Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Wow, Stop really was one of their lowest-selling singles ever! I wonder if Geri left, as she thought they were on the way out?

I could be making this up, but I have this memory of her If Only book alluding to the #2 position of Stop and her seeing it as a sign that things weren't going to last forever? Sorry if that's untrue, I haven't read it for years. I'm more confident that she said in that book that she believed that most groups had a shelf life of two years. Which seems crazy now when you see Little Mix coming on for 10 years together. Imagine if Spice Girls had kept going for 6 albums and were still releasing in 2006?!

That makes perfect sense! However, the difference is Weshite and the Cowell Band are manufactured and just release whatever track the label gives them. The Spices micro managed EVERYTHING. According to sources in most Spice docs, this put immense strain on the band, with all of them managing certain things whilst in photo or video shoots, on the phone to different people. That was unsustainable. The Spices could easily have released three or four pop albums together before being dwarfed by Destiny's Child and TLC. However, they could have gone longer, competing with Girls Aloud and Sugababes too, if they didn't mind diminished success after that. It would have cemented their legacy, as a two year, quick career, with one album basically promo for a movie, is called artificial by music critics. They wouldn't have hit no.1 all the time in the 2000s, but they would have been able to tour a lot more often now. If they had gone on until 2006, we would never have had the exxciting 1999-2003 Solo Spice years! That was like the second life of the band. What other pop group has ever done what they did solo? Beatles, and that's it!

Oooh very nice to have an accurate figure! Thank you for sharing that article

The last figure we had was 1,945,581 on 13th November 2020. I assume this 2,033,880 figure is from 11th June. That's an increase of 88,299 in the past 30 weeks - 2943 per week on average. Based on this, it's likely that Wannabe passed 2 million on 26th March ^_^

At this rate it'll be on around 2,046,000 on 9th July (the day after the anniversary) and should have exceeded 2,050,000 by 23rd July, which is the release date of the vinyl and cassette.

It's currently on track for 2.4m (4xPlatinum) by November 2023.

Excellent results! Hopefully with the new release/push, it can get to 4x platinum quicker than that. AMAZING !!!

The weekly increases of Shout Out to My Ex by Little Mix are higher than Wannabe, and it seems to me like it could snatch Wannabe's crown as being the "best selling" girl group single by 2023, which will feel so weird. It's certainly on course to be the first girl group single to make it to 4xPlat. I love Little Mix, but... hmm...

Yeah that doesnt sit well with me either! Hopefully this year's celebrations gets Wannabe a bit more ahead? I do love Little Mix but Shout Out To My Ex is one of their worst songs, jesus...

Never underestimate the bad taste of the General Public!!!

That's why for me we really need to get behind Wannabe this next month, streams, downloads, vinyls, just all add as many sales as possible.
