Posted October 19, 200915 yr First of all, big apologies if it has been asked before. I'm just wondering what has been the closest gap between number 1 and 2 single. This year, I remember Pixie Lott ("Boys and Girls") beating David Guetta ("Sexy Chick") by just over 1000 copies to reach number 1. I know there has been closer gaps, but when was it? I know that there was the tie thing with the Dee-Lite and The Joker song. The Joker song won by pending on sales increase that week. To make things interesting, what has been the farthest gap between number 1 and 2 song (since Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida ("Bad Boys") doubled Robbie Williams' single ("Bodies") to reach number 1)? Apologies again if this has been asked before. Tried searching it on this forum and couldn't find it.
October 19, 200915 yr Foundations by Kate Nash missed the top spot by a very few copies if I remember right.
October 19, 200915 yr Foundations by Kate Nash missed the top spot by a very few copies if I remember right. Yeah, 16 copies in its closest week. Leona's 'A Moment Like This' kept Eric Prydz's 'Physical Education' from #1 by less than 100 copies as well, they're the only two I can remember for now.
October 19, 200915 yr Surely Will Young's 'Evergreen' or 'Candle In The Wind' would have the largest gap with their respective #2s? I think the Nash one is closest unless you want to count the tie break you mentioned.
October 19, 200915 yr did Orson squeeze in to the top or was it a bigger gap than I remembered. I know it was a tragically low selling #1
October 19, 200915 yr The biggest gap was most certainly the one on 21st September, 1997. 1 Elton John - Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind 1997 (1,547,000 copies) 2 Dario G - Sunchyme Not sure what Dario sold, but SATWYLT/CITW'97 selling 1.5m+ that week has to make it the biggest gap.
October 19, 200915 yr did Orson squeeze in to the top or was it a bigger gap than I remembered. I know it was a tragically low selling #1 is it my imagination or did Orson only sell about 18000 copies to get to #1?
October 19, 200915 yr Mariah Carey We Belong Together missed the number 1 also with a very small margin if I remember well.
October 19, 200915 yr is it my imagination or did Orson only sell about 18000 copies to get to #1? I think it was about 17,000. EDIT: 17,694. Edited October 19, 200915 yr by Pmomc Bray

October 19, 200915 yr Ugh Chico. Despite the awful sales, Orson must forever be championed for stopping that creature having more undeserved time at #1.
October 19, 200915 yr 2005: 39627 2 Pac 39235 Mariah Carey (only 392 copies behind!) 2007: 22143 Rihanna 22012 Kate Nash (131 copies behind) 33578 Timbaland 33562 Kate Nash (16 copies behind)
October 19, 200915 yr Ugh Chico. Despite the awful sales, Orson must forever be championed for stopping that creature having more undeserved time at #1. Didn't Orson sell more than 17,964 in the three weeks either side of it hitting #1?

As Candle had sold 1.547m that week that would mean Dario G sold about about 85,000. I think that may be the largest difference in sales between number one and number two...

I think the Nash one is closest unless you want to count the tie break you mentioned.Evergreen sold 1,108,000 against Whenever, Wherever which sold 108,000 that week. A big sales week too, the number 5 (How You Remind Me by Nickelback) sold 54,000 copies. Even Westlife had decent sales, down from #1 to 6 on 51,000 sales...
October 20, 200915 yr Surely Will Young's 'Evergreen' or 'Candle In The Wind' would have the largest gap with their respective #2s? The biggest gap *has* to be whatever was 2nd behind 'Candle In The Wind'.
