January 23, 201015 yr Sharleen Spiteri returns with a brand new album 'The Movie Songbook' featuring all her favourite soundtrack songs from movies. The idea for came about while touring 'Melody', when Sharleen found herself invited to perform various star cameos, be it covering Yvonne Elliman's 'If I Can't Have You' at the BBC Electric Proms Saturday-Night Fever anniversary concert or duet ting with Italian singer Mauro Gioia on a version of the love theme from The Godfather. "That's where it started," says Sharleen. "I realised that things were coming full circle. When we formed Texas, we took our name from a film - Paris, Texas. And here I was all these years later singing these film songs. Suddenly the idea of a whole album of songs from movies just seemed like a great and fun thing to do." Enlisting 15 time Grammy award-winner Phil Ramone on production (who has produced various Hollywood legends from Marilyn Monroe to Frank Sinatra via Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand); 'The Movie Songbook' was recorded in just 8 days at the legendary Capital Studios in Hollywood with the help of the finest soundtrack session musicians around.. and the result is a fantastic collection of cinematic show stoppers. "Making this album has taught me that my true voice lies in this area and not to be scared of using it," she agrees. "In the past I've always tended to go into a soul area but this experience has been great in taking me places I'd never normally go. It's been a valuable lesson in other styles and new ways of working. I feel excited about taking that forward into Texas and wherever it is we go next." 1. Xanadu 2. If I Can't Have You 3. God Bless The Child 4. Between The Bars 5. The Sound Of Silence 6. What's New Pussycat? 7. The Windmills Of Your Mind 8. Take Me With You 9. Cat People (Putting Out Fire) 10. Many Rivers To Cross 11. O' Pretty Woman 12. This One's From The Heart 13. Take My Breath Away
January 24, 201015 yr I'm disappointed in all of this tbh, I was really looking forward to new material from her.
January 27, 201015 yr Xanadu?! It's so frustrating. She's talented but this is a really horrific project (and the first 60s pastiche album was bad too). Just make something as great as Red Book.
January 27, 201015 yr I'm hugely disappointed in her. I know Texas have been heading for the scrapheap slowly in recent years, but I don't like seeing Sharleen having to resort down the Rod Stewart / Seal path - refusing to leave on a high-point, and resorting to crooning out covers of cheap, obvious and insipid $h!tE. XANADU? FFS.
February 12, 201015 yr Heres the video  http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...&ATTR=Music
February 12, 201015 yr I get it, she's meant to be authenic and old school, and appeal to the Radio 2 listener. But tbh, snore
February 12, 201015 yr I heard Xanadu on the radio earlier this week, its very weak. Not a patch on her stuff from melody album.
March 1, 201015 yr Bought this album today because I love her voice, her last album and Texas, but it's quite cringy in places to be honest  What's New Pussycat!?! some of the productions are quite classy but some are incredibly cheap sounding, If I Can't Have You in particular
