Per this week's ChartsPlus, they seem confident that the sales week 27/12/09-2/1/10 (chart dated 9/1/10) will be included in the 2009 YTD totals.

Even so, I can't see Ladg G's 'Pokerface' being seriously threatened - it'll be up to around 880k by then, and I cannot see Joe M selling >430k in two weeks. RATM certainly won't be a threat, given how their sale are collapsing now.

I'm pretty sure sales up to and including Saturday 26th December are for 2009, after that are for 2010.

This is Week 52 for the OCC.

Haha, I made a similar post in the midweeks thread without having seen this first.

I don't see the logic for 27th December '09 - 2nd January '10 counting towards 2009. Last year, the equivalent week of 28th December '08 - 3rd January '09 counted towards 2009, not 2008.

If ChartsPlus take that stance, then what about the end-of-year chart played on Radio One on the 27th December?

No it wasn't. It was counted as 2008.

i think that's what he meant.

I don't think it was. BUT it should be noted that 1st January 2005 counted towards 2004. I remember there was controversy, because Scissor Sisters overtook Keane to become the best-selling album of the "year" on 1st Jan (the last day of the sales year). Meaning Keane were technically the best-selling album of the year during the actual year 2004, but officially it was Scissor Sisters. I don't know where the cut-off point for this year is though.

This time last year the sales counted towards 2008 and that was weekending 3 days into 2009.

So I would assume the same this year as only 2 days into 2010 is the weekending date.

No, it was counted as 2009. The Sunday 4th January 2009 chart was the first YTD of 2009. This year, equivalent Sunday 3rd January 2010 they're counting as the last week of counting for EOY 2009. They're making it a 53 week 2009 for some reason.

on wikipedia poker face has already been listed as 2009's best-selling single

The sales week Sunday 27th December to Saturday 2nd January belongs to 2009 because FIVE (27 28 29 30 31 1 2) of the days are in 2009.

The earliest a sales week can count towards a New Year is one beginning on the 29th December, because most of the week (4/7 days) falls in the next year (29 30 31 1 2 3 4).

Therefore the first sales week of 2010 commences from Sunday 3rd January until Saturday 9th January i.e. the chart for the week-ending 16/01/10. ^_^

that would give 2009 53 weeks, which is too much. plus, as stated above...

the end of year chart, radio one, 27th december...

Not at all, 52 weeks, and Radio One always do the YE chart a week early.

no, to count until 2nd january would be 53 weeks. that isn't being disputed. that is fact.

The only fact is that you're wrong.

Darren-5-08 is actually right that 2009's EOY is going to have 53 weeks contributing towards it.

Sunday 4th January 2009 - Week 1

Sunday 27th December 2009 - Week 52

Sunday 3rd January 2009 - Week 53

That's why there's been such a discussion about it, because it's fairly unusual.
