October 26, 200915 yr I don't know about the rest but for 2008 then if X Factor didn't exist IIWAB wouldn't have recieved the boost that it got from a performance on there and as a result wouldn't have been #1 Edited October 26, 200915 yr by Bibliotheque
October 26, 200915 yr The x-factor releases normally have a nice wintery ballad vibe about them. Plus like somebody else pointed out earlier on in the thread, really, how many good christmas #1's have we really had? x-factor ruining christmas is just another way for people to complain about the show.

So even further down, #5 was Geraldine's Once Upon A Christmas Song... but then you could argue this character of Peter Kay's would not even exist if it wasn't for The X Factor, LOL. #6 was James Morrison's Broken Strings, this receiving a boost from The Girls Aloud Party show. I don't think it even matters who is #1 really. Usually any number of songs released around the Christmas period will remind of Christmas in years to come, doesn't have to be the one that was #1. :D

Agree with this. There have been some terrible xmas No.1s in the past, I think the choices (Simon makes  ) have been good so far, although not to keen on covers of 'well known' songs they've all had a seasonal-ish sound to them, which is what we need at that time of year!! Leona's was perfect for her, and in my eyes an orginal, as I have no interest in Kelly Clarkson (or any US Idol winner <_< )
October 26, 200915 yr I wonder what he Children In Need song will be this year? EDIT: It is this apparently Edited October 26, 200915 yr by Just Plain Steve
October 26, 200915 yr Dear god that Children In Need song is atrocious. (sp)?. I'd rather The X Factor than that. Forget Paolo Nutini this is the worst song of the year Edited October 26, 200915 yr by tom03
October 26, 200915 yr Of course- its just not surprising anymore because of X factor- nothing else stands a chance anymore I respect Simon Cowell, but he does annoy me by releasing utter rubbish that clogs up the charts at christmas, it doesnt give any new artists a chance, it prevents good songs getting high and ruins the surprise element
October 26, 200915 yr No big deal to me, no one is forcing anyone to buy the X Factor winners single it is just market forces, if it gets to #1 it gets to #1
October 26, 200915 yr Don't worry everyone, GaGa is here to save the charts PolcJd2eh-w :music: Is that for real? That would be one of the best xmas songs for the 21st century!
October 26, 200915 yr Is that for real? That would be one of the best xmas songs for the 21st century! It was added last year, so I doubt it's something she'd release this year :(
October 26, 200915 yr Yeah, they made it last year and released it digitally in selected territories. I wonder if it will get a UK release this year. You never know, a years repression could be the trick :magic:
October 26, 200915 yr With viewing figures increasing year on year without fail for the X Factor and its associated singles grip on the charts is only going to get stronger. The Christmas chart battle was traditional and on many occasions went down to the wire. It generated lots of interest in the charts, engaging with people who didn’t generally take much notice, which made the accolade special. Now of course it is a foregone conclusion that the X Factor winner’s insipid cover will prevail; as the Cowell money making juggernaut milks the busiest sales week of the year, for all it’s worth. :/
October 26, 200915 yr I think we need Geraldine McQueen to re-release her Xmas song or release a new one. Totally agree, I loved OUACS.
October 26, 200915 yr This decades Christmas #1. 2000 Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? 2001 Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman - Somethin' Stupid 2002 Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground 2003 Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules - Mad World 2004 Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas? - this is the worst of the noughties so far! 2005 Shayne Ward - That's My Goal 2006 Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This 2007 Leon Jackson - When You Believe 2008 Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah The ones in bold are the only ones that are decent. The one in bold & italic is my one of my favourites EVER - I like it even better than the original. All of the others are just awful ... even Leona's. She more than made up for it with Bleeding Love though so she did redeem herself! Norma
October 26, 200915 yr I agree it would be better if they left it till January like they did with Michelle McManus.
October 26, 200915 yr There's a myth which exists about the Xmas number 1. There's been about two good songs in the last 25 years. It has at various times been monopolised by Cliff Richard, ropey Spice Girls, yawn-inducing Westlife, rubbish re-recordings of Band Aid, Mr Blobby + Bob The Builder etc. The X-Factor and Pop idol before it merely continued the trend. thats a good point actually :) its not only the crimbo #1 its ruining, but chart music in general. ok its great tv if you like hyped up baying crowds at a karaoke contest, but when these acts start to dominate the charts it aint good for music. oops...too late! lol
