  1. I am going to get a second listen in before voting this time (will aim to do that in the next couple of days) but sending my biggest hype in this semi to Fljótavík and Kathaldazia! Both semis finishing on a high *.*

Also a shoutout to Conoria with quite a standout debut entry, wasn't quite expecting 'German Ariana with drill production' from that title but I'm here for it. Idk if it's too likely to be a qualifier but fingers crossed x

I think semi 1 had more big highlights but also more big lowlights - both semis are quite a mixed bag this month really, fingers crossed for the good stuff to prevail to the final ~

  2. Voted for Clavish - a bit surprised by that as I really didn't care for any of the previous charting songs by him but really enjoyed the production on this and actually enjoyed his flow/voice for once (have found it a bit jarring on previous releases). Finally seeing a bit of the hype behind him.

Stormzy/FLO was good too, liked the original song and I think the remix is a slight improvement. Popcaan and Potter were both decent, didn't get much from the rest.

  3. I'm really liking both 'Rumble' and 'Way Back' so promising start to this era! 'Rumble' is really serving late night Radio 1 a decade ago vibes (especially the dubstep parts, very Benga-esque), pretty surprised something like that attracted enough viral hype to become a top 20 hit but I'm totally here for it. 'Way Back' actually sounds far more like a hit between the two
  4. Surprised at Suedeonia getting DNQ predictions, I can see that being a dark horse hit, I guess folk music isn't exactly BJSC's bread and butter but it's such a fun song (and went down really well on SyncTube for what it's worth).

Been a while since I last attempted predictions, might throw my hat in the ring after the semi 2 listenthrough ~

  5. We're starting 2023 off with a wig-snatching banger by my bestie K (formerly Katerina from Serebro). Produced by Sega Bodega and co-written by Shygirl, we have no choice but to stan 💞

Oops I didn't know any of this

    Brb redoing entire veto research

added album bombs this week: Blanck Mass - The Rig OST

  7. 2 appearances :maloney: defo was worth finally sending Daughters Of Reykjavík after keeping them as a potential for years just for this moment tbh :jump: and hooray for Hazel squeaking in too.

Most of your top 10 doesn't cross over that much with my taste unsurprisingly buuuut your #1 is excellent and was an 18 for me! Also love to see 'Happy New Year', 'Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 51', 'High Hopes', 'Love You (When You're A Mess)', 'Strictly Business', '50/50' and 'The Ocean Sings To Me In Turquoise Waves' here too.

  8. Wow quite a lot of songs dropping out today - 'Red', 'Jive Talkin'', 'Sweet Dreams', 'Juicebox' and 'Red Blooded Woman' are my faves here as well as 'Toccata' which was another great discovery from the #1 albums sessions.

Céline Dion and Jon Secada both songs that have been answers I couldn't get in PopMaster recently and both out with 25 points

  9. Elëdan and Pagasa both delivering as expected <3 but sending some slightly more unpredictable hype from the other semi to FSR Rontvia and to Suedeonia (that was an amazing closer for the semi, can confirm Levellers still have it in them, literal barn stomper *.* hoping that has the potential to do quite well?)

A decent semi overall, had 11 or 12 vote worthy songs, although I think it is my least favourite bottom 3 in a semi in quite some time

Btw I think I'm gonna do a SyncTube for semi 2 same time tomorrow. Was great to see such high turnout (think we peaked at 17 people online) and some names who don't usually show up for these things today! Inb4 we're back to like 6 people for semi 2 :kink:

  10. Same score in both rounds today but getting there in very different ways - 2/3 bonuses in round 1 but 0/3 in round 2!

    Round 1: 18 (missed

'The Living Daylights' (-3), 1982 (-3), 'Time Is Tight' (-6), 'The Heat Is On' (-3), Status Quo (-3), 'Rhythm Of The Rain' (-3)

    )

    Round 2: 18 (missed

'Haitian Divorce' (-3), The Temptations (-6), The Sweet (-6), Perry Como (-6)

    )

    3 in 10: 2/3 (

'All Night Long (All Night)', 'Hello'

    ) - had

    'Stuck On You'

on the tip of my tongue too but couldn't quite recall it aw

I was 12 years late on round 1, didn't recognise any of the named artists so that one was a complete stab in the dark  Probably should have got

    the a-ha song

but had no clue about the rest.

Also had no clue about the first 3 that I missed in round 2, for the last bonus I made the same incorrect guess of

    Dean Martin

as the contestant did, whoops ~

I was trying to think of Julian's thread but I think I was confusing 'Papa Loves Mambo' with 'Mambo Italiano' whoops! Plus it did kind of sound like him...

Had a couple of lucky educated guesses today -

The Beautiful South, The Rolling Stones and Kim Appleby

were all answers I was unsure of.

Thanks to the 53 people who participated in the first week of this (even if you just clicked null vote #dannyboy), much higher engagement than I expected, hooray!

    Official results from week 1:

    [ 24 ] Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly (#52)

    [ 21 ] Taylor Swift - Bejeweled (#63)

    [ 16 ] Taylor Swift - You're On Your Own, Kid (#65)

    [ 13 ] Miguel - Sure Thing (#83)

    [ 9 ] Coi Leray - Players (#68)

    [ 9 ] Øneheart and reidenshi - snowfall (#71)

    [ 8 ] Jengi - Bel Mercy (#93)

[ 5 ] Metro Boomin and Future - Too Many Nights (feat. Don Toliver) (#88)

    [ 4 ] INTERWORLD - METAMORPHOSIS (#77)

    [ 2 ] Libianca - People (#92)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 1 and auto-qualifying for the January monthly round is Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly.

I was kind of expecting one of the Taylor tracks to win here - and indeed she got 2nd and 3rd both with healthy vote totals so imagine both songs have a good chance of still making it to the January vote too - but instead it's a win for this track combining drum n bass with hardcore/rave which is poised to potentially give English DJ Sub Focus his first top 40 hit for over 9 years (since 2013's #10 hit 'Turn Back Time'), as well as a first top 40 ever for fellow English DJ Dimension, the pair having previously charted together with 2019 #51 hit 'Desire'.

Miguel's belatedly charting TikTok hit also cracks double figure votes in fourth place, with Coi Leray and Øneheart/reidenshi just behind.

    Weekly winners to date:

    01 // 12/01/23 // Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly

A shorter list of 6 songs to choose between this week - and let's be real only 2 or 3 at a push are likely to be big vote magnets here  - totalling a bit over 18 minutes, with Popcaan giving us the first new hit of the year that's over 4 minutes long. Here's the link to the Spotify playlist again (it's the same as last week's so it'll be updated if you already saved it to your library).

Once again please vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

I've decided I am going to move to posting these threads on Saturday instead so this poll will only be open for about 5 days and a bit but that should still be plenty. x

  12. Another nice choice here based on the songs I know from them! I think 'Sexy Boy' and 'Ce Matin-Là' (courtesy of AH Gold) are the only ones I know from this album. Will certainly be up for another listenthrough whenever one happens (I think we'll be getting the BJSC listenthroughs in early this time, should also be one for Club Bizarre at some point but I'm sure things can be coordinated).
