So do any of you want to comment or predict which albums will feature highly or not in my countdown?

So starting off with the worst 20 studio albums I have bought this decade:

#20 Goldfrapp - Supernature (2005)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDFRAPP.JPG

Any album that starts off with an opening track / lead single (Ooh La La) that sounds like an attempt to channel Marc Bolan but ends up more Alvin Stardust doing an inferior rip off of Rachel Stevens - Some Girls is in trouble. Coming from an act who had previously released two wonderful albums, this relatively commercial album of sub standard Kylie-esque tracks left me feeling cold and depressed.

#19 The Feeling - Join With Us (2008)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/FEELING07.JPG

After releasing a great debut album of melodic power pop; this UK band followed it up with a sophomore slump of an album. Not a bad album to listen to, but a largely unmemorable one due to the lack of melodies and hooks that made the debut a pleasure.

#18 Kaiser Chiefs - Off With Their Heads (2008)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN144CD.JPG

This Leeds based act are a classic example of decreasing returns syndrome. This third album suggested they were running out of ideas fast. Mark Ronson's production made little impact in changing their sound from the first two albums.

#17 U2 - No Line On The Horizon (2009)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1796035.JPG

In 2000 this Irish four-piece reclaimed their crown as the biggest and best band in the world; in 2009 they released their weakest album IMHO since 1981's October. Bar the track Magnificient this album was largely a borefest which merely confirmed that they were now the new Rolling Stones (past their sell by date creatively, but still great live), as the likes of Coldplay and The Killers do Absolute Rock anthemic anthems far better now. The lead single Get On Your Boots was as hideous as hypocrite Irish tax dodger Bono going on about Third World debt sucking up to world leaders.

#16 Kate Nash Made Of Bricks (2007)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1743143.JPG

Hands up who else was fooled into buying this album due to the sheer brilliance of Foundations only to find over the half the album was rubbish no Laura Marling folk or irritating sub Victoria Wood piano parody ditties? Still track 8 was aptly named....

#15 Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium (2006)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9362442222.JPG

A piece of advice for any musos out there: If you are going to release a double CD worth of material make damn sure there are a strong set of songs with a diverse variety of musical ideas, and tempos and sounds. Don't release an album with a drab Rick Rubin production where all of the songs seem to merge into one, bar the Tom Petty rip off lead single Dani California.

#14 Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns (2008)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1785259.JPG

This fifth album from this Northern Irish act was a huge let down, coming after the rather good Final Straw & Eyes Open albums suggesting this Absolute Rock worshipped guitar anthemic rock act was running out of ideas. Thankfully their new single (Just Say Yes) from their forthcoming career retrospective suggests Gary Lightbody & co have rediscovered their creativity.

#13 All Saints - Studio 1 (2006)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3784412.JPG

I feel a bit mean including this in the countdown as I only spent £1.99 on buying the album. Which is about all it is worth. Bar the wonderful comeback single Rock Steady this album really is surprisingly slim pickings (there is nothing else on the album close to the greatness of Appleton - Don't Worry or Shaznay Lewis - Never Felt Like This Before) and only highlights how impressive Take That's comeback has been.

#12 Lily Allen - Alright, Still (2006)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3670282.JPG

The best way to describe this album IMHO is "The singles = all killer, the rest = all filler". I can still feel the disappointment of being duped when I bought this album first week only to release that there are only four good tracks on it, as the non singles track sound like annoying Mockney bird doing her poor geezer Ian Dury attempt over sub The Streets backing music. Thank goodness her second album was a good as this album was so poor. Not the last Mercury Music Award nominated album in this countdown.

#16 Kate Nash Made Of Bricks (2007)

I own these so far. Although I LOVE Kate Nash's album and I Like Snow Patrol's and Lily's. Although Lily's is very overrated. I've heard The Feelings second album, and I must agree. MAJOR letdown.

#11 REM - Around The Sun (2004)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9362493152.JPG

After over 20 years of not getting close to making a bad album, the Athens, Georgia alternative rockers dropped this clanger of mediocrity that had little to recommend it. Even music critics who seemingly by the unwritten law of music journalism struggled to justify this album getting 3 Star reviews... Like the latest U2 album it was rather low tempo, glacial sounding and lacking in hooks and melodies = dull.

#10 Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion (2007)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MIKALIFEPRECD.JPG

Why did I buy this album? Yes, lead single Grace Kelly was a glorious mix of Freddie Mercury meets Scissor Sisters meets Rufus Wainwright, but the actual album cover should have been taken as a warning for the hyper over theoatrical, over camp, over annoying music on the rest of the CD. The musical equivalent of having a party of 6 year old children running round your house after each drinking a whole bottle of Sunny Delight. Makes me want to have a lie down in a dark room and listen to Nick Drake as an antidote.

#09 Orson - Bright Idea (2006)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9877384.JPG

Yet another album bought in error after a hearing a brilliant lead single (No Tomorrow). This Hollywood pop-quintet would never had got me to hand over my cash if music streaming sites (Spotify or We7) existed back then. The fact they went on to write for the likes of the Saturdays says it all really.

Surprised about Kate Nash and Mika in here. But totally agree about Kaiser Chiefs. Yours Truly Angry Mob is just like the opposite: brilliant album.

#08 Stereophonics - You Gotta Go There To Come Back (2003)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VVR1026342.JPG

A strange album in so far that the singles (Maybe Tomorrow, Madame Helga, Moviestar & Since I Told You It's Over) by the Welsh rockers are pretty good, but the rest of the album is laboured, uninspired pub rock at its most dullest which sounds as enjoyable to record as it is to listen to.

#07 Verve - Forth (2008)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE07.JPG

I was delighted when I heard Richard Ashcroft had reformed his old Wigan based BritPop band. Their triumphant performance at Glastonbury and the lead single (Love Is Noise) suggested they were going to pick up where the left off ..... but oh dear after the first three tracks the album is an atmospheric underwhelming dirge closer in quality to Richard Ashcroft's patchy solo career and nowhere near the greatness of the 1990s Urban Hymns & A Northern Soul albums.

#06 Robbie Williams - Intensive Care (2005)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3418232.JPG

His first album since splitting with tunesmith/songwriter Guy Chambers, saw the "Rich beyond his wildest dreams" former fat dancer out of Take That team up with Stephen Duffy. As a result an album of competent but bland material was produced that was not as good as either Robbie's previous output with Chambers' nor Duffy's (solo or the folk influenced the Lilac Time). The awful cod Sting reggae track Tripping and the last single from the album Sin Sin Sin summed up how poor this album was for me. Bar the album track (the very Lilac Time-esque) The Trouble With Me, Robbie's increasingly arrogant and insincere lyrics came across as unlikeable as Danyl Johnson on X-Factor. Little wonder a fall from grace with the public and media was around the corner ....

The only ones I'd argue with is 'Supernature' which I think is a great commercial pop album and 'Alright, Still' which was a good enough album, with only 2 or 3 filler songs on it.

'Stadium Arcadium' would easily be in my top 5 worst. It's absolutely dreadful.

#05 Manic Street Preachers - Know Your Enemy (2001)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5018802.JPG

On this 2001 album the Welsh alternative rockers went political and (unfortunately) came up with their own equivalent of the pretentious misfiring Clash - Sandinista album. Give credit where credit is due they tried a load of different ideas on this album ..... its such a pity that few of them worked. But I think the quality control on this lengthy album can best be summed up by being the only album in my entire collection where the hidden track is by far the best track on the album.

Manic Street Preachers - We Are All Bourgeois Now

#04 Paul McCartney - Driving Rain (2001)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5355102.JPG

Hands up, who wants an album of love songs to Heather Mills? This album has deservedly been nicknamed by MaCCa/Beatles fans as "Drivel Vain" for good reason because it is Paul McCartney at his worst - lazy, trite lyrics and under developed musical ideas as naff as his Heather influenced dyed hair and use of botox. The former Beatle has always created his best work when he has something to prove. Thankfully the media coverage in the aftermath of his disastrous second marriage to the "Geordie gold digger" ensured the rest of his output in this decade would be far far better.

#03 Kylie Minogue - X (2007)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDKMX.JPG

Not necessarily the third worst album I've bought this decade, but it deserves this low placing for knowing what tracks she allegedly rejected for the album (Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor, Marc Almond - Kitsche, Scissor Sister - White Diamond, Mylo - I'm In The Mood For Love, Boy George/Amanda Ghost - I'm Ready and further unspecified tracks by the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Siobhan Fahey, Goldfrapp & Sneaky Sound System). Knowing some of the tracks she rejected yet she found room for the hideous Nu-Di-Ty & Heart Beat Rock. Whilst not coming back with The One as the lead single suggests that her sister is better at judging than she is. In retrospect the Goldfrapp pastiche Two Hearts was not such a bad choice as a lead single with the video being a clear tribute to unlikely long time mentor David Bowie (who has equally suffered his own serious health issues away from the public eye)

Kylie Minogue - White Diamond (X album out-take)

#02 Madonna - Hard Candy (2008)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MADONNA07.JPG

It had to happen sometime, but after 25 years Madonna finally made a terrible album of uninspired urban pop music produced by Timbaland, Timberlake, The Neptunes, and Nate "Danja" Hills, that suggested that instead of leading the pack of female pop artists she had fallen behind Britney, Xtina, Nelly, P!nk, Gwen ..... Little wonder Britney Spears hailed herself as the Queen of Pop on her next album (Circus) because this album amounts to an abdication which the new tracks on her Celebration: Greatest Hits album suggests could be permanent.

loads of albums I love in here :( Lily, Mika, Kate Nash, All Saints are amongst my favourites

I liked Kylie's X but it was a bit of an identity crisis, I felt like I was listening to a load of songs thrown together with no cohesion or tracklist planning whatsoever

Body Language however was ten times worse in my opinion, terrible album

And the worst album that I bought this decade is a former Mercury Music Award winning album ..........

#01 Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future (2007)

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KLAXONSPRECD.JPG

What can I say except I think this album is horrific. The lyrics are bobbins; the production has way too much treble. I think you need to be taking certain substances to enjoy it. Their cover of Grace's Not Over Yet is hideous. Nu Rave was an horrific musical concept nearly as bad as Emo. Yet "trendy" Radio 1 and NME's Conor McNicholas bummed the album, most offensively when he was on the Mercury Music Award panel when this album shocking beat Bats For Lashes - Fur and Gold and Amy Winehouse - Back To Black. This album is a triumph of style over content which bar the outstanding Golden Skans, Gravity's Rainbow and the alright Atlantis To Interzone is awful. If you seriously think this is a great album then I think "you must be out of your brilliant mind" as I agree with former Furniture singer/songwriter turned music writer for Melody Maker, Mojo, The Word and The Times Jim Irvin famously who gave the album a one star review.

For me this album can be best summed up by the brilliant pi$$take.

The Mighty Boosh - Eels

"Elements of the past and future combined to make something not quite as good as either..."

I adored Kate Nash's album! :( Kylie's X was pretty good too.

Madonna's 'Hard Candy' was pretty $h!t though.

Nothing i'll disagree with you too much on. Kate had some good songs on hers though imo and I am rather fond of X. I've never listened to Supernature but I do like the singles from it more than the majority of Goldfrapp's other material.

I like both these albums :( 'Life In Cartoon Motion' is an amazing, pure pop album. I also loved Orson's album. Their follow up was shit though. I haven't heard it in a while though...
