I guess they're probably copies that were lurking in some independent record stores in Wales!

 

I wouldn't be surprised if charting that low in the Welsh singles chart means it was just 1 copy sold hmm.

Occ stopped to publish the scottish chart on the website at the end of 2020.

The chart was composed of physical and downloads and It was similar to the UK one.

Now they are different and the scottish one Is made by just physical sales.

I am not sure about welsh one.

Yes if you look up Spice Girls cd on Amazon you can see new physicals for sale. They are obviously stock that was in some warehouse somewhere. Sometimes they are 3rd party sellers fullfilled by Amazon.

Amazon can be pretty iffy with what they sell and mark as being "new". I bought Spiceworld on CD directly from Amazon in 2020, it was stated as being New. It arrived and it was 100% a "refurbished" previously owned copy. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's the case with some singles.

 

There's definitely going to be some independent stores dotted around the country that still have old stock of all sorts of things. I remember Music Week would sometimes point out that a random old N Sync single occasionally sold copies on cassette many years after its release.

Good news! We have a new total for Greatest Hits: 726,670 :cheer:

 

It sold 817 copies in the most recent chart week (738 were "digital" sales i.e. downloads and streaming combined, and 79 copies were physicals).

 

It wasn't Top 200 though. The #200 sold 903 copies. Technically it was at #226 but positions outside of the Top 200 aren't considered to be official.

 

A week earlier (4th November chart) Greatest Hits sold 748 in that week (the #200 that week sold 895).

 

So as we can see, it is quite far off making it into the charts, but at least we can see that it is ticking away nicely in the background.

From 07/01/22 to 28/10/22 (43 weeks) its average sales per week were 674. So the fact its sales were 748 and 817 in the past two weeks shows that it's doing better than it usually does.

 

If we just assume it would go back to its 674 per week average from next week onwards, then it wouldn't reach 800,000 until December 2024. 900,000 would happen in October 2027 and 1,000,000 would be in August 2030.

 

If there's really an intention for them to reunite in 2023 then it would surely reach 800k much more quickly!

If they do the movie at Christmas and a tour next year, the Greatest Hits is bound to get back to the charts, it always does when they do stuff together :wub:

726k is such a healthy figure now. Spiceworld the movue anniversary would surely help its weekly sales if/when it goes on streaming.
