Leaving in fourth place, it is the first breakthrough album in terms of global success. Control is Janet's third studio album and one of the most hugely influential albums of her career/the 80s as a whole! It fuses rhythm and blues, rap vocals, funk, disco and synthesized percussion that helped to catapult Janet and the team behind it into leading innovators of contemporary R&B. It helped to pave the way to a commercial adoration for Janet and is also noted as originating the style and genre that came to be known as new jack swing. The influence was to be heard throughout the decades that followed it, most notably for black musicians that used the era as a template for their careers. It is predominately about the changes that Janet faced in her life, and as the title suggests, it carries a fearless message of controlling the change and finding strength within this. The singles: 'What Have You Done for Me Lately', Nasty', 'When I Think of You', 'Control', 'Let's Wait Awhile', 'The Pleasure Principle' and 'Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun)' saw commercial and critical success and helped to cement the era as one of the most successful eras around the globe. Massing up huge sales and chart life and creating a new lane for artists to follow.

Such a hugely influential and game-changing album "only" coming fourth? She really does have some life-changing albums if that's the quality of the fourth placed one!

This is now near impossible! I know that 'The Velvet Rope' is my favourite but I can't actually call it between the other two for my vote! I am going to listen to both and then make my decision drama.gif

This is so difficult 😭 all three are incredible.
Like Bal, The Velvet Rope is my favourite, but the other two arenít far behind at all.

Janet was my second favourite for a long time but over the last few years Rhythm Nation has crept up in my affections more and more. Iíve voted Janet this time but it kills me to do that haha. Amazing album.

I am voting for Rhythm Nation after listening to that and Janet. Both albums are exceptional, but Janet just pipped it to the post. RN is now tied with The Velvet Rope! drama.gif
