quick pedantry note - you’ve got the wrong version of Give It To Me in the playlist, there is a 1:43 “full vocal mix” version which is the version actually charting
Oops did not realise that (that's one of the couple of songs I've not listened to yet), changed it now! An even shorter playlist this week then :magic:
Speaking of alternate versions I was half considering putting 'Boy's a liar Pt. 2' on here this week too but decided to stick to only fully new entries.

Covering 46 albums this week bringing us to July 2006. That may be an alarming date but don't worry, we're not finishing on that album. That'll be the penultimate one. (I wouldn't have played a second song from it next week anyway). I'll be playing an instrumental version of the song from it and maybe a bonus track from the version of the band without its singer. x
This week's #2 albums:
2005Pushing the Senses - Feeder
Mezmerize - System of a Down
In Your Honour - Foo Fighters
Supernature - Goldfrapp
Late Registration - Kanye West
A Bigger Bang - The Rolling Stones
Have a Nice Day - Bon Jovi
Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection - Take That
Keep On - Will Young
2006
Employment - Kaiser Chiefs
The Back Room - Editors
Keys to the World - Richard Ashcroft
Inside In, Inside Out - The Kooks
I'm still unsure what to do with the suggestion of playing multiple songs for Burt Bacharach. I know he was a legendary songwriter but I can't say I really love many of the songs people have mentioned from him :kink: I think my favourite from the list Ed posted would be 'Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa'.
(I am going to start at the normal time btw)

Nice to see Linkin Park so high up, would be great if that can go top 40 (I imagine it'll be pretty frontloaded but if My Chemical Romance and blink-182 could get top 40 hits then I imagine this has a shot too). And great numbers for Paramore across the board! Nice to see 'The News' and 'C'Est Comme Ça' both re-entering at new peaks.
Also cool to see 'OMG' now debuting for NewJeans too, it's become a bigger hit than 'Ditto' in the US now so interested to see if it ends up doing the same here. I do prefer 'Ditto' but this is a good song too.
KING of the cowboys Luke Combs, he’s never done anything wrong anyway.Releasing 'The Kind Of Love We Make' was a pretty big crime tho x

Also a reminder that the January monthly round is open for the rest of this week as well if you've not voted in it yet! (I haven't myself x). Will close that at the same time as this week's regular poll.

Thanks to the 48 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:
Official results from week 5:
[ 33 ] P!nk - TRUSTFALL (#59)
[ 23 ] Freya Ridings - Weekends (#100)
[ 18 ] Sam Smith, Calvin Harris and Jessie Reyez - I'm Not Here To Make Friends (#23)
[ 14 ] The Kid LAROI - Love Again (#18)
[ 11 ] SZA - Snooze (#56)
[ 11 ] Tom Grennan - Here (#84)
[ 6 ] KSI - Voices (feat. Oliver Tree) (#11)
[ 6 ] Baby Tate - Hey, Mickey! (#82)
[ 5 ] Strandz - Us Against The World (#65)
[ 5 ] Luke Combs - The Kind Of Love We Make (#83)
BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 5 and auto-qualifying for the February monthly round is P!nk - TRUSTFALL.
After last week's surprise winner we're back to what I expected, although it was again my favourite song of the week so no complaints, it's the latest single from American superstar P!nk who is more than two decades into her career and still consistently churning out the hits with this dance-pop cut climbing in its second week to give her a second new top 40 hit in as many weeks, both from her upcoming 9th album also titled 'TRUSTFALL'. Some may say it's because of autoplay payola, some may say it's because it's her best song for years. Maybe both are true. In any case, it received the backing of a little over 2/3 of voters. He isn't credited on it but Fred again.. is on production duties here making this in a way his second poll win of the year.
She took a few weeks to (barely) make the cut to be included in one of these polls but upon her belated debut Freya Ridings' comeback single lands in second place, 10 votes behind P!nk. Four other songs managed to get a double digit number of voters, with third place going to Sam Smith's new single which may or may not be a collaboration with Calvin Harris and Jessie Reyez (I gave them the benefit of the doubt for this poll x), fourth to The Kid LAROI's new track which Joseph bribed 14 people to vote for, and it's a tie to round out the top 5 between a SZA album track and a new song from Tom Grennan on the eve of him getting himself cancelled at the BRITs. The remaining songs each got either 5 or 6 votes so a pretty high scoring week in general. I assume 5 people voted for Luke Combs by accident.
Weekly winners to date:
01 // 12/01/23 // Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly
02 // 19/01/23 // Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan - Rumble
03 // 26/01/23 // Miley Cyrus - Flowers
04 // 02/02/23 // Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side
05 // 09/02/23 // P!nk - TRUSTFALL

Only 8 songs this week and
halfmore than half of them are under 3 minutes so a trim24 minutes and 16 seconds22 minutes and 29 seconds in total. Although based on the quality of the stuff I have heard from this lot already it's not a very pleasant24 minutes and 16 seconds22 minutes and 29 seconds. Any Falling In Reverse voters will be joining last week's Luke Combs voters in being judged heavily.Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!
You have until Saturday evening ish as usual :jump:

Oh, some excellent choices here *.* Meltdown is one of my favourites from the Hunger Games soundtrack, Exit Music is stunning, Naatu Naatu is a whole load of fun and Ederlezi is hauntingly beautiful, weirdly enough I discovered that through the remix that was sent to the main contest a while back!
Impressed how inspired this is actually, both in films and songs, quite a few here I'm interested to hear! I'm pleased I got to send my choice somewhere, I really wanted to share it but thought it might be a bit risky for the main contest. FYI it is technically two different songs so you'll have to use the two YouTube links if there's a listen-through, but they're both so brief I thought they fitted well together, my upload of it is currently the only one on the internet with them combined! B-) (and it hasn't been taken down yet shockingly x)
SoundCloud links work on SyncTube as well!
I presume everyone has just been too stunned by my entry to comment on it x

New poll up probably in a couple of hours if we have any more last minute voters! (At the moment we're on 47 votes for a third week in a row, the consistency)
I did vote in this the other day but didn't get around to doing my usual ranking/commentary oops, here it is now in slightly more abbreviated form as the songs aren't as fresh in my memory:
1 'TRUSTFALL' - P!nk's best song in aaaages, not hurt by the Fred again.. production of course but she delivers a strong hook here as well to her credit 9/10
2 'Snooze' - I remember this being a mid level highlight from the SZA album on first listen but it's grown on me more now, a little surprised something so lowkey has gone viral from the album but I'm here for it, gives me similar vibes to Childish Gambino's 'Redbone' 8.5/10
3 'Weekends' - did not expect Freya to go in this disco-tinged direction but it works well for her, particularly like the bit where the production ramps up in the latter half of the chorus, reminds me of some of Florence + The Machine's stuff 8/10
4 'Love Again' - I thought this was ok on first listen but did think it might be a grower and indeed it has been, it's very Bieber but I actually really like the instrumentation and the chorus is catchy 7.5/10
5 'I'm Not Here To Make Friends' - it's very diet 'What's Your Pleasure?' but still a bit of a groove and waaaay better than 'Gimme' which is all I can really ask for 7/10
6 'Us Against The World' - a passable 50 Cent pastiche but I can't see Strandz being a very interesting presence in UK rap if we ever even hear anything else from him 6/10
7 'Voices' - Oliver Tree's verse is ok, KSI just really needs to stop trying to sell this vibe because it's very tedious. Has grown on me a little bit but still mid 5/10
8 'Hey, Mickey!' - I don't really know what to say about this one, I didn't hate it but also just not something that needs to exist. Thought the production was kinda basic as well iirc. Also lol that it finishes with a 'haha gay' line, at least it has the excuse of being years old so hopefully she's matured a bit now 5/10
9 'Here' - that hook is really not strong enough to be repeated as many times as it is, gets quite grating 3/10
10 'The Kind Of Love We Make' - no. 0/10
Voted for the top 4.
Was surprised at the time I voted to see Sam had actually been in 2nd place and my vote tied Freya with them - but Freya now pulled ahead so we have the top 2 I initially expected.

From yesterday:
Round 1: 27 (missed
Barry Manilow (-3), 'Our Lips Are Sealed' (-3), 'If I Told You That' (-3), B*Witched (-3)
)
Round 2: 12 (missed
1996 (-3), Roxette (-3), Jim Gilstrap (-6), The Rezillos (-3), Republica (-3), 'You're No Good' (-6), Rick Astley (-3)
)
3 in 10: 2/3 (
'Carolyna', 'Never Be The Same Again'
)
Really nice bonus questions in round 1 (argh at that random cover of
'In The Summertime'
though) but a few tough normal questions, including question 1 oops. Round 2 started well but I was 1 year early for the year question and then had basically no clue for the rest, I maybe could have guessed
Roxette
but nevermind x
Probably should have got the 3 in 10 but my mind was still stuck on
'I Want You Back' from the other day, which is of course the wrong Mel
. An old BJSC is the culprit for me somehow recalling a #49 hit over all of this artist's other top 10s :kink:
I fully forgot 'I Turn To You' existed honestly, and I was trying to recall the Matt Cardle collab too but couldn't remember its title in time
.

'Buck Rogers' and 'Pyramid Song' were two of the last ones I cut, the latter I'm just not familiar enough with (maybe if we do an album listenthrough for that album it'll click with me more x) but I did enjoy it when it popped up in the #1 albums sessions though not quite as much as a couple of their others that were played there!
'Because The Night' is pretty good as well, although tainted by the existence of a C*sc*da version tbh x

Oop I missed voting in the previous rounds of this (tbf it looks like they fell to page 2 and didn't get bumped oop x). Ah well, will try and make sure to vote in this part x
I wouldn't have changed any of the semi 1 qualifiers as I don't particularly love any of those 4 closest DNQs and the rest are definitely too far away. 'Can't Be Us' is my fave of those DNQs, but obviously miles off (I imagine I'd have at least doubled its points :P)
SF2 maybe a different story as depending on how close they are / what came 20th I miiight have saved Arctic Monkeys and/or Vibe Chemistry as I imagine both may have been points contenders for me. Possibly Stormzy too though I'd probably need to have heard it a couple more times, I remember it being a bit of a banger on first listen though. Poor brave 'Khabib' deserved at least one point for proving Central Cee can still make good songs x
How is Leah Kate still in <_<

I think Acid Fader and o0o were my 2 favourite Jadakissnia entries of last year so cool to see them finishing next to each other here! Oscillian was a banger to round out the year as well (also hooray that you have indeed started this year stronger results wise :magic:) Also adored 'The Perfect Girl' too, I didn't realise when I first heard it that it was a cover as I'm not familiar with the original but he definitely makes it his own. Was actually just thinking I hope we get some new material from him soon and checked and he literally released a new song yesterday ooh x
For once there is a ROSALÍA song here that is actually not my favourite of the section oh my x although still love it of course (and I think the music video may be my favourite from the MOTOMAMI era). My fave here has to be 'HEX', my favourite album track from another excellent album from Everything Everything, truly unhinged in the best way possible *.* and also absolutely adore 'Billie Toppy', I need them to make more songs with this post-punky edge to them (unfortunately didn't really care too much for the single after that one iirc). Somehow don't think I ever noticed the similarity between the La Femme song and 'Knights Of Cydonia' (I remember you making the Joe Meek comparison before though) but can definitely see that!
My opinion on 'Seventeen Going Under' has kept going up and down but I never managed to really properly get into it sadly, I appreciate it for what it is and it was great for a song with that sound to be so huge but it just doesn't connect with me like that for whatever reason, I hope I'll be more into his next era as he definitely can make songs I love (see 'Play God' and 'Get You Down'). And... been saying this for weeks now but one day I promise I will finally listen to 'Profound Mysteries III' but 'Like An Old Dog' is a good pick from it, Pixx definitely delivering with their collabs.

Apparently we never had a thread for the part 1 of this album but here's one for part 2 :magic:
New album from British indie pop / alternative dance / insert genre of your choice band The Go! Team dropped last week, unfortunately became their first album to date to not chart in the top 100 at all (not even in the midweeks oops) but they've had a couple of top 40 albums in the past and one top 40 single.
There were 5 singles from this album - 'Divebomb', 'Look Away, Look Away' (with an uncredited, except on YouTube, feature from Beninese group Star Feminine Band) and 'Whammy-O' all dropped last year, 'Gemini' earlier this year and then 'The Me Frequency' (also with Star Feminine Band) a few days before the album. The first four singles are all complete fire and some of the most fun indie pop songs in recent memory which had me really excited for this album. Didn't love the last one as much and unfortunately that was kind of a sign for the rest of the album as I do think the first 4 singles are the 4 best songs on there.
Much of the rest of the album kind of lacks the same quirky energy as those singles and instead has like... a Jackson 5 feel to it? Which is not entirely awful or anything but it was certainly a swerve from expectations! Still produces a couple of other highlights like 'But We Keep On Trying' and 'Getting To Know (All The Ways We're Wrong For Each Other)' although my favourite album track is 'Going Nowhere' which goes in a more synthpop direction with vocals from Chisato Kokubo from J-Pop band Lucie,Too.

The sample saves the song, otherwise it would be generic as heck.
I don't like the way they editted Ella's voice. She has one of the vocals on lower register (Ghost, Here For You, Glitterball) but here she sounded robotic and it has been like that for some time.
It still is generic as heck, with the bonus of making you wonder why you aren't just listening to the original.

The UK #1 Sessions // Albums Edition
in UK Charts
I mean they are called 'bonus songs' for a reason, don't feel obligated to listen to them x
(Apart from Jamelia slots. Those are mandatory listens).
