Any Songs or Artists that were a suprise Hit in your Charts?

i.e. loving a Single from an Artist you didn't like/know/anticipate before.

Suprise Hits 2009:

Also, any Artists/Bands you anticipate to be a success in your Charts in 2010?

Would be a good reference to see who achieved and who suprised you this time next year :P.

Mousse T feat Suzie Furlonger – All Night Long (D.I.S.C.O) (22-12-09-17-27-41-40) 07 Weeks

Dolly Rockers – Boys Will Be Boys (28-17-12-09-09-26-45) 07 Weeks

All suprising for different reasons of course. Amy, just because I never thought she'd go back to the more poppy sound and I also never thought she'd record something as good as that.

The Fear, basically I cant stand the majority of Lily's music. This era on a whole has been a big improvement for her, well, if you ignore Not Fair.

La La Land because it's pure embarassing disney cheese. But god do I love it. Same for all the Miley singles.

Not Anymore because well, I certainly wasnt expecting of the early Destinys Child members to get a #1 in my chart this year.

Mousse T & Suzie because I had no idea Suzie was doing anything. I'd also completly forgotten of Mousse T's existance. Both to get a top 10 was suprsing, let alone together.

Dollies, firstly because of how awful the rest of their material was and secondly because of who they were, some reject girlband from X-Factor 3-4 years ago.

Predictions for 2010

Daisy Dares You

Jessie Malakouti

Nadine Coyle

nothing ever surprises me in my chart, I guess the most unlikely 'event' was Stadt by Cassandra Steen/Adel Tawil topping the chart!

seeing as I hate the German language, a song sung entirely in German topping my chart for 2 weeks was a big shock!

I can't say I foresaw Vanessa Amorosi going back to #1 after a 9 year gap either :heehee:

Ashley Tisdale, Blake Lewis, Anna Abreu & Noah & The Whale ALL surprised me (Pleasently) their albums have been AMAZING!

Not sure who will surprise me in 2010 though... maybe Selena Gomez & The Scene so far.

I have a few which surprised me, but most of the songs that chart in my chart are from an act or genre I already love. The first number is position on Year End chart.

14. The Veronicas – Untouched (#1) - Because I thought they were $h!t

30. Frankmusik – Confusion Girl (Shame Shame Shame) (#3) - Out of the blue - I'd never heard of him but loved this.

56. Sean Kingston – Fire Burning (#9) - Because it's Sean Kingston :\

77. Mariah Carey – I Want To Know What Love Is (#4) - She's had amazing success in my chart but not for quite a while, so this song took me by surprise.

91. Solange - Sandcastle Disco (#5) - I heard it around Christmas time whilst shopping and didn't chart it until long after when I realised who it was.

92. Ciara ft. Missy Elliott – Work (#14) - I hated it compared to 'Love Sex Magic' but it turned out to be quite the hit for me.

122. All American Rejects - Gives You Hell (#11) - I don't like All American Rejects :o

130. Solange - I Decided (#17) - Same as above really. I discovered her and decided to chart it, I didn't realise how much I liked it though.

COMPLETELY agree about Sean Kingston, also went to #9 in my chart

amazing song from a tragic recording artist

my biggest chart shock of last year was easily a #2 hit for Haven't Met You Yet by Michael Buble - I usually can't stand the man and his MOR Heart FM music but his Love Song clone is fantastic

I'll say Lil' Wayne surprised me a bit. 'Mrs. Officer' (I know it's 2008 but whatever), 'Prom Queen' (but didn't chart in the Top 20) and 'Drop The World' are actually good tracks. The others are s***.

*cough* 'Lollipop' *cough* 'A Milli' *cough*

I was never keen on Alicia Keys ('Fallin'' and 'If I Ain't Got You' are good tracks though) until now, she might surprise me this year.

Suprise Hits of 2010 (to date):

Ke$ha - Blah Blah Blah (feat. 30H!3)* [12-10-08-06-05]

Jason Derulo - In My Head* [08-12]

Edited by Jamieed

My biggest surprise hits I can recall all seemed to happen in one week.

Cheryl Cole ft. will.i.am – 3 Words [39-25-08-03-04-03-02-07-11-]

Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne – I Can Transform Ya [32-29-26-17-14-04-04-05-06-08-13-20-]

Madonna – Revolver [18-10-10-13-18-22-22-29-]

Cheryl because I never expected it to grow on me so much, I despise the woman and only charted "Fight For This Love" at #36, but this is a lovely song.

Chris Brown because, "No Air" aside, he'd only ever managed to get as high as #24 with "Superhuman". (which was mostly down to Keri Hilson) His next biggest hit, which was male only, was "Forever" which peaked at #30. Now combine this with him going from having a pretty tame image to beating Rihanna before his next release and I thought he'd likely never have another hit in my chart. But it's gone totally the opposite. I love "I Can Transform Ya" and it's Rihanna's latest releases that I'm indifferent to.

Madonna was a surprise simply because the last Madonna song I'd consider worthy of my top 10 is "Beautiful Stranger". (unless you count "Me Against The Music") But "Revolver" is actually good. I'm not sure I'd be saying that if I hadn't fallen in love with the demo by someone else though!

As for others, I suppose there could be the Noisettes with "Never Forget You". It went to #1 in my chart after the first could 'only' make #15.

Katy Perry & Juicy J - Dark Horse [67-39-24-28-70-25-54-65-58-xx(x5)-57-24-38-39-60-51-38-13-21-13-11-09-05-13-13-07-06-04-03-04-04] 30 weeks

I think this is the biggest surprise hit I have tbh. Obviously I love Katy Perry but I really thought this was a crap song from her at the time it premiered as a promo single and then voila! It's currently in my top 5, it's heading for a new peak on my next chart and it's in my top 5 end of year now.

I once thought of Clean Bandit as one of those 'quirky bands' that had very weak material and wouldn't grow to become any better. Now in almost six months, they've found it and have had two #1s in my chart because of it.

WHAT.

I was thinking about them when I posted about Dark Horse. Mozart's House was my biggest hit last year.

Fancy by Iggy Azalea Ft Charli XCX

It entered at 12 before dropping completely out of the charts. The next week it Re-entered at 19 before climbing to 7 and 5. It fell to 9 the climbed back up to 4 and has reached a new peak today. Would have never of suspected it to be anywhere near those last numbers after the start

Fancy, If I Could Change Your Mind, Only Love Can Hurt Like This and Chandelier entered my chart quite low then re-entered at a massive peak

Vanessa Amorosi went to no.1, what???

Live iTunes Top 10

1 Ed Sheeran

Sing

What ees thees? Surprise hit if ever there was 1! Pardon the puna :P

Vanessa Amorosi went to no.1, what???

she didn't actually go to #1, she just went to #1 in someone's personal chart :P

the Ed Sheeran song is definitely not a surprise #1  and that's the UK chart, not anyone's personal chart.
