The thing is though, although I love The Sats, they seem to think they're alot bigger than they actually are. They're taking advantage at the moment of the fact they haven't got alot of rivalry (*cough* Girls Aloud *cough*) but in 3 months their album has sold what Girls Alouds last album sold in 3 days.
But Ego will have sold about 100k in total today, so that's hardly bad at all. If it doesn't drop like a bomb the record company would be insane to drop them. The only time they need to worry is if they aren't getting top10s and not sticking around the singles chart for x weeks. They probably can pay off their debts through singles sales and pa's but I doubt each girl will make anything, but if they love what they are doing they'll continue.

100k is no where near enough for a single though. Most singles loose money, they only work if they promote the album well or if they become huge sellers (500,000+ copies probably), none of The Sats singles this era have done this.

100k, most of which are downloads at 99p, would probably only make around £150k. From that you have to pay for the video (the dancers, directors, studio time, hair, make up etc.), artwork, distribution and manufacturing costs of the physical cd and any live performances (hair, make up, transport, etc.)

...but Girls Aloud had The X Factor to promote their new single/album. Plus, 'The Promise' was a great pop song that appealed to a wider audience. A solid choice for lead single compared to 'Forever Is Over' which would've put people off. Not so much the immediate fans, but those people who - for eg - bought 'Chasing Cars' last week. Ie; people who don't follow individual artists but buy a song purely because they like it. Or even the album after hearing a couple of tracks and thinking it's a worthwhile purchase.

It's album only, so you have to download the whole of the Avatar soundtrack.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Guess I'll have to wait and see if its gets released on its own then.

I despise the Sidney Sampson track but at least it's 79p and not a 99p rip-off. It's crazy how nearly every track on the chart is 99p. When the change came where tracks can alternate between 59p, 79p and 99p, i thought finally i can get something a bit cheaper. God, i was naive.

Although arguably, the Sidney track is still a rip-off as long as you have to pay for it

I'm sure you can find it online for free if you look ha. It won't be released on it's own.

They have invested a heck of a lot of money in The Saturdays just to drop them. They would lose more money dropping them now than finishing out the campaign.

I dont believe thats true, i think anymore money spent on the campaign will be wasted. Wordshaker is over and the next single is obviously going to flop. You can't make money out of nothing.

Oh no! Justin Bieber slipping down the iTunes chart! :nono:
Hurry up and climb, Owl City! That song NEEDS to be #1

I don't really see how they are wasting money. They are most likely going to have a tour at some point even if it is small venues. Polydor have already confirmed that there will be a third album. They have also confirmed that 'Here Standing' is going to be released next so I think the record company believe that they will not have a loss releasing it. They are most likely more aware of their own finances than you are. I doubt the next single would flop they have yet to have a flop single even Work has sold well.

You are so negative.

Hang on, so is Alexandra :nocheer:

on the topic of wordshaker, the song titles are so un-original, one shot (JLS), noone (alicia keys), lose control (missy eliot), 2am (3am eminem & 4am bashy) and ego (beyonce). Not impressive.

I always thought that too lol..

Sats had forever is over.. and Everybody in Love was meant to be called Forever and a day but was changed.. probably because of the similar titles

& now One Shot

It's not really about what the fans want though. The core fanbase will buy no matter what. It's about the general public. I agree with that poster. They are very un-original titles. I doubt it's a huge factor though. Wordshaker would stand out far mor as a song title - which would help give the album some recognition for obvious reasons.

But the song is a lesser 'Work' pretty much, it wouldn't do anything...
