Some good news for EE - during the month of January it averaged 10.8 million viewers per first showing of an episode, compared with Corrie's 10.4m, making it the first time that its monthly average has been ahead since December 2005.

In real terms of course EE has been ahead for a while because the BBC3 repeat typically adds 700,000-900,000 more viewers, compared with the 150,000 or so that Corrie's repeat adds, but as I said the monthly averages don't take repeats into account.

This also makes the 'delightful' Kym Marsh look pretty dumb after claiming in her column that Corrie deserved to win the NTA because it gets more viewers!

Very true and as i always said on a weekly basis when repeats etc are all counted in eastenders always beats corrie when everything is added in. The corrie cast always bug me as they foimly believe they are always the best soap regardless of whether it is or not and when they win they always bang on about we are on air for 50 years and stronger and better than ever when we all know that isnt the case. I always find when other soaps win especially individual awards they always comment on how good people from other soaps are it seems the corrie cast are drilled into saying corrie corrie corrie and no one else is better than us and Kyn Marsh is one of the biggest cluprits of doing it.

Alfie? It's a bit bizarre and smacks of desperatism much. The only way I can see them justifying it is if Jessie Wallace is indeed inticed back.

I just don't see what reason Alfie would have for coming back? He's got NO family ties left in the Square.

You're right actually Shoat, he has absloutely zero connection to the Square. Who was he friendly with? They better not bring him back by killing Kat off or something :o
He would be in away connected to the slaters and if he comes back with KAT the storyline will be more than likely kat has left him and he will want the slaters help to win her back, shane i would say is only returning as he hasnt any other work and to me shane comes accross to me as the sort of person who always thinks the grass is greener on the otherside, when will he realise he never see's whats under his nose, eastenders saved him career wise and financilly wise.

Shock shooting drama for 'EastEnders'

Sunday, February 7 2010, 01:30 GMT

EastEnders entrepreneur Jack Branning is to be shot in a shock story twist over the coming months.

The former policeman - played by 38-year-old Scott Maslen - becomes embroiled in the messy misdemeanours of one of the Square's younger residents.

Jack is literally caught in the line of fire, though, when the situation quickly spirals out of control. He's rushed to hospital and his nearest and dearest are left wondering if he'll pull through.

An Albert Square source revealed to DS: "Billie Jackson's back in Walford for a reason - and it soon becomes apparent that he's hiding a gun from his family. Could Billie be responsible? Is somebody else out for revenge? Or is it all an innocent mistake?"

Meanwhile, a Walford insider told the Daily Star on Sunday: "During his time in the square he's made a number of enemies. But it could well be someone from his dodgy past that catches up with him. And then there's his love life. He's slept with sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, as well as their cousin Sam. So there's no reason why it couldn't be a crime of passion..."

An EastEnders spokesperson said: "We never comment on future storylines."

The scenes, filmed recently at the soap's home at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, are due to be screened in late March or early April.

EastEnders celebrates its 25th anniversary on February 19 with its first ever live episode.

Spoiler tags please!

There are only two viable scenarios for an Alfie return:

-With Kat, still together, returning a for a reason - having bought the Vic, or because a Slater is ill/getting married etc.

-Without Kat, who is dead.

Now I don't think they'll kill off Kat off-screen because she's one of the most popularity characters in recent history and they'll want to give her the chance to change her mind even if she doesn't want to come back this year, so I predict that he's coming back with her (especially given how early this was announced). It'll be a bit of a mockery if he comes back either to chase after her because they've split up and he wants to give it another go, or if he comes back alone because she's left him off-screen. They spent too many years on/off for that to happen. They just need to be SOLID now.

I've not seen a firm date for Peggy's exit yet, has anyone? Wonder if they are going to get Alfie back behind the bar.

Can't see Roxy hiring him though lol.

I really hope that Jessie's return is announced, I don't want to think she's dead or they've split!

I sincerley hope you mean Alfie as opposed to Archie. :heehee:

I really want Kat to return! But if they do return; they'll properly just resurface old storylines- Kat and Alfie splitting up, Kat and Alfie getting back together etc.

The worst episode of EastEnders I have watched is the 30 minutes that focused on Alfie looking for a condom for him and Kat. WTF??

I hate Shane Richie and I hate the character of Alfie, erghhh

Well this will shock no-one.

EastEnders favourites Kat and Alfie Moon are to be reunited on screen later this year after the BBC confirmed today that Jessie Wallace is returning to the soap.

The 38-year-old - who was last seen as Walford's tart with a heart Kat Slater on Christmas Day 2005 - recently inked a new deal at the same time as co-star Shane Richie.

On Sunday, show bosses announced that Richie is to make a comeback as loveable rogue Alfie Moon. The news led to immediate speculation that his screen wife Wallace will also return as Kat Slater.

Of her decision to come back, Wallace said: "I've really enjoyed playing different roles over the last few years but am excited to slip back into Kat Slater's stilettos. I've missed her."

Richie commented: "More than anything I'm looking forward to getting my face covered in Kat's lipstick again!"

A Walford source told DS: "Alfie's return wouldn't be the same - or make sense - without Kat. They're a match made in heaven."

Richie and Wallace are due to return to filming later this year and will make their screen reappearance in the autumn.

Last October, Wallace claimed that she missed playing Kat, but insisted that she had "no immediate plans" to return to the BBC's flagship serial.
