1,086,430 - Spice Up Your Life

947,894 - Goodbye

The fact that they will soon have 1 x 2million seller, 5x 1million sellers AND Say You'll Be There and Spice Up Your Life will go 2x Platinum taking it to a collective of 4 singles with at least double platinum is such a serve :cheer: What a group, what a legacy :cheer:

Not many groups can say that. Literally their Top10 best sellers are all iconic, well remembered and well streamed singles that were released around 25 years ago. It's a massive achievement

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

 I certainly look forward to Goodbye joining their million seller list. Though by the time it does it, Stop and M/WDYTYA should be on the verge of it as well! 7 singles over a million would be incredible

OCC published an article of the Best 'Selling' Christmas No.1s and it says that '2 Become 1' had sold 1,150,000 copies.

The emphasis being on 'selling' so there are no streams included in this article.

That's quite impressive for sales, still!

It's such an iconic song. A Christmas classic that isnt even a Christmas song, beautiful timeless ballad and with a positive sex message in it. Can you get any more iconic than that?!

According to OCC Goobye sold 949,000 copies.

Why isn't Wannabe included in the list of best selling singles in the UK on either singles or the combined sales on wikipedia? It should be in 25th place for combined sales and it should surely be somewhere in the top 50 on paid for purchases wasn't it on 1.5 million paid for??

The pure sales list on Wikipedia is only up to June 2018 with #50 at 1.428 million. As of 2020 Wannabe's pure sales is somewhere between 1.390-1.4 million.

As for the second list including streams, that list was 2017, and over the last three years Wannabe has really picked up a lot of streaming units. 3 years it wasn't even on 1.7 million which is #50. Now it's only 40,000 units or so away from 2 million. I am sure it'll be included in that Wikipedia list if it was updated.

The last update for the 'VB' album was 53,938 and according to the OCC article this week about albums turning 20 in 2021 has the album at 54k now

A Girl Like Me is also in the article but hasn't increased. Still at 127k sales.

They sell so slowly, they've just rounded up to the nearest 1k!

That's what I was thinking...

I'm gonna stick with 54k :D

Here we need some new sales updates for this new start of the year 😊😊

As I posted a few weeks ago with the OCC article about the 'best selling Christmas songs', 2B1's current pure sales total is at 1.150m but back in 2017 it was at 1.140m that means it's done over 10k in pure sales in a three year period. I wonder how well their other singles have done over the last few years (Wannabe, SUYL) in comparison?

OCC round up or down to the nearest 10k. For instance OCC stated 1.14m in February 2017, but in September 2017 they revealed a more accurate figure of 1,137,775. By February 2020 they were still stating 1.14m.

OCC now saying 1.15m possibly means that it’s exceeded 1.145m and they’re rounding up. In which case it’s sold a minimum of 7,225 in 3 years & 3 months. That’s an average of 43 sales a week (honestly I’m surprised it’s even that high... but I suppose it’ll be lower than that per week from Jan-Oct and then gets more Nov-Dec  )

Thank you Jay for clearing that up.

Sadly their trickle sales will probably keep decreasing year after year (like most artists) as iTunes sales dwindle and streaming continues to grow.

Just noticed I wrote 1.5m accidentally instead of 1.15m lol, if only it had sold 1.5m pure sales *_* I've edited!

By the way I have an update about the Greatest Hits! I'll post the info soon!

  • Author

1st January 2021 chart:

Greatest Hits sold 772 copies, taking its total to 660,715! :D Sadly this wasn't enough for Top 200 - #200 sold 807, so Spice Girls were just 35 copies away from re-entering. It was technically #213!

I don't have the format breakdown, unfortunately - but what I do know is that 703 copies were "digital", which is downloads and streaming combined. The remaining 69 copies were physicals (CD and Vinyl).

Its weekly sales were down -12% on the previous week (25th Dec chart), which means it would have sold somewhere from 873 to 882 copies that week. #200 sold 1,021 sales.

The last update we had was 655,505 on 13th Nov, meaning that Greatest Hits sold 5,210 in 7 weeks - that is 744 copies a week on average (the average is boosted by 25th Dec and 1st Jan - I guess in a normal week it's closer to 700 a week).

It's not in the 8th Jan Top 200; the #200 sold 744 (funnily enough the same number as GH's average sales). I guess this week is another week where it wasn't too far off Top 200.

Anyway, it's nice to see it on 660k+. I assume it'll make it to 700k by the beginning of 2022. Hopefully the girls are able to do something meaningful for their 25th anniversary which creates a boost for the GH.

It annoys me way more than it should that the GH cd is not stocked properly. It should be like ABBA Gold stocked cheap everywhere.

Also they need to do another vinyl with the original cover, scam some more sales out of us fans.
