Posted December 17, 200915 yr I really thought that the comeback No1. smash that was 'My Life', followed by a No.1 album surely meant good things for the 'All I Ever Wanted' era....so what went wrong? I personally feel that 'I Do Not Hook Up' was a poor, poor, poor single choice, especially releasing it after 'My Life' which was basically a far superior bigger sister to the song. I think they should have followed with 'If I Can't Have You' which was a very different side to Clarkson, and would have blown up on radio considering its what's 'in' at the moment in terms of it being quite electro-dance. I think 'Already Gone' was always begging for a release, and in the end it hasn't done too shabbily but I'd like to think that instead of canning the album after it, 'Impossible' or 'Don't Let Me Stop You' would have been the 4th and 5th singles. Any thoughts?
December 17, 200915 yr Basically the label can't handle the fact that Kelly doesn't want to be a puppet! When she voices her opinions they just get pissed off and don't seem to care. As ever! I wish she'd just leave them and get on a decent label. I Do Not Hook Up was quite a good single but they just didn't promote it very well and same with Already Gone. The AG thing also got all the attention with the Halo sound alike. It's a real shame because this is a great album.
December 17, 200915 yr Perhaps if they'd have swapped Already Gone & I Do Not Hook Up around things might have been a bit different, in the UK at least. Hook Up flopping as baddly as it did still does suprise me tbh. It get pretty good TV Airplay and Radio 1 supported it.
December 17, 200915 yr I agree with Aled. In fact, impo, they shouldn't have released IDNHU at all :( (As good a song as it is). 'Already Gone' should have been the second single followed by 'Don't Let Me Stop You' imo. Ah well, at least this era out-did the 'My December' era by quite a way. It's not been a flop in the US actually. 3 Top 20 hits, one of which only just peaked. One of the biggest selling albums over there this year (I think), it's been a pretty great era for her over there.
December 28, 200915 yr I cant believe the album hasnt done great in the UK. It was a brilliant album, her best yet. I think the 2nd single, I do not hook up was a very poor choice and then all the promotion for the album seemed to disappear.
January 7, 201015 yr US wise she hasn't done bad actually (#1 album with 800K+ sold and 3 top 20 hits). In the rest of the world she didn't start of very bad (both the album/lead single reached the charts) but things just went wrong with I do not hook up. With Already gone most people forgot about the album and they didn't bother to promote the song. Shame, as I still think that Already gone could have been a bigger hit and saved the album outside the US. Edited January 7, 201015 yr by Jur
January 7, 201015 yr the clashing schedules was the biggest problem. Kelly had too much going on at the same all over the world. I mean the schedule juggling went pretty well for My Life.. she done quite a bit of promo over here and in the US and managed to get a #1 on both sides of the atlantic. And then IDNHU the promo started going down hill. Already Gone's promo was ok in the US but was too stretched out. It would be one this week and then four weeks later, another performance...
January 7, 201015 yr Author IMO, the Grammy's really saved 'Already Gone's' ass because it wasn't really going any higher than 20 before it, shows what some decent and consistent promo could have done for it!

I think you mean the AMA's, the Grammy's are at the end of this month, either way though Already Gone should have been pushed as the second single, it was the second highest charting single the week the album came out, the company should have saw that and ran with it. IDNHU shouldnt have been a 4th or 5th single, it was fun and catchy but it seemed like a step backwards for her.
January 8, 201015 yr Author Yeah, sorry, meant the AMA's. IMO the perfect single choice should have been: 01 - My Life 02 - Already Gone 03 - If I Can't Have You 04 - Impossible 05 - Don't Let Me Stop You
January 8, 201015 yr Should have released Already Gone and If I Can't Have You as the 2nd and 3rd singles.
January 10, 201015 yr The era isn't over yet - there's still time to recover. It'll be hard but possible. She's only at single #3 so if her label get their arses in gear she can be as big as she was 4-5 years ago... First she needs to release If I Can't Have You (those types of songs are huge atm and it would totally blow up..) and it'd do great. Then release Cry or Save You in the spring - they'd also be hits with enough promo. Finally for the summer, I'd go with All I Ever Wanted, Long Shot or Don't Let Me Stop You. (AIEW would do the best IMO). If RCA decide to promo those really well she'd be back to her usual chart storming self. LET ME BE HER MANAGER FFS!

Tbf... Already Gone (at least in the US) was released round about the same time that she was touring...
January 27, 201015 yr I think this era should have went in a another direction all together. She should have released her first single and the album around the summer and ended the era around March this year. I would have went with these songs to be singles: 1: My life would suck without you (July 2009) 2: Long shot (September 2009) 3: Cry (November 2009) 4: Don't let me stop you (January 2010) 5: Impossible (March 2010) I would have released the singles within 2 months of each other so the album would have been consistently selling. I would have chosen those months as stated above to release the singles as there is little competiton around that time. For the album release, I would have personally released it 2 weeks after the first single. That way, the single would have been selling and the anticipation for the album would have built over those 2 weeks.
January 27, 201015 yr Author Long Shot is an inferior version of IDNHU IMO, and Cry, while a lovely ballad is trumped by the epic 'Already Gone.' 'Impossible' is a lovely track and would have done well as an era-closer, while 'DLMSTY' is perhaps one of my favourite Kelly songs to date.
