Posted December 21, 200915 yr I don't know if any of you will be particularly interested in this, but. Every year when the various major music publications put out their 'best of the year' lists, I put them together partly for interest and partly to help with stock choice and promotion at the library where I work. The rules are - 1. The more lists an album features in, the higher up it goes 2. Within that, the higher up an album is in *any one* list, the higher up it goes, and 3. No album can appear higher on this chart than it does in any individual publication's list. [in other words rule 2 supercedes rule 1 in circumstances where that might otherwise occur] Does that make sense to anyone at all other than me?! Anyway, this is the top 10 for this year, combining Q, Uncut, Mojo, Rough Trade and NME's 'albums of the year' lists. The numbers afterwards show their placing from those individual publications. 1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion :: 4 / 1 / 1/ 11/ 5 2. The Horrors - Primary Colours :: 39 / 20 / 4 / 3 / 1 3. Florence and the Machine - Lungs :: 2 / 16 / 7 / 25 / 26 4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz! :: 3 / 9 / 10 / 12 / 3 5. Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca :: 33 / 3 / 16 / 52 / 20 6. Richard Hawley - Truelove's Gutter :: 38 / 42 / 3 / 42 / 44 7. Wild Beasts - Two Dancers :: 41 / 5 / 32 / 21 / 4 8. Fever Ray :: 20 / 12 / 18 / 4 / 9 9. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest :: 13 / 8 / 13 / 6 / 6 10. f*** Buttons - Tarot Sport :: 37 / 36 / 8 / 8 / 8 Other placings available on request! Edited December 21, 200915 yr by WesWhite

December 22, 200915 yr Thanks for taking the time to compile all the lists into one :) I thought about buying that Kasabian album...........
December 22, 200915 yr Quite a predictable top 2 I guess, but still interesting to see them all combined! Especially pleased the Arctics made it so high overall - criminally underrated album. :( Didn't think Florence would be so high though! ;o Thanks for this, Wes. :D
December 22, 200915 yr Manics seemed to do very well critically but I was disappointed in that album. It does pick up half way thought but the start is rubbish. I though Lungs wasn't great at all apart from some of the singles. Bat for Lashes and Joanna Newsom do this sort of stuff alot better. I think it's funny that Q didn't like The XX at all.
December 22, 200915 yr Great to see the horrors at number 2 - that's my fav of the year. I bought 10 of the top 20!
December 22, 200915 yr Author I though Lungs wasn't great at all apart from some of the singles. Bat for Lashes and Joanna Newsom do this sort of stuff alot better. I find with Florence that I think she's fantastic one day, and then a few days later I'll hear the same song, same performance, and think it's awful -- or vice versa. I must admit I haven't heard the album though, just the singles and some lives. I'll post the rest of the combined list up tonight or later this week -- there'll be one for the decade too but I'm waiting for Mojo to publish, I assume they're going to do one of those in their next issue.

December 22, 200915 yr Not seen any of these lists before, but i'm surprised at Julian Casablancas, Vivian Girls and The Decemberists being not there/so low. I would've thought Tiranriwen would be way too niche to reach the top 20. I mean, they're an african blues group from Mali.

It is an astonishing album though, if it was English language I think it would have been even higher. Uncut made it their 'Album of the Year' in a separate thing (quite why that's only enough to get to 5 on their end-of-year list is beyond me) Q had U2 and Mika's albums top 20? :wacko: Yep, that's Q for you...
