Posted October 26, 200915 yr I couldn't help it, its been on my mind for some time, its about time for something different, I just wish the X Factor winners single could be left alone until the new year, I rather have something different like a festive track, it seems the run up to Xmas is all monopolised with the X Factor brand and Simon's pockets, Leona Lewis, JLS, X Factor 12 charity single, and obviously the X Factor Winners single it looks good on paper sales wise and its British at least but I feel its time for a change, here's hoping for Lady GaGa to fill the slot somewhere in the next 10 weeks.
October 26, 200915 yr I still remember Xmas of 2004 when Kylie, Robbie Bo Selecta Band Aid & Steve Brookstein were all competing..... Now its just a guaranteed X-Factor Number 1

JLS don't line the pockets of Simon Cowell at all. Xmas #1 just isn't special any more, until someone beats the winners single then that one will be super special (hoping for another Steve Brokstein)
October 26, 200915 yr There's a myth which exists about the Xmas number 1. There's been about two good songs in the last 25 years. It has at various times been monopolised by Cliff Richard, ropey Spice Girls, yawn-inducing Westlife, rubbish re-recordings of Band Aid, Mr Blobby + Bob The Builder etc. The X-Factor and Pop idol before it merely continued the trend.
October 26, 200915 yr This decades Christmas #1. 2000 Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? 2001 Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman - Somethin' Stupid 2002 Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground 2003 Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules - Mad World 2004 Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas? 2005 Shayne Ward - That's My Goal 2006 Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This 2007 Leon Jackson - When You Believe 2008 Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah Bolded the ones I like
October 26, 200915 yr To be fair, yes, but I don't really mind. The #2 (or #3 if #2 is another X single etc.) is the 'real' Xmas #1.

October 26, 200915 yr And the fact that 3 of them aren't charity or reality TV and even then just two of them have nothing to do with TV at all is a sad state of affairs
October 26, 200915 yr I really hope this doesn't reach #1, though if it has to, hopefully only for 1 week, then Leona can return to the top of the charts with her single.
October 26, 200915 yr Personally it doesn't really bother me. me neither. if the song is good i do not mind.
October 26, 200915 yr I have to agree Martin, i used to love tuning into the countdown not knowing what was gonna be the festive Number 1 but it's just a bore now really. Need someone like Lady Gaga or a modern day artist to record a real feelgood festive tune to rival it, but it still wouldn't stand a chance me thinks :(

October 26, 200915 yr I think we need Geraldine McQueen to re-release her Xmas song or release a new one.
October 26, 200915 yr Don't worry everyone, GaGa is here to save the charts PolcJd2eh-w :music: Pure brilliance
October 26, 200915 yr I think we need Geraldine McQueen to re-release her Xmas song or release a new one. 'her'?
October 26, 200915 yr Steve Brookstein's single wasn't actually released in Christmas week. Reached #2 on 26th December '04, which was the last week of the year. Then it climbed to #1 on 2nd January '05 to claim the first #1 of the year. Seems odd in hindsight that they went for the week after the Christmas chart. I don't really mind the X Factor #1s. In fact I like Shayne, Leona and Alexandra's winning songs... even Leon's I found okay. If X Factor didn't exist, these would have been the Christmas #1s since 2005. Personally, I think these are all worse! 2005 Nizlopi - JCB Song (2nd week on sale, #1 for 2nd week) 2006 Take That - Patience (6th week on sale, #1 for 5th week) 2007 Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua - Wonderful World (2nd week on sale, #1 for 2nd week) 2008 Beyonce - If I Were A Boy (7th week on sale, #1 for 3rd week) - taking into account X Factor Finalists wouldn't have prevented her from #1 in first week. Its interesting that over the last 4 years, the nearest 'normal' contender for #1 was not a new release in that week. Edited October 26, 200915 yr by -Jay-
