December 6, 200915 yr Author the top 50 has these year by year stats; 2000 - 10 2001 - 5 2002 - 6 2003 - 4 2004 – 7 2005 - 3 2006 - 3 2007 - 4 2008 - 4 2009 - 4 :o incredible, I can't believe it! a fifth of the top 50 from the first year of the decade!?! The largely awful 2004 is ridiculously highly represented with 7 songs, whilst 2006, which I regard as my favourite year of the noughties, has the least entries in the countdown!!! how bizarre, all it proves is that some years were generally high standard but with only a few real standouts whilst others were so bad that it perhaps made the good songs standout even more!?!

December 6, 200915 yr 59. Ian Van Dahl - Will I? - 2001 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) Following the success of Castles In The Sky, led by guest vocalist Marsha, regular Ian Van Dahl singer, Annemie took over her duties of fronting the Belgian dance act for the second single. Will I was a much more upbeat poppier affair than its predecessor, short and sweet at only two and a half minutes along, but instantly catchy and a worthy successor to Castles...The song was another big hit in the UK, staying in the top ten for quite a few weeks over the busy Christmas 2001 period. I remember being absolutely obsessed with it at the time, and it's still a fantastic Eurodance song. 5Kzh3Sz8kFs 56. Daniel Powter - Bad Day - 2005 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) Canadian singer/songwriter Daniel Powter would have been the star of summer 2005 if not for his English counterpart James Blunt, whose You're Beautiful always seemed to be one step ahead of Daniel's Bad Day. Between them, they created probably two of my favourite songs of summer 2005, a time period that saw a sudden surge in great music after a largely terrible two years between summer 2003 and summer 2005. A fantastic piano ballad about something that we can all relate to, the song was oddly uplifting at the same time, particularly if listening whilst watching the video. Only a #2 hit here because of James Blunt, it was nevertheless one of the defining European anthems of 2005 and went on to top the US charts in 2006. Shame Daniel was a one hit wonder because both of his albums were actually surprisingly good!!! Love those two tracks. 54. Nerina Pallot - Everybody's Gone To War - 2006 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) I recall first hearing this song at work a number of times during 2005, when I just assumed it was a Sheryl Crow track - I loved it, but dismissed looking further into it. So when the following year I heard that it was the comeback single by Nerina Pallot, who I had had a brief interest in circa 2001 and her debut album, Dear Frustrated Superstar, I was intrigued, and bought her album, Fires, which had come out in 2005, straight away. The album was re-released soon after, and the songs were given a fresh lick of paint to make them more commercial sounding, but both versions of the album are great. A hugely underrated British talent, Nerina is incredibly well spoken and charming, I even saw her live in a church in Brighton once!!! This song had a brilliant supermarket wars video where she looked very good, not too dissimilar from Jennifer Love Hewitt in face!!! A great, powerful pop song which should have been a far bigger hit. 53. Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone - 2005 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 1 week) I didn't have a great interest in Kelly Clarkson's first few singles to be honest but in early 2005, I first heard her new single, Since U Been Gone, and I was blown away to say the least. Ushering in a the pop-rock boom that has been so prevalent in the last five years, the 2002 American Idol winner went onto have her biggest hit (at that point) in the UK with this song and deservedly so. A fantastic sing-a-long track, absolutely amazing to watch live in concert (I've seen her twice!) - it also led the Breakaway album, which I shall go into more when it features in my top 50 albums of the decade countdown. Since U Been Gone is one of the decade's defining pop songs. 51. Groove Armada feat Mutya - Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) - 2007 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 1 week) Founding member Mutya Buena left the Sugbabes in late 2005 and took a break before launching into her solo career in 2007. Debut solo single, Real Girl, which sampled Lenny Kravitz, was nice enough and a huge hit, but the general feeling and hype was that the stunning electro pop song Song 4 Mutya, a collaboration with dance act Groove Armada, which first surfaced in early 2007 to the amazement of just about everyone who heard it, would be her biggest hit and a massive #1 in summer 2007. Unfortunately, despite extensive airplay the song didn't connect with the public quite as well as hoped, thanks largely to one of the worst, cheapest looking music videos of the decade, and the song limped up to a #8 peak despite easily being one of the highlights of 2007. For me, it's better than any Sugababes single, and shows the true potential that Mutya, who was always my favourite Sugababe vocally, has, that is unlikely to be seen again judging by her more recent solo work. Everybody's gone to war is amazing. The supermarket video is hilarious. I'd love if that happened at work, i'd hide in the raw room and fling chicken out from behind the safety of the oven  SYBG - love love love, MLWSWY is my fave Kelly track tho. Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) - sensational, stunning, amazing............. I love this song so much, i'd love her ad-libs at the end to go on for longer, and of course for that video to FOAD. The song had so much potential for the greatest video ever. 2nd only to what my imagination has concocted for Every Heart Broken. Vocally this woman can do no wrong. [for me anyway] Luckily she's sacked the management and solo album #2 is in progress :cheer: all we need now is for a record label to sign her an not screw her over like Island did.

December 6, 200915 yr I never liked Will I Ever :o Thought it was by far her cheesiest song. The Lonely One and Celebrate are much better imo I do have a strong liking for Will I, think it may be my favorite from IVD, lovely vocal trance.

December 7, 200915 yr Author 50. Spiller feat Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) - 2000 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) Easily the most interesting and hyped up chart battle of the noughties is when Spice Girl Victoria Beckham aka 'Posh Spice' released her debut solo single, Out Of Your Mind, on the same week as real posh girl Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Whilst Out Of Your Mind was an average and now long forgotten garage track which was overhyped due to Victoria's appearance on it, Groovejet by Sophie, and Italian dance producer Spiller was a glorious house track which is still a radio favourite today and was easily one of the best of the 42 UK #1's of 2000!!! Sophie won the battle, and seemingly won the war as well!!! 49. Alice Deejay - The Lonely One - 2000 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 1 week) Will I Ever was Alice Deejay's biggest commercial success of the noughties, but that accolade really should have gone to its successor, The Lonely One. A thumping trance song, a lot less of an obvious single than its more poppy predecessors, The Lonely One unfortunately only got to #16 in the UK but reminds me, like so many other songs do, why 2000 was probably the best ever year for commercial dance. Tacky Clubland tracks rule the late 00's and looped house covers of 80's songs dominated the middle of the decade but the early noughties were home to original and interesting, lively dance songs - Alice Deejay never released a cover version and this was part of their huge charm. Five excellent singles, one stunning album - possibly my favourite dance act of all time. hGkXzV8XfBE 48. Kelly Llorenna - Tell It To My Heart - 2002 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) If there was ever an act I was more obsessed with than Alice Deejay, that accolade would go to Northern dance diva Kelly Llorenna!!! The peak of her very long career - 20 years so far! - was around 2001/2002 when she hit the UK top 20 five times with Set You Free, True Love Never Dies, Tell It To My Heart, Forever and Heart Of Gold, all of which were excellent. Her Taylor Dayne cover Tell It To My Heart was easily her biggest solo hit, a fantastic reworking of an already brilliant song, head and shoulders above most of the other tacky 2002 80's covers due to the brilliant production and Kelly's power-house vocals. A classic. 47. Delta Goodrem - Out Of The Blue - 2004 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) If there was ever an act I was more obsessed with than Alice Deejay and Kelly Llorenna, it's easily Australian singer Delta Goodrem. Her second, but not last, entry in the countdown is the hugely underrated Out Of The Blue. Maybe not the strongest choice of lead single from second album Mistaken Identity, it was nonetheless a joyous swaying piano pop affair which bought a much needed touch of class into the dire UK charts at the time. Piano ballads were the last thing that was popular in 2004 and Delta was seemingly heading the genre all on her own (well apart from Everytime by Britney Spears!!!). A gorgeous song that she performed an excellent new rendition of at her recent Believe Again tour (probably better than the single version), it went top ten in the UK, like all but one of her singles did but she remained anonymous to most. c9k0SJZCPCI 46. Natasha Bedingfield - These Words - 2004 Personal chart peak: #1 (for 4 weeks) If ever there was anybody who breathed new life into the dying pop genre in 2004, it was Natasha Bedingfield. Having been underwhelmed by debut single, Single, These Words completely changed my opinion of Natasha. A brilliant ode to writing a hit song became a huge hit in itself when the chirpy pop song stormed in at #1 in the UK, easily the best chart topper of 2004. The great quirky video of Natasha's doodling becoming a reality was sadly scrapped for the US, who got a slightly more boring video, which nonetheless gave her a big hit there - one of the few UK stars to have a clutch of hit singles in the US in the noughties, I hope we haven't seen the last of Natasha in the UK because despite releasing a shocking comeback single here in 2007 - I Wanna Have Your Babies - her 2008 US material, for example the top 5 hit there, Pocketful Of Sunshine, was as good as anything she had released here in her glory period.
