He who asks gets As there won't be any quizzes in the Lounge this year (source: Joseph, if they do pop up don't blame me!) we've decided to host another season as the world slowly descends into lockdown once again. If you would like to host a quiz, then please post here which week you would like to take and what quiz you would like to do. You can do one of the tried and tested formats or if you have your own format explain it to me so it can be considered. Your questions ideally should all be chart/music related; there was a section here about more general knowledge quizzes taking place in The Lounge, that may no longer be the case but I didn't feel like leaving a sentence on nine words. I'm not as organised as Dan was so I will be hosting the first quiz in a week's time, which should give you all time to perfect your own quizzes. This season should last around 10 weeks as per the last two, with one quiz per week, but this can be shortened or extended depending on demand. Please post below the quiz you would like to do and the weeks you are available (you don't have to start the quiz on exactly the day it says as long as it's somewhere that can reasonably be called that week). Usually the quizzes are open for around a week, with a results 'show' after all the submissions have been collected. Schedule: Week 1 (05/10): Pointless (with a twist) [PeteFromLeeds] [Entry / Results] Week 2 (12/10): Family Fortunes [XhannahlongX] [Entry / Results] Week 3 (19/10): Mango's Quiz of three thirds [M4NGO] [Entry / Results] Week 4 (26/10): Album Cover Quiz [awardinary] [Entry / Results] Week 5 (02/11): Pointless Fortune [danG] [Entry / Results] Week 6 (09/11): Emoji Quiz [Ansel] [Entry / Results Week 7 (16/11): Answer Smash [StoneDragon] [Entry / Results] Week 8 (23/11): Never Mind The Buzzjacks [RabbitFurCoat] Week 9 (30/11): Quickfire Quiz [chrissmith276] Week 10 (07/12): Family Fortunes [Bré] For those of you unfamiliar with Quizzes here is an explanation of the main formats from Bré (via burbe). FAMILY FORTUNES (example from last year: voting thread / results thread) In this quiz, the host asks a series of questions (typically 10 of them) and participants answer each question with what they think the MOST popular response will be. Points are scored based on how many other people gave the same answer as you to each question, so for example if the question is 'name a single by El Chombo' and 15 people responded 'Dame Tu Cosita', each of those people would be given 14 points for that question. Most points wins. POINTLESS (example from last year: voting thread / results thread) This quiz is basically the inverse of Family Fortunes. The host will, again, ask a series of ~10 questions, but here the participants answer each question with what they think the LEAST popular response will be. Points are allocated the same way as in Family Fortunes but here it's the player with the fewest points at the end that wins (so the best answer to a question - a Pointless answer - is one that no other participant answered). There's also the catch that an incorrect answer is penalised by giving the answerer the maximum possible score for that question, i.e. one less than the number of participants (so if there are 31 participants and someone answered the question 'name a winner of the X Factor' with 'Michelle McManus', they would be given 30 points for that question). (Pete edit: my version of Pointless won't be exactly like this so please do take a look at the example for a good idea!) NEVER MIND THE BUZZJACKS (example from last year: voting thread / results thread) The host uploads onto SoundCloud/YouTube a series of short (usually instrumental) clips from songs, usually about 20 of them, and participants simply have to name the songs, scoring a point for each one they get right, or a half-point for guessing the right artist. There's also often some kind of bonus questions based on the songs on the side for additional points. Here's a quick guide RabbitFurCoat put together wayyy back in the day with some instructions for uploading a round of NMTBJ onto SoundCloud. ALBUM COVER PUZZLE (example from last year: voting thread / results thread) The host makes a collage of cropped sections from album covers, usually about 20 of them, and participants name the albums that they are taken from. Participants get points for each one they get right - this may just be 1 point per correct answer, or a varying number of points decided by the hosts based on how difficult they think each one is to guess. Like in NMTBJ there may also be bonus questions on the side for additional points. OTHER FORMATS You are also welcome to try other formats out which aren't listed above! For example, last year we had:- Dingbats (courtesy of PeteFromLeeds) Only Connect (courtesy of Suedehead) So you're welcome to propose something brand new or use one of these alternative formats as well. The leaderboard works by giving 30 points to the winner of each quiz, 29 points to the runner-up and so on. If there are more than 30 participants, anyone outside the top 30 will walk away with nothing. If the host is unable to participate in their own quiz (ie if it's NMTBJs/ACP) or wishes to sit out their own FF/Pointless quiz (hosts are allowed to participate in these, on the basis that they write their own answers before others start coming in) then 'host compensation points' are given by taking the average of their points attained from other quizzes. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have a 9 to 5 and a brain like a sieve but I will try my best to get back to you! |

Ooh yay I’ll host again! I wonder if I could do another album cover quiz if I can think of a suitable chart related theme.
Somewhere toward the middle of the schedule would suit me! In the unlikely event that there’s a lack of hosts I can host Pointless toward the end too if needed. |

I'll put my name down for week 5 - think I'll try something ~new~ but need time to work out the format before I put a quiz name down.

Can I take week 6 please? I've got some ideas for an emoji quiz (basically like the Dingbats example) if that's not too similar to what anyone else has got planned!

I'll host a week - I was thinking an 'Answer Smash' round would be fun and a little different 👍

Sounds good! Just to confirm would that be similar to what comes up when you type 'answer smash' into Google Images?
Would Week 7 be okay for you? |

Yes week 7 is fine with me.
Answer Smash is on Richard Osman’s House of Games - see this link: Link - Answer Smash I’ll do a music themed version. |
