  1. Padam flopping!

    +5 Miracle

    +4 Sprinter

+3 Good Love (a pretty good song swap this time, can bop to this)

+2 Calm Down (-plays tiny violin for this song's final top 10 week... for now-)

    +1 As It Was

    -1 Who Told You

    -2 Padam Padam

    -3 Giving Me

    -4 Dancing Is Healing

    -5 REACT

  2. The main problem I see is that, for example, Miracle is listed as “Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding”, and they have their own artist page as if they are specific act. Does this mean that they are each not credited with Miracle as a #1 in their own right if you go to their individual pages?

That was already the case on the old site - in this case the song is listed on both Calvin and Ellie's individual pages as well, but they're pretty inconsistent with remembering to add collaborations to all of the relevant pages (or, more likely, their automated system for doing that doesn't always work). I'm guessing they've just imported the same data set to the new site and it's mostly just an aesthetic overhaul so the artist pages probably still have the same errors as they did before.

I think this redesign might actually be a net positive which feels like a rarity with any kind of site redesigns tbh, I quite like the new look and it seems they've added a few pretty decent new features, well done OCC x (although will see if I notice anything annoying about it in the coming weeks).

  3. There would have been so many K-Pop #1 albums this year if Morgan didn't keep blocking them!

This might be Morgan's last week for a while with a string of big releases coming up (Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Taylor Swift) but have to imagine it'll stay as the 'default' #1 on quieter weeks for a while yet -_-

edit: nevermind, looks like he's going to beat Young Thug as his projection has been lowered oop

  4. 'Cruel Summer' now up to #5 on Spotify!

(And the Lewis songs are still climbing on Spotify too - 'Someone You Loved' #11, 'Wish You The Best' #15, 'Forget Me' #33. Maybe a not-touring effect )

Elton dropping quite a bit unsurprisingly but still has 3 songs in the 60s and 2 more top 200 (+ Stephen Sanchez at #71 & #98).

  5. My ratings from last week:

    1 '0800 HEAVEN' 7.5/10

    2 'Who Told You' 7/10

    3 'VULGAR' 6.9/10 7/10

    4 'Dial Drunk' 6/10

    5 'Everybody Knows' 5.5/10

    6 'Take Two' 4/10

Was very close to null voting for the first time but I do think '0800 HEAVEN' is just about good enough to have got my vote even if it is a bit baby's first trance song (and I actually liked it slightly less the second time I heard it which already doesn't speak highly of its staying power for me ddd, still much better than the usual from Dawe and Corry). There wasn't anything offensively awful though, the BTS song is just quite competently boring (I feel like putting this out will slightly undermine the impact when they make their proper comeback after all the military stuff but hey). Fredo's is far from his finest work, just sounded like a slightly less good attempt to go for the same throwback vibe as 'Us Against The World', also had some pretty jarring lyrics but the instrumental and the hook were decent enough to give it a passing score. I heard a clip of 'Dial Drunk' the other day and thought I was going to hate it based on that but I think that clip was just capturing a snippet of his voice sounding unusually annoying, it is fine for most of the song, sounds like a Mumford & Sons album track, it's fine. 'VULGAR' is a bit cringe but at least seems like self-aware cringe, I couldn't help but respect it (minus a few particularly OTT lyrics) and the instrumental is actually great at times. The hook of 'Who Told You' has been a massive earworm for a couple of weeks for me now but the rest of the song isn't interesting enough to make it vote worthy (and the Drake feature, while still not as bad as some people made it out to be... on second listen yeah it's not amazing).

  6. Posted

Thanks to the 46 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

    Official results from week 24:

    [ 25 ] Nathan Dawe, Joel Corry and Ella Henderson - 0800 HEAVEN (#23)

    [ 16 ] Sam Smith and Madonna - VULGAR (#69)

    [ 11 ] Noah Kahan - Dial Drunk (#45)

    [ 10 ] J Hus - Who Told You (feat. Drake) (#2)

    [ 7 ] Fredo - Everybody Knows (#76)

    [ 3 ] BTS - Take Two (#59)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 24 and auto-qualifying for the June monthly round is Nathan Dawe, Joel Corry and Ella Henderson - 0800 HEAVEN.

On a rather quiet week, it's a pretty easy win for British DJs Nathan Dawe and Joel Corry (assisted by fellow British singer and rent-a-dance-vocalist Ella Henderson) who saw Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding get a big hit with a trance banger with a vaguely religious title and thought 'hey we can do that too'. It follows in the footsteps of 'Miracle' with a poll win here but hasn't quite reached the same chart heights just yet with a debut a bit short of the top 20, though it's well on its way to being at least a top 10 hit in the coming weeks. It won the support of just over half of voters and was 9 votes clear of second place - which is a collaboration with Madonna for a second week in a row, the legend this time assisting Sam Smith on a song that we all hope never gets higher than #69 as that's just too perfect.

The last few votes helped two of the other four contenders also cross the double figure mark, with folk pop artist and chart debutant Noah Kahan landing in third place, one vote ahead of J Hus' Drake collab which proved a much bigger commercial hit for him than 'It's Crazy' but actually does slightly worse in this poll (that got 11 votes). The recent fairly good results for UK rap songs continue as Fredo manages to clear the 5 vote mark, with the only song falling short of that mark this week being BTS' throwaway track put out to mark their 10th anniversary as a group. Way to celebrate!

Let's pretend I've not posted this a couple of days late again  9 songs on offer this week, including a strong quota of rap fodder from both sides of the pond but at least 2 or 3 songs that I presume should get a decent number of votes. The playlist has 10 tracks as the Doechii song has 2 versions (I think the one featuring Kodak was actually the original of the song with the solo version coming out later) and I have to assume both are doing decent numbers and have no way of knowing which one is doing better as neither of them have actually charted on any platform in their own right as far as I know. Based on Doechii's Spotify profile it looks like the solo version is probably more popular right now. In any case, feel free to vote based on either version as ever. With the extra Doechii version included it totals to 31 minutes and 44 seconds this week.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening to vote :jump: (I'll stick with this as the deadline and try and be on time again next week x)

  7. I've taken a bit of a hiatus from this thread but I'm back playing PopMaster again this week, will try and keep up again x

    Yesterday:

    Round 1: 21 (missed

    Culture Club (-3), 'She's Not There' (-3), 'I Can Make You Feel Good' (-3), 1971 (-3), Status Quo (-6)

    )

    Round 2: 12 (missed

'Gonna Make You A Star' (-3), Curiosity Killed The Cat (-3), Lonnie Donegan (-6), The Vagabonds (-3), 'Sgt Rock' (-3), King (-6), 1999 (-3)

    )

    3 in 10: 1/3 (

    'Addicted To Love'

) - I feel like I remember this being the artist for one of the Radio 2 ones I played and I did the same thing oop xx

I knew I recognised Lonnie Donegan's voice but didn't connect the dots in time oop!

2 years late on both year questions.

    Today:

    Round 1: 24 (missed

Vince Clarke (-3), Fun Lovin' Criminals (-6), 1981 (-3), 'Bad Moon Rising' (-3)

    )

    Round 2: 24 (missed

ABC (-3), 'Laughter In The Rain' (-3), 'Delicate' (-3), Wings (-3), 'Itchycoo Park' (-3)

    )

    3 in 10: 2/3 (

'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Hysteria'

) - second one was a lucky guess at an album title track, but had no idea beyond that - they did have another song from the #1 albums sessions but could not recall it without looking it up

3 years late for the first year. Feel like I could have got 33 there,

I knew Vince Clarke and 'Bad Moon Rising' but couldn't recall in time, only Fun Lovin' Criminals that I had no clue on - and it's only after reading Jade's post that I realise that wasn't the 'She Drives Me Crazy' band lmaooo

    ).

Nice clean sweep of the bonus questions on round 2,

Jason Donovan was a complete guess which doesn't pay off for me too often but yay

. And got the final question due to

Jade sending The Creatures to a BJSC spinoff

    .

been doing TTTT and usually getting one or 2 wrong, sadly not heard Popmaster in ages - cant be arsed to sign up and get yet more pages of email adverts and targeted suggestions about funeral plans. I just want to listen to it on old-fashioned radio!! switch on switch off :teresa:

I haven't needed to sign up for anything to play PopMaster! The episodes are freely available here:

  8. This is only its 8th day in the top 200 since Kworb has been tracking (and it hasn't ever made the weekly chart which is tracked further back to 2013).

Arctic Monkeys have had a ton of songs in the chart for a while already due to their tour so it barely makes sense to compare to Elton whose boost is from Glastonbury alone - great to see him getting 2 classics into the top 40 and 'Cold Heart' re-entering too, yet another reset coming there perhaps (and who knows if the label might make the case to get resets for the other 2 songs as well).

A pretty nice streaming showing for Stephen Sanchez too (and happy to see the solo version getting the bigger boost, I don't think Em Beihold ruins it or anything but I do slightly prefer the original), should 100% get the reset and maybe be in the running for a new peak this week?

Stormzy continuing to rise on Apple and recovering slightly on Spotify today, not to be written off just yet...

'fukumean' now comfortably surpassing the UK Spotify peak of 'pushin P' (after matching it at #26 yesterday). Wondering if it might have some autoplay kicking in today but it's been pretty consistently rising since its release anyway.

  9. Whoops, completely forgot about that Sharon Doorson version of Touch Me There that was sent to Reinvention! :o

    I did last year

by another Dutch female DJ, Kim Kaey, which was in my end of year top 10, but never did get round to sending it in the end, so figured I'd just send the original to this as it's a 90s piano house banger. But maybe I wouldn't have been allowed it in BJSC anyway as it was a cover of a spin-off entry!

I think it would have slipped through the net - it took me a while to find the other version of it that had been sent to another contest after hearing the Total Touch version on SyncTube, recognised the song but completely forgot who did the cover and the title is a bit generic to search for haha.

  10. Well congrats Addy, can't really argue with another very convincing win there!

I've given the song another listen to try and see what I was missing with it and it still sounds quite boring to me oops (and I hadn't heard it before despite multiple people calling it a well known classic x) but don't let my contrarianism get you down  at least I did like your previous winner

Even if it didn't end up being the winner (or particularly close), it is great to see Jester getting a much better result this time, I remember him saying he might stop entering these after his previous result so very happy he did stick around after all. A gorgeous song as Portishead are known to churn out.

2nd and 3rd in the end matched 2nd and 3rd in my own votes! Also happy to see The Grid in the top 5 + Saâda Bonaire and Siouxsie And The Banshees top 10 (Saâda Bonaire in particular having a really nice result for a more obscure entry (edit: especially if they win the tiebreak to be top 5, didn't notice that was a tie)). All About Eve deserved a lot better but I did notice I was more enthusiastic about that than most people on SyncTube so I'm just out of the loop in general this month it seems :D

Yay for me going up in the world from bottom 3 to bottom 5  maybe one day I'll send something a bit less leftfield to one of these but I'll take that + my best scoring entry to date for now.

Thanks for hosting Addy, and I guess maybe looking forward to you hosting again in a few months :magic:

  11. Dobbo joining me in sending a song that was mostly instrumental and just had incidental female vocals :D but that was another tune, rather different to the other song I know from The Grid.

Thanks Yobnedor, surprised at you voting for this one but those are the 3 points I needed for this to be my highest scoring entry in one of these to date, hooray!
