it all goes back to the age old argument of exposure really...

if The Postal Service got the commercial support that Owl City receive then I'm sure they could manage a hit single - in reality, few casual music listeners in the UK will have heard of them because they are not played here. Like it or not, many people in the UK only listen to what they are exposed to via the media :(

I have heard of them and some of their music but didn't like anything I heard as much as I like Fireflies and Umbrella Beach personally so although they might be more critically acclaimed, there is nothing there that makes me want to go back and listen again :(

The Postal Service?

That is definitely not true. 98%, 99% maybe... but definitely not 99.9%. But then, you're on a music forum, that's a specific crowd, probably much higher rates of recognition around here.

Well I meant Death Cab To Cutie, but never mind. As for the other one, I HATE them. I am still waiting for a Christmas package 3 days after waiting for it. I don't care if the delivery guy broke his leg on the way here.. EXCUSES EXCUSES!! :arrr:

I'd say it's closer to 80% of the UK not knowing DCFC.

Rage now down to #5

:cheer:

Gaga for first #2 of 2010 please :kink:

3 words up to #5, Rage down to #6

Gaga for first #2 of 2010 please :kink:

You mean, #1 :kink:

i think we all know that lady gaga's been the real number 1 of the last weeks and weeks to come :)
The question is were Rage's sales too strong on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday to mean at the end of the week everyone in the top half jumps over them by 1 place?

Really? Has GaGa been secretly selling more records than Joe/RATM then? No? Then she's not the "real" #1

That's not what he meant. She didn't need mass exposure or a retarded campaign to get to #01 ...

Let talent rule the last No 1 of the year-keep downloading Bad Romance.
Well I am sorry for not knowing about a band with a stupid name 99.9% of the population has never heard of.

And double :manson: :manson: to you too buddy. With whipped cream and a couple of cherries on top.

How mature. :o

She's been quite everywhere all year long though, you just coldn't avoid her on radio, magazines, tvs, internet, ... so somehow she actually had a mass exposure all through 2009 ^_^

But yes I get what you mean.

It doesn't matter how a song got to #1, the song at #1 is the real #1, no technicalities! Even if you think it's rubbish. :P

Besides I'm sure there could be something said against every #1 that's ever been.

:/

Yeah well that was just a boost really. It was doing pretty well before X Factor anyway like BEPs.

Besides Janet Jackson, Shakira & Mariah Carey didn't really have the same effect when they performed. :P

Wahey for Ego! It's doing better than Issues was doing this time last year (Ego's physical release date is exactly 1 year after Issues, so this is the same sales time pattern).
