Posted December 3, 200915 yr They've finally announced today that the X Factor winners' song will be The Climb, as originally sung by Miley Cyrus: NG2zyeVRcbs Source! Apparently Joe and Stacey excelled at it in rehearsals whilst Olly and Danyl struggled but I'd take that with a pinch of salt. I'm just glad they've finally picked something youthful which the winner might really have a shot at putting their own stamp on...
December 3, 200915 yr what a TERRIBLE choice! Hannah Montana..really? I can't see it suited any of the remaining contestants, especially Olly. and it was only released a few months ago! Edited December 3, 200915 yr by Kiseki
December 3, 200915 yr Author There's really no need to be a snob. It's a solid pop ballad regardless of who sings the original (which by the way was Miley, not Hannah Montana).
December 3, 200915 yr ^ Solid pop ballad or not, imo it's an awful song :| Ridiculous choice, shame, after getting it spot on last year..
December 3, 200915 yr Awful. The Journey one was better. It'll suit Stacey rather than any of the guys! Edited December 3, 200915 yr by Crazy Chris
December 3, 200915 yr ^ Solid pop ballad or not, imo it's an awful song :| Ridiculous choice, shame, after getting it spot on last year.. I disagree with this. I'd rather Simon took a cheesy song like this and kept it cheesy than taking an epic classic like Hallelujah and DESTROYING it. And tbh I think Stacey will NAIL this so it doesnt bother me
December 3, 200915 yr Author Spot on last year?! I'll just agree to disagree there but those classics being raped year-in, year-out were certainly beginning to grate. I'm honestly surprised but glad about this choice.
December 3, 200915 yr Not sure if this is a good choice or a bad choice. I mean, it's a bad choice because I think it is a mediocre song (or Miley's version). However, I think this will be a better choice than 'Don't Stop Believin', so I'm happy. Leave the classic alone! The winner better perform 'The Climb' pretty well though, or else it will probably be the worst winner's song on the X Factor since... umm... 'When You Believe'. :heehee:
December 3, 200915 yr There's really no need to be a snob. It's a solid pop ballad regardless of who sings the original (which by the way was Miley, not Hannah Montana). i'm not being a snob  I don't mind the occasional dose of Miley (same person, it's like saying Single Ladies was Sasha Fierce, not Beyonce..) but using a song released this year as the winners single seems slightly ludicrous, especially when Simon seemed to be going down the route of having his singers cover more credible songs (Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Hallelujiah).
December 3, 200915 yr Author My snob comment was in response to your 'Hannah Montana - really?!' which certainly came across snobby! And there was nothing credible about covering Hallelujah because a grand total of about three people preferred it to the classic versions. The overwhelming response was that it shouldn't have been touched (I'm obviously not including the braindeads who bought it in that statement). Far more credible to cover something which isn't set in stone as one of the all-time greats and find a way for the winner to put their own stance on it, no? Or am I wrong, was Alexandra's Hallelujah (and I love her before anybody starts) a world-altering rendition after all? Anyway, each to their own and all that! I'm personally pleased that the winners' song is finally something the winner won't be dreadfully embarassed about when it gets tacked onto the end of their debut album.
December 3, 200915 yr I'm not fussed either way, I love the song and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I kind of agree with Jark about the classics thing but at the same time I'd rather a original song. How hard can it be to write a song for a winner?! Or they could do what AI did and do a competition for viewers to write one ... Still if sung by the right person it could be one of the better winners songs ... not like that'd be hard though.
December 3, 200915 yr It's better to choose a sh!tty, cheesy song than to fukk up another classic like they did last year.... And, unlike some I dont go along with the theory that "Hallelujah" shouldn't be "touched".. It was touched by the absolute genius of the late Jeff Buckley whose version I most certainly prefer to Leonard Cohen's original, so, I am totally on board when a cover is done startlingly well (other examples being Johnny Cash's astounding, and emotional version of NIN's "Hurt" and the versh of Tears For Fears' "Mad World" done a few years ago which was on the Donnie Darko soundtrack).... I just though Alexandra Burke's sucked sh!te through a straw and she blatantly had no clue as to the real subtexts or emotions of the song, whereas Buckley got everything so unbelievably right..... Anyway, it matters not, The Muppets are gonna WHUP Cowell's ass this year......
December 3, 200915 yr I actually really like "The Climb", Cyrus or not. It's ridiculously cheesy, but since when were reality winner songs anything other than this?! It's always about believing, overcoming, striving, having your moment and such other subjects. It doesn't matter that it's originally by Miley Cyrus, it's no worse than "A Moment Like This", "When You Believe", "That's My Goal", "This Is My Now", "All This Time", "Against All Odds" etc. in terms of slightly cringey lyrics. I'd even say the rumoured Journey song was similarly cheesy. I can imagine everyone but Olly singing this, so I wouldn't say it favours anyone in particular. I wouldn't go as far as to say the winner won't be embarrassed to have this on their album, unless it's Joe (who'll probably have lots of cover), however.
December 3, 200915 yr I doubt over 600,000 people or so are going to buy the Muppets single tbh. :P Given that'll probably be how much it takes to beeat X Factor Winner.
December 3, 200915 yr I disagree with this. I'd rather Simon took a cheesy song like this and kept it cheesy than taking an epic classic like Hallelujah and DESTROYING it. And tbh I think Stacey will NAIL this so it doesnt bother me  My thoughts entirely, although I can hear Danyl singing this a damn sight more than Joe.
December 3, 200915 yr Urgh. Horrible choice. Still, I bet Simon felt the oncoming backlash with Don't Stop Believing and switched at the last minute. This will be great for Stacey and Danyl, but Joe and especially Olly (:snif:) will be EPIC FAIL :(
