Flash Forward slumps to 31 this time, as The Bill slumps further at 32 on 3.78.

Time for the Flashback to...November 1981 (Charts compiled by MRIB)

The Top TV, back then: A shortage of actual ratings figures from then, as hardly any were kept

BBC Programmes:

01 PAUL DANIEL`S MAGIC SHOW (SAT) 16.00...comedy and magic a la Paul & Miss Debbie McGee

02 JULIET BRAVO (SAT)...Stephanie Turner stars as Jean Darbley in the police based drama series

03 THE MOVING TARGET...taken from the Ross MacDonald novel. Lew Archer trys to find a missing oil tycoon

04 LARRY GRAYSON`S GENERATION GAME (SAT) 14.50...Larry in his 4th, and final series of the family game with Isla St Clair

05 WILDLIFE ON ONE (TUES)...David Attenborough on his nature trek

06 ROSIE (MON)...dodgy sitcom about PC Penrose (Paul Greenwood), and his pal PC Wilmot (Tony Haygarth). This, the very last edition...thank God!

07 MASTERMIND (SUN)...Magnus Magnusson introduces the grueling quiz

08 FLAMINGO ROAD...a US Soap based on a 1949 film with Joan Crawford. In vain of "Dallas", & "Knots Landing". This version starred Morgan Fairchild & John Beck

09 TOMORROW`S WORLD (THURS)...the 17th series of the science based look at new gadgets with Kieran Prendiville, Judith Hann, and Maggie Philbin

10 IT`S A KNOCKOUT (FRI) 10.50...the ever laughing Stuart Hall plays host, as the late Eddie Waring keeps track of the score in the treble team contest

ITV Programmes:

01 FILM: JAWS (SAT) 23.30...the first British tv showing of the film

02 CORONATION STREET (MON) 18.80

03 CORONATION STREET (WEDS)

04 THE BENNY HILL SHOW (WEDS) 17.00...The regular 2 month outing for Benny, along with Henry McGee, Jackie Wright, and Hill`s Angels

05 ONLY WHEN I LAUGH (THURS)...The Sitcom, where James Bolam/Peter/Bowles/Christopher Strauli got to stay in Hospital for 4 series!

06 NEVER THE TWAIN (MON) 16.00...Father Of The Groom. Lyn & David get married much to annoyance of Oliver Smallbridge & Simon Peel in the sitcom

07 CROSSROADS (MON)

08 THE MORECAMBE AND WISE SHOW (THURS)...Eric & Ernie, and a carrier bag at the bus stop

09 BULLSEYE (MON) 14.00...Jim Bowen in the super, great, smashing darts based quiz in series one at ATV

10 PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT (FRI)...Bruce Forsyth in series 3 of the game, where you could win £2,000, and a car by predicting the turning of a playing card

I always get asked on the vintage tv thing about the Top Of The Pops ratings...This week in 1981, the show had just over 10million viewers, following Tomorrow`s World on Thursdays at 7.20pm. Although it averaged between 13 & 11million during the whole of 1981. The Christmas Day edition, in which the Radio One DJs (Tommy Vance/Richard Skinner/Peter Powell/Simon Bates/DLT etc picked their favs of 1981, got 14million.

The Bill slips further and further...

Good memories of 1981 - well the music at least! The TV was pretty awful at the time... Only When I Laugh was a one programme joke that ran for years though it managed to be funny at times...

I always thought the "Roy Figgis" character played by James Bolam, was basically "Terry Collier" (of Likely Lads fame) in Hospital!

The top 2 albums from 1981 are excellent, I haven't played Dare in ages, its the best Human League album to date, they are still around but they only do the Here & Now tours with the odd new album every 3 to 4 years. I was a big fan of them early 80s, Sound Of The Crowd, Love Action, Open Your Heart, and their #1 hit Don't You Want Me Baby are just classics, we don't hear good music like them no more.

Physical by Olivia Neutron Bomb  love the video and her dodgy outfit.

Souvenir, Joan Of Arc, Tainted Love CLASSICS Tainted Love my favourite all time #1.

after their fall out in real life, maybe Bob Ferris (Rodney Bewes) put him there! Or more likely Thelma...

I never fully got into The Police - some good songs but an awful lot of rubbish. I thought Ghost In The Machine was a poor album. Dare is an absolute classic though, I had all the singles on 12" plus the album. The last I heard Martin Rushent was working on some tracks that were discarded for the album, I assume it's for a deluxe edition release...

The video for Physical is terrible! ONJ looks as nice as ever but the video looks like it was put together in half an hour on a $5 budget!

I agree Ghost In The Machine was their least favourite album of theirs I wouldn't have called it one of the best but they made it up with their final album Synchronity, and it was the first album with an English title after the brilliant Zenyatta Mondatta. Mind you I was a massive fan of The Police back than they were my favourite band of the 80s along with Blondie, I'm showing my age now.

Yeah, the full out has always been strange. Rodney Bewes reckons it was something to do with the duos billing on the feature film shot in 1976. Rodney got star billing, James did not...but who knows the reason for sure?!

The story I heard was that Bewes was doing an interview in 1976 and mentioned that Bolam's wife was pregnant. Apparently Bolam took exception to this and cut off all contact with Bewes, Bolam apparently didn't like his personal life being made public. Bewes phoned to apologise, Bolam hung up, and that was the last contact the two had. If true then it seems a strange reason to maintain a feud over the years. I can understand Bolam being annoyed but that sort of thing would have son been sorted out.

I also heard that they didn't really have a great relationship on set during the Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads years, so perhaps it was the final straw.

Regardless, Bolam kept the feud running for so long that the more (alledgedly) impoverished members of the cast had to beg with him to allow the series to be released on video to allow them to earn some income, something he continually refused to do for many years until he eventually relented.

OMG! Black eyed peas out of the top 10! :o :o :cheer: :cheer:

God hope they dont get back on sunday

looks like im gonna do really bad in the chart prediction games this week!

No sign of them. But I am actually attending the concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire on 5th Dec. Are you seeing them on the Ireland concerts at all?

I remember hearing that too. Certainly a big row, also blew up with the BBC in 1981, when the entire series was repeated for the first time in 6 years, following the first showing of the film. James, didn`t want it repeated at all. It`s a shame really, when you consider the quality of the acting in the series. I suppose we could say Mr Bolam has done slightly better in his tv work than Mr Bewes, and has hardily been off the small screen since 1973! Rodney was (of course) the first BBC partner of one Basil Brush (although Basil first came to light on ITV, with Howard Williams circa 1965).
