It's in virtually every one of the guy's posts though! Yes it is censored but he gets round it. Okay let's all use it if it's fine then!!!

Someone who admitted stripping off in front of their 13 year old daughter, is dole cheat and is disrespectful towards WW2 veterans, has NO RIGHTS WHATSOVER to get all moralistic with anyone.... sod off CC, you're a constant spammer on my forum, now you're spamming Chris' discussion with irrelevant crap..... <_<

Wouldn't it be funny if Sony decides on Saturday to take the song off Itunes and other sites  Of course I know it's not gonna happen but god I'd like to see the faces of those gutted people

If Sony are "only in it for the money" then of course they wont.... The only thing that could happen is if RATM themselves raised objections.... Which they could easily do, and perhaps Tom Morello or Zack de la Rocha actually should pull the plug on it considering the way it all seems to be going... I've thought about this over the past couple of days tbh... And, while on the one hand, Cowell would get a bloody nose (and Bert, yes it WOULD bother him if he lost out, even to a fellow "Sony" act, because at the end of the day, he's an egotistical tosser who feels that he's entitled to dominate everything), on the other, it's still scum-sucking Sony that'll get a pay-day..... So, I've concluded that Sony should really be considered worse than Cowell, because at the end of the day, they bankroll him, and the way that they've treated some artists on labels that they've absorbed is frankly disgusting....

...So, as much as I loved RATM's music and their ideology, I find that I cant really support this particular campaign, there are too many doubts in my mind now about it, the almost religious-like fervour that the Facebook group is putting across is a little bit, well, disturbing, they're trying just a little too hard now if you know what I mean... We really do have no idea who these guys are who started this Facebook thing, they really could be Sony employees for all we know... I just wonder would this be happening if RATM had signed to, say, Geffen or Roadrunner....? Well, I suppose it might, but still, doubts remain....

So, GO MUPPETS.....

Wooo so finally it seems we agree on somehting :o

If you read back a few pages, it was more or less my initial point of view (if we leave appart the debate about metaphors and swearing lol). If you read back, you see I don't particulary WANT a X Factor karaoke song at #1 (especially if Stacey or Olly win...), I just found this campaign a bit ridiculous and over the top, especially using 1) a song that rights are owned by a big major 2) a band that would potentially be against this campaign anyway. They're all about anti-commercialism, so I don't think their main fight would be against a "Christmas Number 1 in the UK charts", because by definition, "charts" are based on sales so it's 100% about commercialism.

I wouldn't mind having an other Number 1, but I'd rather have an other song getting there on its own merit, than a song picked by a few "punk" teenagers who think they're gonna change the world from their bedroom thanks to facebook. I mean, they're more important fights to lead out there...

This song is so brutal I love it.

It would be brilliant on TOTP christmas edition if its shown on christmas day all grannys spitting there turkey out at the ending.Iam buying it 4 sure.

Also be a great anti-afghanistan war song killing in the name of????

Killing In The Name is now #48 on iTunes; I guess some people didn't understand the bit about downloading it next week...

Simon bites back:

Simon Cowell: No 1 campaign stupid

Simon Cowell has branded a campaign to prevent the X Factor winner from having the Christmas No 1 single as "stupid" and "cynical".

Simon Cowell says the Rage Against The Machine is 'stupid'

Simon Cowell has branded a campaign to prevent the X Factor winner from having the Christmas No 1 single as "stupid" and "cynical".

He also said he felt it was "dismissive" of the show's viewers and that he felt the campaign was aimed at him.

A group set up on Facebook is calling for people to make rock band Rage Against The Machine's 1992 single Killing In The Name this year's No 1.

It currently has 548,000 members.

Speaking at a press conference with the competition's finalists Stacey Solomon, Joe McElderry and Olly Murs, and its judges Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh, Simon said: "If there's a campaign, and I think the campaign's aimed directly at me, it's stupid. Me having a No 1 record at Christmas is not going to change my life particularly.

"It does however change these guys' lives and we put this opportunity there so that the winner of the X Factor gets the chance of having a big hit record.

"I think it's quite a cynical campaign geared at me which is actually going to spoil the party for these three.

"I also think it's incredibly dismissive of the people who watch and enjoy the show... to treat our audiences as if they're stupid and I don't like that."

Simon also played down the impact of the trend for the X Factor's winner to take the No 1 spot.

He said: "Everyone has this slightly distorted view of Christmas No 1s being incredible. There was that ghastly Cliff Richard song a few years ago, Bob The Builder. So we haven't exactly taken away anything special, it just so happens that our record, to coincide with the show, goes out at Christmas."

We really do have no idea who these guys are who started this Facebook thing, they really could be Sony employees for all we know... I just wonder would this be happening if RATM had signed to, say, Geffen or Roadrunner....? Well, I suppose it might, but still, doubts remain....

This is what I've been thinking since I found out it was owned by a Sony label. I know there's something slightly funny about the Christmas #1 being a metal song and the lyrics are quite fitting, but it all seems a bit suspicious. I'm sure there are many other songs that'd send a similar message, so why RATM in particular?

With last year's Jeff Buckley campaign being fairly successful, I'm almost wondering if someone at Sony thought "right, what song do we own that could be this year's anti-X Factor 'protest'?" and set up the group. I'm sure there are plenty of little Christmas #1 campaigns, but it's this one that's caught the media attention and even Simon Cowell has now acknowledged it. I'm just a bit cynical about it all.

I think these campaigns are silly anyway, they don't make the winning single sell any less. That's the only thing that'd hurt Simon but, like he said, it'd be more upsetting to whoever wins. Whether it gets to #1 on sales of 300,000 or #2 on the same sales, he still makes a lot of money. Christmas #1 is just a bonus.

Well as someone who's been checking the group and posted quite a lot in it if it was anything to do with Sony I'd be very suprised tbh.

But the fact that Rage are a band who don't want to be commercial makes it even better! The best thing to even get close to keeping X Factor off #1 would be someone who really doesn't give a f*ck about 'number ones'. As John who started the campaign himself said this campaign isn't a 'stop Simon Cowell' campaign or about money it's about making the battle for christmas #1 EXCITING again and possibly having something different then the X Factor winner at #1 EVERY YEAR.

No one who's closely following the campaign really cares where the money is going to (apart from the little campaign for each member to give £5 to Shelter in the group where £5,000 has been raised so far) but it's about getting a song we all like at #1 which unfortunately won't happen but I say if we can beat Bulls On Parade's peak of #8 (their biggest hit in this country) then it'd be very successful as we'll have a brilliant song in the top ten for christmas instead of the same old predictable songs!

'Brilliant song'?? OK I'd be right behind a christmas themed NEW, ORGINAL song going to No.1 insted of X-Factor... but being told to download a song released in 1992, that somehow is going to be somekind of victory against 'something or other' in the event of it going to No.1 (which it won't)..doesn't really appeal to me! I will agree X-factor in general has become dire, and the 'Americanisation' of the show makes me what to throw my TV out of the window. But still people WILL watch it, AND it is entertaining!

I could turn this whole appeal back on it's self and ask how many people (drones) would download this single if they weren't asked to, being made to think they were 'part' of some kind of revolution (  )????? just as bad as the millions of Xfactor viewers they hate so much!

Most of these downloading morons will probably get it off Limewire or someother illegal source, not to mention the ones who have started to download already!! (see Itunes chart)

Totally agree with everything you said!

Glad im not the complete minority on this one!...

Well whatever you think about it it's already doing exactly what the campaign was aiming for: Bringing some excitement into who will be christmas #1! And those 'morons' are most likely people who've seen the publicity it's getting and want to see what the fuss is all about! Just like downloading something when it's played in the background on X Factor

Yes you do have a point and I did make a point myself that it's basically putting the X Factor sheep into a different pen but at least most of people actually know what the song sounds like and if it's any good unlike people who have already pre-ordered the single  I would have liked other tactics then this to get a different song to #1 but giving the X Factor a taste of it's own medicine in a way seems to be the only choice.

Oh and Tom Morello doesn't seem to have anything against the campaign :D :

@tmorello Over half a million people sign to get RATM for xmas NO.1 instead of Simon Cowell's reality tv winner! http://tinyurl.com/y8oxvq8

ALSO, theres nothing 'exciting' about this whole construction. It's more planned and pointless then any X-Factor final there'll ever be!!

NOW, the days when songs where bought for because the public wanted to NOT told to..they where exciting!

**HURRAY! I wonder what old song we're gonna be told to dowload next year 'to keep Xfactor of No.1??!! the excitement is killing me..... <_< **

C'MON PEOPLE WAKE UP!

ANYTHING would be a better Xmas No1 than 'The Climb' tbh. :/

And people are not TOLD TO buy the X Factor single? I love the song and want it to be #1 hence why I'm downloading it because I KNOW the song and LIKE THE SONG and don't want a song at #1 because 'they won a TV show'

**HURRAY I wonder what dreary bland and boring ballad we'll download next year from some boring no personality X Factor winner that most likely won't get past two albums! I'll download it regardless how good the song is! The excitement is killing me..... <_< **

To quote Rage themselves: WAKE UP!

Edited by Grandwicky

Couldn't they have campaigned The Muppets or the original Song for #1 and not this random Band.

I very much doubt it pulling off anyway haha. I'm interested to see how well/poor it performs though.

I wouldn't say ANYONE is told to buy the xfator single?? Im quite sure its a case of 'it's availible if you want it'

Besides that, I don't know why your under the impression I am defending the X-Factor..both campaigns and followers are as bad as each other.

It's just a bit of fun. Get over yourself and stop being such an arse.
