thing is, the contest is ruined by all these "cheap" entries.

this rule should of been here since BJSCI.

I could have sworn you made a post the other day saying you were so pissed off about it?

People are largely eggsagerating the ban list, asking for a list of songs that they actually can send instead is a big eggsageration and they know it, there are hundreds of thousands more songs out there.....

But then again it's still complicated, but the mods do try to help......we should give this a go at least. Even if it was just a trial run.

I'm still a bit curious/cautious about it, I'm wondering if it will really change anything at all.....but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be given a trial run at least.

It seems to me people are only bothered about other people hyping songs to the point where they are "predictable winners"... but we can stop that by stopping people from talking about entries in the Final/semi-final threads etc... (Stopping the odds thread until the final too) and to making them comment on people's entries in that countries respective NF thread. At the end of the day that is what they're there for...

*awaits for this point to get overlooked*

Also I think the Mods should open a thread and ask people if they agree certain songs should be banned, due to cheapness etc... and then that way at least it's not JUST the mods decision.

THIS tbh. <3

SO GLAD i wasn't chosen as the mod btw. :heehee:

I'm glad I become a mod of ESC and not BJSC :kink:

I was taking the p***.

anyone who needs to ask for sogns they can enter shouldnt be entering this contest, if you cant find music outside of the chart and what is played on radio 1 you should broaden your horizon more.

I trust you were referencing Jonjo's second point rather than his first, because when it comes to hyping songs that you like/want to do well, you're the best at doing it :kink:

Well, i saw you hyping Caesar at first this time so i decided to start a bandwagon by following your example :kink:

I don't remember actually hyping many winners or songs that went Top 3  As you know the ones i hype shall not see both bronze and silver nevermind golden medal :drama:

 Caesar was abandoned as soon as I listened to Story!

so true, but it's all hype - the 'unknown' songs I saw most hype for this time were Caesar, Zombie and Dust In Gravity - and they all came top ten - a lot of my odds are always based on comments/hype I've seen around the forum :o I think most people here are guilty of commenting about songs that they like/have discovered before the final voting is announced - in fact, the forum might be rather dead if discussion of other people's entries was banned

So funny i didn't think about that  NF threads discussion will probably work but only about quarter of all people at best check others' national threads anyway! :(

I can only speak for myself and don't know if anybody else feels similar but I do like to try and send something fresh, something that won't just be a discovery to others but which has recently been one for me as well, so that I'm still passionate about the song and am able to support it 100%

I think that's the general feel. Sending something that isn't relatively new puts you at a disadvantage as your song can be found dated by voters. Personally, I don't care whether it's from 2010 or 2000, as long as it still sounds good, but I wouldn't send anything old than about two years. (Brandy excluded)

Well, as long as it's new to voters then I don't think there's any disadvantage - as Sabre said, Margaret Berger's song was two years old at the time it was sent to IX, but still sounded spectacularly fresh! (Indeed, still does )
I think we should make BJSC anonymous. It would eradicate all problems. :)

If it's been implemented for at least one contest it'd be REALLY great i think... at least out of curiousity.

It just wouldn't work at all. People would tell each other who they were over MSN/PM etc.

plus the appearance of people's own entries in their personal charts would rather give the game away too...

I totally agree. It would stop a lot of the nonsense (all the hype "X is the best thing since sliced bread, the new Lady GaGa/Girls Aloud/Rihanna/Britney/P!nk"; etc, "your act is cheap", "no its not", "that's not fair", blah blah blah) that is occurring.

Here is what could be used:

You could have it where the host nation announces the day of nominations and then posters have a 24 Hour block to nominate (and here is the controversial bit) just one act and song to be entered (first come (PM'd) first served with the nomination).

But if say three, five or more countries nominate the same artist/act and song, then that entry cannot be used for obvious reasons due to so many posters wanting the same entry then it clearly falls foul of one of the issues this whole thread has been discussing due to the same posters unwittingly proving it is an uninspired selection.

Then after this 24 Hour period the host could announce the artist/songs entered (and if applicable what artist/song has become banned for the contest), and those who have missed out will have time to nominate another entry taking into account that already 20+ entries have been selected which they can no longer select as their entry.

As for voting in SF's; Again the host could send out PM's notifying them which SF to vote in (obviously not being able to vote for themselves).

You could always have a blank place in your chart, like Radio 1 used to do in the past with banned records such as Je T'aime; God Save The Queen; etc.

I really doubt that people would take to doing this, I know I wouldn't

and at #1 for a third week - it's [blank space]

would look ridiculous in the personal charts forum  :(

I don't agree with the entire contest being anonymous, it would take away alot of the fun I think. But actually this procedure for nominating and confirming entries sounds like a brilliant idea to me!! If I ever host, I would be more than willing to try it out. The only bit I would differ from here is that after the confirmations are final, it could then be made public who has what entry and which semis people are in.

But you're right, that certainly would eliminate alot of uninspired entries and would be a fairer way of coming up with a list each month of banned entries.

I also think it sounds like an excellent idea, for all the reasons you list, although I'd leave the confirming window open slightly longer than 24 hours, just in case somebody's not able to get to a computer in that time frame, or at least be allowed to ask somebody else to pm the host on your behalf

would certainly reduce cheap - I'd limit it at 3 - if 3 or more people all wanted the same song it would be banned - this way the mods aren't choosing the banlist, the people are...and it would add an element of risk to the whole thing if you were wanting to go for a cheap choice which might put people off such things anyway, having to go settle for sending something second best if you like

would love it if we could trial these rules actually!
