Posted September 20, 200915 yr What are the songs you thought were hits, but either never charted or peaked really really low? Some that come to mind for me are.... Queen...We Will Rock You ...never a single, but might have been a "b" side Led Zeppelin.... Whole lotta love....was never released by them as a single Stevie Wonder...Isn't she lovely....only an album track
September 20, 200915 yr We Will Rock You was a double a-side with We Are the Champions. (In the U.S. that is!) Stairway charted at #37 in November 2007 as a download track. Edited September 20, 200915 yr by grebo69
September 20, 200915 yr The Sundays - Here's Where The Story Ends La Bouche - Be My Lover When In Rome - The Promise These come to mind for me...
September 20, 200915 yr David parton scored a top ten hit in 1976 with a cover of Isn't She Lovely b6dLRrlS8yM
September 20, 200915 yr Tin Tin Out also hit the Top 10 with their cover of Here's Where The Story Ends. And those other two are hardly in the same league as Brian's choices. Edited September 20, 200915 yr by grebo69
September 20, 200915 yr Gazebo - I Like Chopin. One of the best songs of the 80s IMHO, it was huge in Europe, but somehow flopped here :( grGjD1rTNyg On a similar tip, Falco/After The Fire - Der Komissar. Take you pick for version, but it was even a US hit, and ATF were British!
September 23, 200915 yr As well as being a double A side in the US, We Will Rock You was the B side of We Are The Champions in the UK. In reality it should have been a double A side in the UK as it was played quite a number of times on radio in its own right at the time. Whole Lotta Love was belatedly released as a single in 1997 where it reached #21 and then charted again in 1997, this time on downloads, and it peaked at #64. At the same time Stairway To Heaven reached #37. Be My Lover by La Bouche was a UK top 40 hit twice over, #27 in 1995 and #25 in 1996. I Like Chopin by Gazebo was a fairly big radio hit in early 1984 but completely managed to miss the top 75. In fact it managed to miss the entire top 100 although Gazebo's site states it reached the UK top 10! Edited September 23, 200915 yr by Robbie
September 26, 200915 yr I Like Chopin by Gazebo was a fairly big radio hit in early 1984 but completely managed to miss the top 75. In fact it managed to miss the entire top 100 although Gazebo's site states it reached the UK top 10! That was maybe the dance chart... I have the UK release on PRT. It's funny how foreign acts do tend to overstate their success in mass markets tho
September 26, 200915 yr Year Of The Cat - Al Stewart. Reached No.31 in Jan 1977 but it's amazing how many people like it and think it was a big hit.
September 26, 200915 yr The Outfield "Your love" - #6 in the USA, a worldwide hit and a 80's classic...but only made it to #83 in the UK Alphaville "Forever young" - Huge 80's hit in Continental Europe but failed to chart in the UK and the US but the biggest of all must be The Beatles "Yesterday" which was an album track.
September 26, 200915 yr but the biggest of all must be The Beatles "Yesterday" which was an album track. Also a No.7 single upon re-release in 1976.
September 26, 200915 yr I also just found out that Werewolves of London was never a UK hit. I was sure that it had been!
September 26, 200915 yr Oh, of a similar ilk - It Never Rains In Southern California by Albert Hammond. Being brought up on Radio 2, I was shocked to check my old Guiness book and find that The Free Electric Band was his only UK hit...
September 27, 200915 yr In that case it has to be Eleanor Rigby. Sorry. No.1 in 1966 as a double-A side with Paperback Writer. ;)
September 27, 200915 yr Sorry. No.1 in 1966 as a double-A side with Paperback Writer. ;) yellow submarine actually, paperback writer was an 'a' side by itself before elenore rigby/yellow submarine
September 27, 200915 yr yellow submarine actually, paperback writer was an 'a' side by itself before elenore rigby/yellow submarine Oops sorry, my mistake. :o
September 27, 200915 yr Bugger! Forgot Eleanor Rigby was a double a-side! B-side of Paperback Writer was the sublime Rain.
