so I know this forum loves a good ongoing poll series from time to time, I've come up with this idea for one over the weekend and thought I'd give it a go ~
Basic concept is that it'll be a weekly poll of all the new entries to the UK top 100 singles* and you the people of the fine BuzzJack public simply vote for your favourites. It's a multiple choice poll so vote for as many or as few as you want, much like WhoOdyssey's old series of Track of the Week polls (RIP). Depending on if I maintain the motivation to keep these polls going and how much interest they generate I want to collate the weekly results to post additional threads ranking each month and then the whole year (obviously whittling down the songs a bit at each stage so it won't involve ranking hundreds of songs, I am thinking maybe a top 10 of each month and top 40 of the year). I'll detail this further in post 2 for anyone interested x Ideally would be good if you can make sure you have heard all of the songs before voting to get the most representative results - and because discovering new music is fun - but if you just want to vote for your existing faves then fair enough. I plan to post a ranking of all the songs each week, if anyone else wants to join me in that that would be neat as I'd love to see Here's a Spotify playlist (I'll probably just use the same one and change the songs every week, but for this first week it's 10 songs totalling just under half an hour - gotta love people's short attention spans meaning zero songs topping 3 and a half minutes): I'll leave this open for a week, will try and get one of these up every Monday evening *based on the OCC's actual rules, leave any opinions of what should or shouldn't be there in a hypothetical chart with different rules at the door please. Also this will include old songs that have never charted before e.g. Miguel's one this week |

My plan is to collate a top 10 of each month which will consist of:
- the #1 most voted for song from each week (4 or 5 songs depending on how many Fridays are in the month) - the best performing other songs throughout the month based on percentage of voters who voted for them (5 or 6 songs) Then will ask people to rank those 10 songs for the month with the Eurovision voting system (12/10/8-1). If I don't give up on these polls at some point and they get a decent amount of engagement (the former may be caused by the failure of the latter, or it may just happen anyway due to me being unreliable) and we make it all the way to the end of the year, I then want to make a round for the whole year with a top 40 consisting of: - the top 3 from each monthly round - 4 additional 'wildcards' (perhaps just the 4 best performing songs that didn't make the top 3 of their round, or could do some kind of snap poll, not decided yet and it's a year away x) Then would most likely run a final voting thread where people vote for their top 15 using the 18 points voting system (18/15/13-1). Or perhaps I could enforce people to rank all of the songs like in the worst #1 polls (hopefully a higher general quality of songs here). Maybe it'll depend on how many less well-known songs end up getting through. Does that sound good to people? Feel free to suggest any tweaks I'm aware this won't create a perfect top 40 of the year since some months will have more big BuzzJack favourites than others but I quite like the idea of having each month of the year (almost) equally represented. ~ Now I've typed this all up let's hope this thread doesn't immediately bomb and only get like 3 votes I haven't actually heard all of these songs myself yet so I'm not gonna vote straight away, gives me a good excuse to bump the thread when I have listened to them some time in the coming days x |

Ooh this will be useful to keep up to date with new music!
I will vote once I've listened to all the tracks as I only know ~half of them currently. |

Ooh great idea I am familiar with all of these and chucked a vote to the only one that has made my chart so far - the idiosyncratic but beautiful 'snowfall'

Great idea for a poll - I've voted for Øneheart and reidenshi despite not hearing the others as I know there's no way that anything better than that is going to chart this week, month or probably even year. But will check out the others for completeness this week.

Wow was not expecting as many as 21 votes in this already haha. Glad there is a good amount of interest! I've been listening to the top 100 entries each week for a few years now (albeit being a few weeks behind for much of last year whoops but I've caught up again now ) so thought this may be a good way to get at least a couple of others to join me in that and even if not just thought it'd be a neat idea regardless ~

Ranking!
1) Metro Boomin & Future - Too Many Nights (feat. Don Toliver) | The production is Impeccable and Don blesses us with a chorus that is on point, Great verse from future too. Decent 8/10 2) Sub Focus & Dimension - Ready To Fly | I'll always welcome a Sub Focus return to the chart, utter banger. The vocal production is pretty good and as always the drop is nuts. Light 8/10 3) Taylor Swift - You're On Your Own Kid | Kind of a throwback to "Red" era Taylor while looking at the roots of the song. One of my favourites off of Midnights. Strong 7/10 4) Coi Leray - Players | i'm totally here for a big Coi breakthrough in the UK. Good use of the sample, her flow fits it well. Strong 7/10 5) OneHeart & Rehidenshi - Snowfall | Great beat, rather relaxing, there's not much more i can say about it. Decent 7/10 6) Libianca - People | 2022 may have been the year of afrobeats, but 2023 has to be the year of an afrobeats #1! This is good, slick production, good vocal performance. Decent 7/10 7) Taylor Swift - Bejeweled - Interesting song, not bad but not great. Really a change of prod from Jack, i'm just not sure if the track suits Taylor very well. Light 6/10 8) Interworld - METAMORPHOSIS | Nice instrumentation but the track is too long to stay the same, it get boring very quickly. Light 5/10 9) Miguel - Sure Thing | Honestly, why was this a single in 2010? The production is poor, the lyrics are terrible and his vocals sound like they were recorded on a laptop microphone. Strong 3/10 10) Jengi - Bel Mercy | An awful recreation of a great reggae track, i'm disgusted that Jengi has the audacity to sample it. Light 2/10 |

Good idea to keep updated with the latest hits and potential future top 40s!
Voted Sub Focus, Coi Lerai & Onefall. What does the Bel Mercy track sample? |

Super Beagle's "Dust a Sound Boy".
the song was previously sampled on Kanye West “Mercy” in 2012 which is where the song title comes from. |

Decided to listen through the playlist a few times and have ranked them:
1. Taylor Swift - Bejeweled (#63) 2. Miguel - Sure Thing (#83) 3. Taylor Swift - You're On Your Own, Kid (#65) 4. Libianca - People (#92) 5. Metro Boomin and Future - Too Many Nights (feat. Don Toliver) (#88) 6. Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly (#52) 7. Øneheart and reidenshi - snowfall (#71) 8. Jengi - Bel Mercy (#93) 9. Coi Leray - Players (#68) 10. INTERWORLD - METAMORPHOSIS (#77) I was going to vote for my top 3 each week but that's too tough because I really want to show support for 'People' too - what a beauty So this week, it's my top 4 |

Good idea this, Bre. I listen to so few songs that actually chart so will try and keep up with it, the two Taylor tracks were the only ones I'd listened to previously. I gave the playlist a listen this afternoon, these were my rankings and voted for my top 3, will give at least the top 5 more listens.
1. Taylor - Bejeweled - one of the better songs on Midnights 2. Coi Leray - I enjoyed this but a bit short 3. Interworld - this was good, however felt it was going to offer more than it did 4. Sub Focus/Dimension - good enough but both have better 5. Libianca - a nice song, decent voice 6. Taylor - You're... - not one from the album I'm likely to go back to much 7. Miguel - boring 8. oneheart - this isn't something I was expecting to listen to, pleasant enough but wouldn't ever listen out of choice 9. Metro Boomin - poor, though better than that dross in the top 10 with the Weeknd 10. Jengi - really annoying |
