in South Africa had been "extraordinary". "When we got off the plane, people were dancing, it was spontaneous, and from that moment on, everywhere we've been - from townships to the host cities - people have been really friendly. "It's been informal and relaxed, with music playing. There's a very visible police presence too, but I haven't seen any incidents where they've been needed," he said. Mr Holt said it was very different circumstances in Germany four years ago. Then, 828 out of the 8,935 fans that were detained or arrested were English, according to the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo). "[Germany] was closer to home, so it was easier for people to come out on a whim, perhaps without tickets, just to take part in the atmosphere around the competition. "And therefore you saw significantly more arrests and significantly more disorder," Mr Holt said. FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke said that the travelling fans had "done much to repair the historic reputation of English supporters throughout the world", adding "they have probably been greater ambassadors for their country in South Africa than their national football team".

I strongly agree on this point. To have the new points system in place for a Final of up to 30 songs (because the Semi's have eliminated 10/20 songs) will result in too much extrapolation of the scores for those that reach the Final which will deter experimentation which the last two contests have benefited from IMHO.

My technique is very similar. I also split my first listens into three blocks and gave the songs scores out of 10 (to 0.5 decimal points) recording them on excel with a brief description about the track; then on the second listen I only listened to the 26 songs that scored 6.0 or higher and rejigged my points; then on the third and final listen I shuffled by position rankings across the (I did not discover any 10.0 songs in this contest) 9.5; 9.0; 8.5; 8.0; 7.5 songs accordingly.
  13. What do you mean worse than usual in the bonus round? I always do poorly in the bonus rounds compared to the normal rounds.
  14. Lastly ...... The Top 10 Finishes Game 2010 only this year it is based on Points score per Top 10 finish each week (1st = 10 Pts; 2nd = 9 Pts ..... down to 10th = 1 Pt; but all ties count as the same points as position finished so no shared points (i.e. Two players tie for 3rd place one week each score 8 Points) After 26 Weeks: 1 1 spiidey 173 2 3 Ben 125 3 2 thisispop 119 4 4 Jester 72 5 6 Aaron 71 6 5 JakeyShake 63 7 6 AdzBrown 61 8 8 West 59 9 9 FM11 58 10 10 titty 52 10 10 ElectroBoy 52 10 10 BrayFish 52 13 13 jackph89 51 14 17 soundseekerz 47 15 14 TomKay 44 15 16 Theo 44 17 15 eightiespopkid 42 18 18 mark w 26 19 19 Hitstastic 24 19 19 zero 24 21 21 madonna-4-eva 22 22 22 Gboy 20 23 28 WillR0173 18 24 23 mancdude 17 25 24 Mikey 15 26 25 Come Along 14 26 25 Nick F1 14 28 27 Kay 13 29 28 paulgilb 12 29 28 Tacticz 12 31 31 the-equalizer 11 32 32 NoiseAddict 10 32 32 Gleek! 10 34 38 Pavel 8 35 34 superbossanova 7 36 35 basdfg 6 37 36 chart wizard 4 37 40 gagafan 4 39 37 Ditherless 3 40 38 Shoat 2 Significant developments: Spiidey lead increases to 48 points; Ben climbs 1 to 2nd; & Aaron climbs 1 to 5th. Thanks all for playing in this week, I'll see you next week but not much is happening other than England football songs plummeting like a stone, but there should be new entries in the Top 40 from Enrique Iglesias; Skepta & Plan B. Whilst hopefully this track will reach the lower reaches of the Top 75:

But those sports are not as big therefore they are more interested in fair play and doing the right thing.
