January 4, 201015 yr yeah the christmas day is an arkward one as i don't really like putting the tv on, when its surposed to be with family. The tv didn't go on until Doctor Who was on. But really, i think the figures are pretty alright really
January 4, 201015 yr Surely if they brought back TOTP on BBC3 it'd be one of the channels top rated programmes with viewing figures like those...
January 4, 201015 yr The problem is with the Chrimbo one, is it's ALWAYS one when people are eating their dinners and stuff! I'm ALWAYS missing it down to eating my dinner at the time.
January 4, 201015 yr What was the difference between the Christmas TOTP and the New Years Eve TOTP? I thought the New Years Eve one was going to be the hits of 2000-2009. Are they going to start showing TOTP every week??
January 4, 201015 yr Are they going to start showing TOTP every week?? I hope so. It really is time imo. The show declined because young people lost interest in mainstream music, but that just isn't the case anymore. Sunday evenings on BBC1 would work well I think.
January 4, 201015 yr For many, many years, Christmas Day Top of the Pops was a chance to see all the number ones of that year - great viewing on BBC1 at 2pm, I watched it religiously, in the days before MTV and all the music channels, it was brilliant. In the last few years, number 2 hits snook onto the program as well. But this year? What a joke. The Sugababes singing 'Santa Baby', and Diversity dancing to a medley of Michael Jackson songs. The biggest seller of the year, Poker Face', got a brief mention during a summary. Without doubt, the worst Christmas day TOTP, a major disappointment.
January 4, 201015 yr If they brought back TOTP the BBC would seriously have to think about how they would brand the show. The Xmas/New Years special didn't cater for a broad audience. So whilst the kids would be happy, the over 40s would be grumbling thinking "this is just NOISE, why don't you lot listen to music". For TOTP to work it'd have to cater for all tastes. So if Dame Vera Lynn is no. 1 in the albums charts, don't be ashamed to play on of her songs. If 50k people buy the album, surely that says everything. Just don't start the show with a song dropping 6-18, then spend the next 20 minutes playing songs that were top 5 four weeks ago. -_- That probably killed TOTP off back in the mid-late 90s. They focused more on who was presenting TOTP rather than who was performing. **sigh**
January 4, 201015 yr I really think they should bring it back, but they would need the right people to work on the show and give the show a proper time slot,
January 5, 201015 yr Author I still think that Saturday teatime would be the perfect slot for it should it ever come back on a regular basis.
January 14, 201015 yr Author I've just read that the TOTP2 was watched by 3.5m viewers and was the 4th most watched programme on BBC2 w/e 27th December.
January 14, 201015 yr I was briefly excited a year or so ago when Simon Cowell wanted to bring back the show, but thinking back, that would be even worse. A typical show would consist of Joe, Leona, Alexandra, JLS, Cheryl Cole, and all his other acts...
January 14, 201015 yr Does anyone have the article from this week's Music Week about this? Does it say anything interesting?

It shouldn't be a primarily a teen pop show, as music is loved by all ages. If an artist that has an older fanbase makes the chart, they should get exposure on the show. Not bad ratings for the specials too, there certainly is an audience for it.
January 14, 201015 yr I really think they should bring it back, but they would need the right people to work on the show and give the show a proper time slot, Yes i agree, i think it should be a mix of both Radio 1 and 2 DJs on rotation, or maybe have a two presenters each week, one from R1 and another from R2. R2 could have the likes of Chris Evans, Zoe Ball, Steve Wright, Janice Long, Mark Radcliffe on rotation, while R1 well could have the pick of their DJs particularly Scott Mills, Chris Moyles, Greg James, Fearne & Reggie, etc.
