I would never expect Leona to reach the same with Echo - just cos overall album sales have dropped considerably this year, but i thought she might get similar sales to JLS/Robbie

Me too, this is LOW in anyway and her fans can tell whatever they wants.

I was pointing out to someone yesterday how remarkable last week's sales for both acts were when they were criticising Robbie for failing to get to #1. Given the current climate where sales of albums for top end acts in particular have collapsed, it's remarkable that Robbie would have been #1 in 143 of the previous 150 weeks beaten only by Take That's massive 4 weeks in December last year, Coldplay's first week at #1 with Viva and Leona's best two weeks with Spirit.

In fact 240k in this climate is simply stunning for both acts and due credit really hasn't been forthcoming.

For Leona to come close to matching that off the back of an underwhelming single (compare 220k for Bleeding Love v 85k for Happy in a much stronger singles climate now - and BL was still selling over 110k in week 3) and much less promo compared to the build up to Spirit would have surprised me.

Oh and I forgot... Echo will obviously fight for no1 this week. And this means it is also possible that it loses to Jls or RKTVS! It's going to be a triple thriller this week because all 3 albums may sell 140-160 copies! ( just imagine Echo debuting at no3! nightmare :naughty: )

MW mid report added to page 1

Not answering requests myself this week, I want a break.

And I don't want a repeat of last week, so keep it on topic.

I think Leona's album sales are lower than most of us (if not all of us) would have assumed, but we've been spoiled with huge sales in the last month. Leona not achieving the highest sales of all is different to what we became used to with her debut album. This could not be called a flop though. In its own right without comparing to a select few, midweek #1 and 50k shifted is still fantastic.
Perhaps Leona has managed to become a worldwide accepted singer rather than an XF toy, but it costed her a lot of XF fanbase who now have new XF toys to play with. I dont see her selling more than 160k this week

Couldn't agree more. LL has moved away from XF and is now an accepted mainstream talent. Sales will reflect this and the hard work needed to stay ahead of the game really kicks in. Kelly Clarkson's another good example.

XF audience now have Cheryl and all the teenage girls have JLS now that Westlife and Take that are all grown up !!

I know what you mean and yes those sales were remarkable, and its simply stupid to say Robbie flopped - as its just a number, whereas the sales are massive no matter what. The problem is that this time last month - people would put their houses on Leona having the fastest selling album of the year, and to be honest, i really didn't think the underperformance of Happy would have an effect on the album, bearing in mind that Take That still sold a million in a record amount of time, even though Greatest Day did well, but not amazing

How has she moved away from the xfactor when she was on the damn thing last week being asked what it was like to be back?

Just because Spirit was a overnight success, I never expected Echo to fly off on the back of Spirit, how can you follow an album like Spirit though its huge.

In my opinion 50k for her second album is pretty normal for a follow up album after her debut, it was never going to break the first week sales of Spirit.

And that piece of crap at #1 in the singles chart is frontloaded, I reckon it will end on sales of 180-200k

How has she moved away from the xfactor when she was on the damn thing last week being asked what it was like to be back?

I expect they mean without the hype of being the current winner.

Greatest Day was still a big #1 and more importantly a huge radio hit leading up to the album release - it was still A-listed by Radio 1 in January 5-6 weeks after they were knocked off the top of the singles chart - whereas Happy just simply hasn't achieved that. They also released in the prime 4 weeks of the year and had really re-established their brand after the incredible two year success of the previous album and tour. They backed this by being able to concentrate on intensive UK-only promo and were happily supported in this by both BBC and ITV.

It's surprising how little promo Leona has done in the UK - X-Factor and Paul O'Grady are the only things worth mentioning. There's not even been a Live Lounge in the week of album release or a T4 album special.

I certainly wouldn't have put my house on it being the fastest selling album of the year and trawling Leona threads it's obvious many of the fans were expecting 150-200k.

I think we need a bit less hype, and a bit more sober analysis at times.

But she is still an x-factor winner and is 100% associated with the show. I don't see what being the most recent winner has to do with anything.

Didn't Mikey ask that we don't have a repeat of last week and keep it on topic ? :offtopic: Sorry Mikey.

But while we are off topic......... My meaning and that of 7thdreamer (I assume) who I was agreeing with is that XF audience now have new toys (Cheryl, JLS and the XFF for example) and Leona is treated now by the XF fans as just another artist whether she appears on the show for publicity (as Beyonce, Shakira, Robbie, BEP, Bubble and loads of others) or not.

She is no longer 'of the moment' for XF fans so sales will be lower.... similar to other artists but boosted by good promo oppurtunities.

I think XF Finalists will sell about 160-180k this week. At this rate they aren't going even to reach Top10 in the year-end chart. GOOD!

I agree to a certain extent - leona is still tied with XF somehow - she is on the same record label as all of those people there. She will always be associated with XF in the UK.

Hopefully! I hate xf charity singles! They only spoil the charts!
