I was under the impression 'sped up nightcore' was just a random third party YouTube channel! (Although that ISRC code does look legit so I think you're right, but weird that the label name isn't actually listed if so)
edit: also the releases on the 'sped up nightcore' "artist" page are super weird. Very inconsistent formatting and several of them do not credit the original artists on them at all. Interestingly that includes a version of 'Bloody Mary' - so if that actually is an official release, it not crediting Lady Gaga may well have cost the song a higher peak!

Can't tell if that Lil Uzi Vert remix is actually an official release or not - they're taking a while to get it taken down and/or get an official version out if not but it does look a bit unauthorised (no label listed on the upload). It's all the way up to #14 on US Spotify!
In any case it appears to be a remix of an unreleased snippet/leak from a few years ago. Curious.
Hooray for PinkPantheress' top version dethroning Miley now *.* and wow Lizzy just keeps on going, hopefully another future top 10 contender.

Worth noting however, that 'Bad' was anything but a minor hit, despite a #22 peak it was a bigger hit than 'Booyah', in terms of streaming and longevity! Of course it helped a lot that David Guetta got the lead billing for that.
I barely remember 'Bad' but pretty sure it was nowhere even close to as good as 'Booyah' so at least the higher peak is deserved x (their third hit I had to look up and truly have no memory of at all)
Disappointing to see that out so early as it's definitely one of the most standout dance hits of recent years (actually maybe getting a bit too old now to call it 'recent' oops). Also lost 'Finesse' from my votes already but not too sad to see that one go, it was the inferior Bruno song here anyway, hopefully '24K Magic' can do a bit better. 'Heathens' was quite close to my votes too, not overly keen / familiar with any of the others.

I think Abeltesfayeton and Neliönoir both have a decent chance of qualifying at least (though admittedly not completely confident in either of those), would be quite an oof if all 6 DNQed.
And officially RIP my Q streak as Dan has cursed me now :cheeseblock:
(also pls surely there's no way Pagasa are DNQing!!)

Can we have some less encyclopaedic people playing this please so I don't keep embarrassing myself posting low to middling scores on days when everyone else is effortlessly getting 30+! :snif: (congrats all in all seriousness tho :kink:)
Round 1: 15 (missed
Rick Astley (-6), 1988 (-3), 'Midnight At The Oasis' (-3), 'Lean On Me' (-3), Fugees (-6), Tight Fit (-3)
)
Round 2: 15 (missed
Amy Grant (-3), 1993 (-3), Paul Anka (-6), 'Hurry Up Harry' (-3), 'Tarzan Boy' (-6), Snowy White (-3)
)
3 in 10: 3/3 (
'Gold', 'True', 'Lifeline'
) - thanks #1 album sessions teaching me a third song from them beyond the obvious 2
Aside from better guessing at the years (was 6 years early then 4 years late today oop) I feel like the only other ones there that I should have got were
Fugees and Amy Grant - the former I just forgot about entirely but then kicked myself when it was read out, while for the latter I got 'Big Yellow Taxi' and 'Joe Le Taxi' mixed up and said Vanessa Paradis :drama: although I am not sure I'd have been able to quickly recall Amy Grant's name anyway tbf
. The rest ring no bells at all so 30+ scores were completely out of my knowledge limits today!
(I did know Sham 69 had a song called 'Hurry Up England' which was of course a World Cup themed update of 'Hurry Up Harry' but had no clue at all about the original title oop)
Seconding the love for the
'Cornflake Girl'
clip tho <3

+5 Escapism.
+4 Creepin'
+3 Boy's a liar (still slightly prefer the solo version but the Ice Spice verse is growing on me)
+2 Kill Bill
+1 Flowers
-1 Calm Down
-2 Sure Thing
-3 Anti-Hero
-4 messy in heaven
-5 10:35 (I don't dislike this but it's very mid and don't think it'll ever not feel weird to me that this is a top 10 hit when his last couple of hits felt so much more 'eventful')

I can definitely get behind FSR Rontvia to win  It was very Ortiga meets Wardruna.
I am slightly taken aback at how much I genuinely enjoyed Niceland's entry as a song - I was slightly dreading a 7 minute entry that is just a musical version of a Bible verse but they really disguised it well as a solid indie-folk song.
I didn't love this semi quite as much as some others but still a fair share of great stuff in there, sending some hype to Bronzil (I had a feeling you would have better / more to my taste entries in you than your debut!), East Rukahavian (their best for ages, don't sleep on this one pls semi 2), Kluminican Republic and Utopia as well in particular.
I'll try and slot in a relisten for this semi at some point as well if I find a good time to (will definitely be relistening to semi 1 at least before voting as I was kind of only half paying attention to several of the songs during the listenthrough).

Oops I really thought I had already posted the tracklist for last week but apparently I didn't! Sorry will finally do that today.
Btw I know I literally said last week that I don't want to deviate from doing 3 hours of songs per week lol but decided to make this week's session a slightly shorter one (2 hours + bonuses) as there's another BJSC listenthrough happening at 8pm and I want to leave a little bit of space between them. Should be back to normal scheduling next week.

And here are the results from the January monthly round...
Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:
11 87 Cat Burns - people pleaser
10 117 FLO - Cardboard Box
9 120 Luude and Issey Cross - Oh My (feat. Moby)
8 121 Mimi Webb - Red Flags
7 125 NewJeans - Ditto
6 132 Taylor Swift - Bejeweled
5 144 Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan - Rumble
Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...
4 147 Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side
Which means our first 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Bizarrap/Shakira, Miley Cyrus and Sub Focus/Dimension :cheer: The order of them doesn't make any difference but for what it's worth it was a close race between Miley and Bizarrap for 1st place with both being miles ahead of the rest of the pack but Miley ultimately winning by just 7 points, while it was super tight between Sub Focus, Fall Out Boy and Skrillex for the last guaranteed slot and the potential slot but 'Ready To Fly' squeaking out 3rd place by 5 points.
3 152 Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly
2 207 Bizarrap and Shakira - Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53
1 214 Miley Cyrus - Flowers
(will start including the list of yearly round qualifiers in the OP from next week onwards x)
Click here to see the spreadsheet overview of the votes if that interests you at all x

Thanks to the 43 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:
Official results from week 6:
[ 24 ] RAYE - Ice Cream Man. (#69)
[ 19 ] Rita Ora - You Only Love Me (#57)
[ 13 ] Switch Disco and Robert Miles - REACT (feat. Ella Henderson) (#90)
[ 8 ] Anne-Marie - SAD B!TCH (#65)
[ 7 ] Falling In Reverse - Watch The World Burn (#95)
[ 5 ] Nathan Dawe and Bru-C - Oh Baby (feat. bshp and Issey Cross) (#60)
[ 5 ] Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran - Who We Love (#85)
[ 5 ] Matt Sassari - Give It To Me (#96)
BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 6 and auto-qualifying for the February monthly round is RAYE - Ice Cream Man..
Turns out I was actually wrong the other week and we do already have a poll winner representing the R&B/hip-hop forum (neat that all 4 genre forums are represented within the first 6 weeks!), though I'm not exactly sure what genre I'd categorise this particular song as with RAYE's album being quite all over the map stylistically. In any case, 'Ice Cream Man.' was the 5th and final song released just ahead of British singer RAYE's long-delayed debut album 'My 21st Century Blues', featuring harrowing lyrics about her experience with sexual assault. Despite there being arguably more commercially friendly tracks on the album this proved the most popular new track and only the 2nd song from the album to chart at all after the titan of 'Escapism.'. Here's hoping she has more and greater success in the future.
Rita Ora missed out on a place in the poll last week which was clearly a tactic to get a nicer draw in this poll but she nonetheless finishes in 2nd place, 5 votes behind RAYE although still getting votes from nearly half of voters. Switch Disco's update of Robert Miles classic 'Children' (with added Ella Henderson) is the only other song to crack double digits in a week with slightly lower turnout and... not the best quality. But still another week of no song individually embarrassing itself as last place is a 3 way tie on 5 votes each (
and somehow that does not include either Anne-Marie or Falling In Reverse).Weekly winners to date:
01 // 12/01/23 // Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly
02 // 19/01/23 // Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan - Rumble
03 // 26/01/23 // Miley Cyrus - Flowers
04 // 02/02/23 // Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side
05 // 09/02/23 // P!nk - TRUSTFALL
06 // 16/02/23 // RAYE - Ice Cream Man.

9 songs this week although there are 10 on the Spotify playlist as I've included both the solo version of 'Special' and the remix featuring SZA that was heavily driving its chart position. Feel free to vote based on either version! Including both Lizzo versions the playlist is 30 minutes and 37 seconds with everything being neatly in the 2-4 minute range.
Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!
You have until Saturday evening ish as usual :jump:

Great: Kelly Lee Owens, Estella Boersma
Very good: SHERELLE
Good: POSITIVE+, salute, Sultan + Shepard
Decent: Django Django
Mid: Two Shell
Ooops I've been a fan of most of Two Shell's other songs but this one was bordering on being a bit annoying - otherwise a really good week here but Kelly takes my vote pretty easily, excited to hear the other 3 new songs from her EP too!
(lol I see I'm alone in voting for Kelly, taste has left the building :cheeseblock: but hey, everyone has at least one vote now  x salute is a fine winner here, I did vote for it in the other poll lol but only 5th here)
Sam Ryder - There's Nothing But Space, Man!
