Posted October 7, 200915 yr So... Ukraine vs England is going to be the first England match to not be shown on TV in recent times, and instead be streamed on the internet for some ridiculous price. Personally, even if the game was on TV I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it, but to pay £4.99 to watch the game when people already pay way over the odds for the likes of Sky and ESPN then it's utterly ludacris imo. :manson: I know broadcasters passed up the oppotunity to show the match, but still...
October 7, 200915 yr England are going to South Africa, so I'm not gutted to miss it. So I'll listen to Radio 5Live's coverage instead at 17:15 Hrs our time.
October 7, 200915 yr I'm actually surprised someone like Dave didn't try to snap it up. I mean extra ad revenue, and audience share would lift right up for them. Surely they could spare a few episodes of Mock The Week
October 8, 200915 yr I can't say I blame anyone for not taking it, for the price that was probably being asked for what is essentially a friendly for England will be pretty ridiculous. I wouldn't have watched it anyway, as Russia vs Germany and Denmark vs Sweden are both on ESPN and are both far more attractive prospects!
October 10, 200915 yr I've found a foreign link on my PC that is working showng the match live. :w00t:
October 10, 200915 yr Author Hahaha Rio Ferdinand. What a spoon. There's no way we'll ever win the World Cup with him and John Terry as our first choice centre-backs...
October 10, 200915 yr Ukraine 1 v 0 England Ashley Cole OG Obviously inspired by his wife's X-Factor picks. -_-
October 10, 200915 yr Hahaha Rio Ferdinand. What a spoon. There's no way we'll ever win the World Cup with him and John Terry as our first choice centre-backs... He's awful now. Like Carragher, it looks like he's dropping from his peak, but much more drastically. He's making more mistakes than Titus Bramble ever has. Upson isn't a great defender but I'd pick him all the time. And I've always said that Heskey is under-rated, he's someone I greatly admire, but really Fab, we don't need him now. Rooney, Cole, Crouch, Owen, Walcott, Defoe, Bent, Agbonlahor, Heskey. Just no.
October 10, 200915 yr Final score: Ukraine 1 v 0 England A much better second half performance that has shown us: - David James is our best goalkeeper - Glen Johnson is great going forward, but a liability at defending - Rio Ferdinand should no longer be an England's 1st choice central defender - We lose our shape up front when our battering ram Heskey is substituted - No one in the England team takes set plays remotely to the level of David Beckham
October 10, 200915 yr Hahaha Rio Ferdinand. What a spoon. There's no way we'll ever win the World Cup with him and John Terry as our first choice centre-backs... ?! Rio is still recovering from an injury, he isn't even in the United starting line up and when he was he couldn't keep with Bellamy to give away the goal that made it 3-3... I'm not really sure why he was playing today, but he's obviously still not in full fitness..

I'm not really sure why he was playing today, but he's obviously still not in full fitness.. Exactly! He's not even fit enough to play for United so why was even in the squad let alone starting?
October 10, 200915 yr ?! Rio is still recovering from an injury, he isn't even in the United starting line up and when he was he couldn't keep with Bellamy to give away the goal that made it 3-3... I'm not really sure why he was playing today, but he's obviously still not in full fitness.. He's played about four games this season and in three of them he's made absolutely horrendous mistakes. The kind of mistakes that any player of any quality should not be making, even if they'd just come back from a three year injury. Some rustiness is fine, but he's been truly awful.
October 11, 200915 yr Author ?! Rio is still recovering from an injury, he isn't even in the United starting line up and when he was he couldn't keep with Bellamy to give away the goal that made it 3-3... I'm not really sure why he was playing today, but he's obviously still not in full fitness.. Maybe, but he's a complete liability. I highly doubt Capello would have played him if he didn't think he was fit enough. He's one of these players that is very overrated imo. Don't get me wrong, he's an excellent defender and I think his positioning is exceptional but he's not as good as a lot of people make him out to be. He has very major concentation lapses that would be a LOT more recognised if he didn't play for a top international and club side. Him and John Terry as our central defenders are not good enough. They're both top players and on paper they're our best central defenders but they just don't function properly as a unit imo. I'd much rather Upson and Terry started personally.
October 14, 200915 yr England v Belarus First Half: What a load of rubbish. Belarus should be ahead if the had a striker of the calibre of Drogba, Torres, etc. Glen Johnson - same old story = great going forward, rubbish at defending. Shaun Wright Phillips & Aaron Lennon wing play, passing and crossing and Frank Lampard's still balls are showing exactly why a fit David Beckham has to be on the plane to South Africa 2010. Otherwise, a very mediocre England performance.
October 15, 200915 yr Author Didn't watch the game, but i'll stick up for Johnson as he gets unfairly criticised for his defending imo. He's not as bad as a lot of people make him out to be, but when he's playing infront of an orthodox winger ala Lennon or SWP he gets no defensive support. Defending is definitely not the strongest part of his game, but he'd decent enough at it, but he just gets no cover when he plays for England. This is why I want either Gerrard or Milner on the right hand side of midfield.
October 15, 200915 yr So the qualified teams are: South Africa, Ghana, Côte D'Ivoire, England, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Serbia, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Australia, North Korea, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Mexico, USA and from yesterday, Slovakia, Switzerland, Argentina and Honduras. France, Russia, Portugal, Bosnia, Slovenia, Greece, Ukraine and Ireland are advancing to the playoffs (the pairings will be known on Monday), Uruguay and Costa Rica will play a two play off matches as well, and Bahrein will play in New Zealand to see which will move on (0-0 in the first leg).
October 15, 200915 yr People can criticise Johnson all the like, but he really is the only option at right back. His attacking qualities do more than make up for anything the likes of Brown or Richards could add to the back, and it's not as if they're great anyway. Johnson is first choice right back, and rightly so. Much rather be taking him to the World Cup than Danny Mills like we did 8 years ago...
October 19, 200915 yr Author The Republic of Ireland will have to beat former World Cup winners France over two legs if they are to make it to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Giovanni Trapattoni's side will contest the tricky play-offs ties against the 1998 champions on 14 and 18 November. Elsewhere, Portugal will play Bosnia-Hercegovina, Greece face Ukraine and Russia come up against Slovenia. The Republic will play their home tie first and then face a momentous task at the Stade de France in Paris. The two sides met in the 2006 World Cup qualifying stages sharing a 0-0 draw in Paris, while a Thierry Henry goal was the difference between the two sides in Ireland
December 12, 200915 yr There absoultely isnt anything about the nationality in waht he said. He meant the style of play as the vast majority of the Irish squad plays in England. Hes expecting a very physical/toug game and doesnt think it is an easy draw as Trappatonis in charge and didnt lose to Italy in their 2 games.
