Posted January 11, 201016 yr Florence fights the Vampires for number one slot 10:59 | Tuesday January 12, 2010 By Ben Cardew Albums Vampire Weekend could secure their first UK number one album this Sunday, if they can survive competition from the ubiquitous Florence + The Machine. The US band’s second album Contra (XL) has opened up a slender lead over Florence’s Lungs (Island), which last Sunday equalled its peak chart position of two. However, with Lungs providing three top 75 singles last week in the shape of You’ve Got The Love, Dog Days Are Over and Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) – all of which feature on numerous TV campaigns and should remain in the top 75 this Sunday – the momentum is clearly with Florence and it looks set to be a closely-fought battle. Paolo Nutini’s Sunny Side Up (Atlantic) is also only a few thousand sales off Contra, while You Me At Six’s Hold Me Down (Virgin) and Delphic’s Acolyte (Polydor) should also secure top ten places on their first week of release. Singles On the singles chart, Iyaz’s Replay (Reprise) looks set to retain the number one slot with Sidney Samson’s Riverside (Data) a good bet for another week at two, although Owl City’s massive US hit Fireflies is set to challenge for a top two placing. Plan B’s Stay Too Long (Pendulum remix) (679) should be the highest new entry in the singles chart this Sunday, with a top ten place on the cards.
