PERFECT. I was getting worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations but this has actually succeeded them! I am hoping this is a good taster of what the album will sound like, outstanding.

This has had Radio 1 airplay.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! I REPEAT MKS HAVE BEEN PLAYED ON RADIO 1, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

Some webreaction:

Look we don't really know what this is.

We know it is based on a sort of 'interpolation' of Kendrick Lamar's 'Swimming Pools (Drank)'.

We know Mutya Keisha Siobhan are on it, singing a bit of a song that isn't one of the seven or eight new ones we've heard so far.

We know Dev Hynes, with whom MKS were recently working, just tweeted a link to it, having put it on his SoundCloud page earlier this afternoon.

Beyond that we don't know if it's a single, or if the MKS original bit will come out as a song in its own right, or if Dev actually produced this, or what. "Just finished recording new music with Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan," is what Dev does say on his SoundCloud page. "And the girls felt like having a bit of fun at the end of the last session - enjoy!!

But we do know that their voices sound jolly pleasant, so that's nice. There's still a strong whiff of Get On With It hanging over the whole thing, of course, but it's good to know that they're at least capable of finishing a song.

"Just finished recording new music with Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan and the girls felt like having a bit of fun at the end of the last session - enjoy!!" That's Blood Orange's Dev Hynes, who has apparently been in the studio with the three original members of UK pop group Sugababes recording material for their forthcoming album. It's only their second together following 2000's One Touch-- each member left the band one by one over the ensuing decade.

Hynes' presence isn't obvious on this quasi-cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and it's probably not going to appear on MKS' new album, but everything here clicks into place. The band's voices sound glorious together, and they've even given Kendrick's lyrics a personal touch-up, singing about pleasing themselves in life and music ("I have found where I wanna be/And all around where I tread/Are the sounds I found for the love of me")-- perhaps a delicate "f*** you" to the machinations that drove the Sugababes in their various forms into the ground. They also flip the original's gender pronouns to sing about how "the boys wanna play Baywatch" around their booze pool, reminding us just how good prime-era Sugababes were at showing how intimidating and dominant a group of women can be in a club.

Having spent last month in LA recording with Dev Hynes and power ballad supremo Diane Warren, it's widely assumed new music from the original Sugababes (now recording under the slightly more prosaic moniker of Mutya Keisha Siobhan) is on its way. In the meantime Dev has plonked a new song, Lay Down in Swimming Pools, on his SoundCloud page. "Just finished recording new music with Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan and the girls felt like having a bit of fun at the end of the last session – enjoy!!" he explains. Built around Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pools (Drank) single, it showcases Mutya's unmistakable deep rumble of a voice on the verses and some New Year-level harmonies on the final chorus. Whether this is a single, an album track, a new song encased in a sample that will be used elsewhere or just something they felt like doing for giggles isn't clear, but it's nice to have them back.

Original Sugababes line-up Mutya Keisha Siobhan have realised a track entitled Lay Down In Swimming Pools, which has a freestyle feel to it and samples Kendrick Lamar.

The trio, who were were replaced in Sugababes by Amelle Berrabah, Jade Ewen and Heidi Range, have been in LA recently with Dev Hynes (aka Lightspeed Champion) recording new tracks together.

An album is expected at some stage, but to whet fans’ appetite until then Hynes posted a quick cover Mutya Keisha Siobhan (that never gets easier to say) created at the end of a studio session.

He wrote on Soundcloud: ‘Just finished recording new music with Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan and the girls felt like having a bit of fun at the end of the last session – enjoy!!’

The track samples Swimming Pools, one of the most popular tracks from rapper Kendrick Lamar’s celebrated Good Kid M.A.A.D City album, and features each of the girls singing a verse over the brooding beat.

It is not clear whether the track will be released as a single or appear on the album, but it has already received Radio 1 airplay.

!!!

It was played in the last hour of Nick Grimshaw's show today! :D

Was just about to say that I just saw on my Facebook feed from their official account that it had been played in the breakfast show.

Thanks for playing our mash-up Lay Down In Swimming Pools BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show! So happy that you love it!!
They should release this as a buzz track. I've only read positive things about this wherever I look! And it's incredible, just as good if not better than the original!

Wow.

I had the bar set pretty high, and they have smashed it! If this is what wasn't good enough for the album, then seriously BRING IT ON

It's not really the sort of direction I want them going in for the album, but as a standalone track it is pretty solid! Their vocals are definitely on form.

same thoughts.

NME and Q have come out in universal praise for this.

Critical success from all of the places that lavished praise on One Touch and Freak! Radio 1 airplay for a track that isn't even going to be on the album as well. They are going to slay this year!

Another Radio1 playing today then  They are going to end up releasing this to iTunes soon just to satisfy the demand
I was worried they'd struggle before this, but radio seem HUNGRY for it.

I think everyone with girls included is tired of waiting. Release a free promo single or something - just something! The teasing has gone beyond any borders of boredom now.

A free single? Freedom style?

Well we've had those couple of tracks they've covered and featured

on and the acapella clip if they count :P

I am excited for their lead single though :D

As much as I have been stanning 4.0 lately I still wanna hear 1.0 :D

They so should have called themselves Origibabes though! Hopefully that will become their media nickname :P At least the name 'Mutya Keisha Siobhan' isn't going to be used by different people if one of them quits lol
