amazon have 29p tracks as 'lossleaders' these are where the seller (amazon in this case) takes a hit (loss) to promote their services. amazon are trying to become a big player in the download market, getting people attracted to it by under-cutting itunes with 2 of the biggest selling songs of the year is the way to do it. supermarkets do lossleaders often (buy 1 get 1 free ect) to get people to sample a product they normally wouldn't then hopefully they will still buy it when the offer ends.

amazon may lose 11p per track but they are hoping next time the person who bought joe/rage buys it from amazon thus making up for the original loss.

Seems quite a clever tactic.

(Though I wish all downloads were always 29p, it's such a bargain! I personally feel such a price is just about right for a digital file).

To be honest I think this whole campaign is pathetic. Joe has worked hard for months and months for his dream to come true and for a load of people to buy a song that they don't even like just to spite Simon is quite beyond me. The RATM song is AWFUL, and they've done nothing to deserve to get the Christmas number 1.

Alot of people on this forum go on about how Simon brainwashes the UK into buying the winners single, X Factor charity single etc but most of you don't even give the songs a chance. You'll always just label it as bad because its related to The X Factor, sad really.

lol some artists work hard for years, have oodles of talent and never get their chance to shine. Joe has got more of a chance now than 99.9% of artist and it is because he fits the mould of what simon cowell wants as the 'x-factor'. many other artists have the x factor, be it incredible voices, piano/guitar/instrument ability ect but because they don't fit the young, pretty, fresh face ballad singing mould of what cowell wants the winner to be they will never get the chance.

I agree, the contestants dont even choose their songs each week. They dont exactly "work hard for months and months"

RATM are legends, and no doubt will be remembered long after J.M flops...

Not really, Simon doesn't choose the winner. 10 million people around the UK decided the winner. And too bad if other arists work for years, people can't be that interested in them can they? Even if RATM get to number 1 it wont be because of merit, it'll be because of a bunch of sad people, with the majority of them not even liking the song overbuying it to spite someone. Hardly going to be their big break, is it?

This post sums up everything why I hate Simon Cowell for what he is doing to UK popular music taking it back to the ignorant days of the Pre Rock'N'Roll era of the early 1950s.

All I'll say is where are Michelle McManus; Steve Brookstein; Leon Jackson; Shayne Ward ... now.

cowell and co decide who will be in the final 12, so you only have to pick from people he has already hand picked. Oh and how very narrow minded of you to think that artists who work for years on smaller labels, indie labels don't have intrest in them, they just don't have the money or publicity to get their music out to enough people or are held back by being not fresh faced and beautiful such is the fickleness of mainstream music that mister cowell loves to promote.

Worst post I have ever seen.

I'm not too sure about that but it doesn't matter - as whoever wins ... the ultimate winner is Cowell. Fair enough ... if people want to watch the show (even I watch it occasionally - it can be entertaining when we have acts like Jedward in) but is there any need to go that step further and buy the song. Can't the show be enjoyed without the ... oh and I must do my duty bit and buy it. Lets face it ... if this song had been released without X-Factor - and to put a bit of gloss on it ... lets say George Michael or Robbie Williams released a song as crap as The Climb ... would the people buying it now be buying it? No ... because whether they like it or not ... the people buying it HAVE been brainwashed by the show. And you'll often find that people who are brainwashed ... don't even know they've been brainwashed.

Having said all that - I also think the RATM song is $h!te ... so I won't buy it. If however ... someone (anyone - even Robbie and I HATE Robbie) released a decent song .... like ones mentioned in thisispop's post in the Retro thread then yes I'd buy into it.

Joe has worked hard? not really Simon Cowell has worked hard,

You label RATM as 'AWFUL' just because it is opposing a song you like and because it isnt a pop song, sad really.

Is Joe's dream to become a puppet to the music industry? poor guy.

Oh and I have been a fan of Rage years and years before this campaign, so dont give me $h!t that i'm in it just to spite Simon Cowell, although I am in it to spite him since the press conference, wasnt before, if he wasnt talking like a prize of winning the x factor is getting the christmas number 1, like he owned it, we wouldnt hate him EVEN MORE. Why should Joe get number 1 because it's his dream? god that is sad bull$h!t, why should he get number 1 anyway? he doesnt deserve number 1 one f***ing bit.

since when does someone deserve to be number 1 because they were on the f***ing x factor. really pisses me off how the music industry works these days, i dont give a f*** if it's his 'dream', if it was his dream maybe he should of legitimately got a record deal instead of going on a f***ing tv show 'i dream of getting number 1 so i'll go on the x factor cos if i win that i'm garenteed to be number 1' :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

big break?

since when do RATM 1) need a big break?, 2) are the type of band who gives a $h!t when they have a big break.

Can people stop talking about RATM like they are just another pawn in the music industry (like Joe is), they are not in music to get to the top of the charts, to get 'big breaks', to make money.

If people want to oppose RATM that is fine, BUT AT LEAST KNOW WHAT YOU ARE f***ING TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE IT IS f***ING FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU KNOW f*** ALL ABOUT RAGE AND SPEAK ABOUT THEM LIKE THEY ARE JLS.

Everyone go into their local HMV tomorrow and put copies of RATM - RATM over the top of the Joe singles

I agree with this, though I'd probably express it in a slightly less swearful manner.

But seriously, I don't think Joe or indeed anyone on the X Factor should be handed the Xmas #1 on a plate just because they happen to be the most popular of 12 acts chosen by Simon Cowell, often poorly... now I do watch the X Factor, and I do enjoy watching it, and I do think that Joe is actually a good singer, but not good enough to merit having an Xmas #1 just because 6.1 million people preferred him to Olly Murs, who was pretty awful anyway... Rage must somehow pull through and make Simon re-evaluate his decision to 'claim' the Xmas #1 as his own. I've nothing against the prospect of a winner's single, but it would be better if 1. it was not released in the Xmas week and 2. it was an original song with some decent production and a proper music video, not a rushed out usually subpar cover of a usually subpar song (exceptions Hallelujah and Against All Odds, both of which were murdered by Alexandra Burke and Steve Brookstein respectively) with a crappy montage video featuring loads of shots of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges... One more thing, I think it's great that RATM were (are?) in the music industry for the MUSIC, and they don't care about how many copies they sell, so they actually produce quality music, not even trying to be radio-friendly or commercial or whatever. And donating what proceeds they get to Shelter is a very thoughtful move. Well, that's my two cents anyway, I'll stop here before I start rambling LOL.

True for 3 of them, but i don't think Shayne was dropped. Last i heard he was in the studio working

on his next album.

On of the best posts in this thread, is it werid that a 13 year old manages waaaay more mature answers than a lot of people on thos forum? what does that tell you (no offence to your age BrayFish).

Although you do get it wrong in the end, they arent/werent in the music industyru for the music, it was actually to get their political thoughts and messgaes across, they put activism above music, but music is their form of activism, it just happens that they are amazing musicians at the same time, all 4 of them are mega talented.

Glee - Don't Stop Believin'

So according to Simon Cowell in the X-Factor Final Don't Stop Believin' is an unknown song, yes sure it is Simon, that is why the original Journey 1981 track was the most downloaded song from the 1980s in the USA this decade?

And the quite brilliant cover by the Glee Cast (whom with virtually every single song they touch shame the whole tackiness and general rubbishness that X-Factor is; with generally great versions of old songs - to some of you who think I'm a music snob I love Glee because they put thought and imagination to reinvent the songs they cover even if sometimes they don't work unlike a certain money making Simon Cowell programme) made the Top 5 in USA, Australia & Canada and will doubtless throughout 2010 have a deserved similar impact in Europe is an unknown song even though that version has been downloaded 2.7 million times worldwide by the end of November 2009?

Indeed it is so obscure the the 2009 American Idol Finalists perform it ...... as their finale .....
