My chart's followed the conventional release schedule styled singles chart for the last 6 months and I'm actually getting annoyed with it because it doesn't reflect purely what I listen to, I get random retro addictions and I usually prefer album tracks over singles so I'm now highly considering do a truly reflecting chart of what I listen to - irrespective if the songs aren't current, aren't singles. My chart runs would be quite Harve-like then I guess so I don't know. Which is why I'm asking the question. .

Which route would you advise me to go in? Under which category does your chart fall under and why?

it's all about random.

I dont even listen to new releases these days, so I wouldnt even know what to chart, i'd have to do like top 5. I also got pissed off with it not reflecting my music taste so I did try a mashup where it was what I was listening to most, with the new release schedule, but it was too much effort (im a busy man etc). so now I just write down the top ten tracks and albums i've been loving the most this week, and sometimes how many times listened to. lofi charts for the win.

Mine is conventional and singles based, though I sometimes drop in the odd album track. Thing is, I listen music from the 60s til now, so if I did it properly representative, it would look weird, and most of BJ would have never heard of it

If my chart followed conventional style there would only be about 3 songs a week in my chart, if that at times .

I base it purely on what I've listened to most and had most interest in that week.

It makes the chart look a bit messy though because when I've bought an Album or 2, the chart will be filled with most of the Songs that week and there are huge drops for other Artists.

:)

When I do my chart (which is now very irregularly) I base it on what I've been listening to the most, whether it ties in with the release schedule or not.

Otherwise it wouldn't really be an accurate representation for me.

random, I'd HATE to stick to the release schedule, I'd feel so limited and there'd be deadwood hanging about the whole time at the bottom, I much prefer my fast paced chart which truly reflects my 50 favourite songs of the week, whatever the source, as opposed to my top 50 UK released singles, which is so narrow...

I'd hate some of my favourite songs of all time not get the chance to chart...Delta Goodrem's 2004 album track Extraordinary Day topped my chart for 9 weeks! wouldn't have happened if I stuck to release schedules and I would have had 9 weeks of default No.1's which is not a situation I ever want to see...

I'd actually love to see other people do charts like that because I often youtube songs I don't know that others like and via that always discover new songs...it can get very monotonous to say

hi poster x, these are my faves

1. Leona Lewis - Happy

2. Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love

3. current UK hit

4. current UK hit

5. current UK hit

etc...

whereas I love looking at Angelic Shine's chart (and others) where there are at least a good 10 songs I don't know every week, many of which I youtube and love...it doesn't mean we don't chart UK releases, but there's more of a mix

of course some people only listen to UK single releases so fair enough, but they're missing out on SO MUCH :drama:

I used to listen only to the radio and hence charting songs that are 'singles' here (actually there isn't such thing in Russia, we don't release singles). I actually loved that time because I remember charting Gwen Stefani's What You Waiting For for more than a year, now the maximum i can get is 25 weeks. But I got out of that time and now i have internet - so why waste everything on already popular and known songs - variousity and experimenting is much more interesting. Now i chart everything i want even though i try to conentrate my attention on BJ and UK release schedule as a source for albums titles I would like to try. :o

Here's the current list of my number ones with UK releases bolded:

Marina And The Diamonds - Obsessions

Crystal Castles - XXZCUZX ME

Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone

Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

Boaz/Sirusho/Jelena - Time To Pray

Booty Luv - Say It

Noa & Mira Awad – There Must Be Another Way

Flor-De-Lis – Todas As Ruas De Amor

Svetlana Loboda – Be My Valentine

Marit Bergman - Bang Bang

Gossip - Pop Goes The World

Bloc Party - One More Chance

St. Vincent – Actor Out Of Work

Gaby – My Show

Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love

David Guetta ft. Akon – Sexy Bitch

David Guetta ft. Wynter Gordon - Toyfriend

Lady GaGa - Paparazzi

Tiësto ft. Kele Okereke - It's Not The Things You Say

Tiësto ft. Tegan And Sara – Feel It In My Bones

Chase & Status featuring Plan B - End Credits

Album tracks ftw!

technically Pavel, Fairytale was no more or less 'released' than any of the other Eurovision tracks, it's just the only one that had success here :kink: all could have charted if they were popular enough, Rybak didn't get a physical release or anything, only download :(
I know it was only a download but still it charted. :o I am quite unaware about Marina though too but i think she was released there

these all charted in the top 200 iirc too :o

Noa & Mira Awad – There Must Be Another Way

Flor-De-Lis – Todas As Ruas De Amor

Svetlana Loboda – Be My Valentine

I can't remember if Florence - Cosmic Love charted...I remember it doing fairly well on iTunes

I do a mixture - I tend to do my favourite tracks of the week without regard for release schedule (hence Remedy still being in there and Robots In Love being in there at all) but I do try to avoid charting songs that aren't from the last two years...
I'd say mine is loosely based on the release schedule.
