Oh you people are missing the point at least the Daily Mail readers have some perspective.

This single is NOT about charity it is about Simon Cowells ego and him bagging another number one.

Rihanna released Redemption Song a suttle cover for Haiti with ALL proceeds going to Haiti. There was no media fanfare, no media manipulation by stating there are rumours of about 500 stars going to be on the single.

The whole thing is a media exercise to paint Simon Cowell as some sort of martyr.

The single is barely going to make more than 1 million pounds so stop making out they are doing such a great job. A million pounds is nothing to Simon Cowell.

He ruined the past decade in music and he is about to ruin another one.

Well I'd never use the Daily Mail comments section to give an accurate representation of ANY topic!

I really don;t see any problem with it, you're not going to be forced to buy it. There are lots of people out there however who will listen to what Simon, Cheryl and these "stars" say, if they're using their power to get people to donate then I say good on them.

And who is to say they haven't donated personally themselves? I know if they came out and said they had or made a big deal about donating thesmelves they'd be criticised - can't really win there, can they?

 They could have donated privately or done a telethon like US stars instead of inflicting another horrific cover on us. We already have had You Are Not Alone and The Climb butchered in the past three months do we really need Everybody Hurts butchered aswell.

Sadly, it looks like this Decade will see a Top 10, (of the Decade), that is

full of Charity Covers, & Reality TV Winners. None of which is good for

Music. (As regards the Charity Singles - it is all because many rich people

cannot give to Charity unless we ALL know about it).

You mean like last decade? Wasn't the Top 10 (bar Kylie) full of Reality winners & Charity singles?

How do you know they haven't donated privately? No one knows if they did it privately. Oh and i'm pretty sure Simon will give quite a bit of his own money to the charity. He just wants the public to get something (albeit a shit version) quite small, for giving money to something so huge.

I don't get why people who are complaining don't just, not buy the record if they're so against him doing it and just donate the money (like TiP says he does) straight to the charity. Who cares if the song will be everywhere on your radio, change station when it comes on, or put a CD of your own in... surely it's not that hard to get around it...

Firstly, that is the point everyone is making last decade was full of $h!t reality tv singles and charity singles we don't want a repeat.

I'm not saying they didn't donate privately. I stated that they should donate privately if they want and not put us through another tripe cover.

Yeh I'm really sure Simon Cowell is going through all this effort just so the public can have a gift

Please the song will be impossible to avoid even if I never wanted to hear it I still would.

No one cares that they are doing a charity single WE ARE FED UP OF AWFUL COVERS.

The song won't be impossible to avoid at all. (Unless someone has it blasting out their car in a traffic jam or something - which lets face it is highly unlikely ) I managed to avoid 'You Are Not Alone' when I wanted so it's not "impossible" at all. I quite like getting something for money (as I'm sure other people do to) as I also donate freely to charity anyway. So once in a while it's nice to actually get something in return.

And your last point, is not true. You're all too bothered about it because Simon Cowell (God Forbid) is behind the song. Yes you'd all probably say "Fair do's it's an original song he's doing etc..." but you'd all still say you wouldn't like it and stuff, even before hearing who was in the line-up, and before hearing the song. It's all because Simon Cowell got asked to do it. Had the roles been reversed and (I know it'd never happen) Jay-Z, Bono and Chris Martin did the cover and Simon did the original (again LOL) you'd all go for the Jay-Z one more and still find some way of putting Cowell down. (I know what I'm trying to say i'm just shit at wording things.)

ERGH this makes me come off all Cowell Loony-fied, I'm far from that.

It will be impossible to avoid. It will be on every music channel, every radio station, every news item. EVERYWHERE there will be no way of getting away from it.

No I wouldn't. If they produced a charity song like Just Stand Up! I wouldn't even bother commenting but this is Simon Cowell so we can't ever expect anything original to come from him. If Jay Z was doing a cover version of Everybody Hurts I wouldn't like it either even if I was a Jay Z fan. The other point is the song wouldn't have been overexposed and shoved down our throats like this one is going to be.

The point is Simon Cowell is a horrible vile man. 500,000 people [multiple buyers included] bought a song they never even liked just to prevent him getting to number one. I was not one of those buyers but you get my point. More people in the UK despise Simon Cowell than like him and people on this board will do anything to stick up for him that I'm beginning to think they are on his payroll.

According to The Sun ( I know) REM are "deeply touched" that 'Everybody Hurts' is the single...

From this article they have:

Leona, Cheryl Cole, JLS & Michael Buble - Confirmed

George Michael, Robbie Williams, Sir Paul McCartney, Take That & Coldplay - In Talks

Florence & The Machine, Will Young, N-Dubz & Joe McElderry - Expressed Interest

With modern technology all artists will not have to be in the studio at the same time. Hm is this a new thing cos I thought this had been possible for years lol.

I love how they say a glittering array of stars then proceed to mention Leona Lewis and JLS.

It’s pretty sad that they can’t raise the money without a lame charity single. As great a tragedy as the horrific events in Haiti are, I can’t help thinking that, if this hadn’t happened in America’s ‘back yard’ there wouldn’t be so much attention on this. 12 years ago there were a similar number of fatalities resulting from an earthquake in Afghanistan, yet it didn’t even make the top of the headlines with everyone too busy reporting Geri Halliwell had left the Spice Girls. :manson:

Organised in hysteria seems to be on clockwork 13 year cycles; famine 84, Dianna 97, earthquake 10... The US and others would have plenty of money to give for the relief effort and reconstruction if they hadn’t wasted trillions on pointless wars, and allowing a few greedy bankers to gamble with the world’s economies.

A download of this cynical MOR charity single, is just another boost to the ego of Cowell; a genuine donation direct to the aid charities would speak louder in volumes than being spoon fed this utter drivel.

There are people suffering horrifically all over the world right now. Just not on a scale large enough to warrant the, every 13 year, collective purge of, 1st world, guilt by buying a dire charity record supported by some tripe on the idiot box. :nocheer:
People really don't see the point of charity singles in here, it is actually quite worrying tbh.

There are better ways of donating money to charity than through a single.

How can I be sure the money will even go to Haiti.

When Simon Cowell is involved.

because we would know about it if they were.

how would we know?

Ugh.

Yes we know there are other ways and many of us have done so and will continue to do so.

But this allows people who might not the chance to do their bit. And sadly there are people who think "well at least I get something in return."

And get over the Simon thing for gods sake. With VAT/Royalties being waived etc there is no way 100% of this isn't going to charity.

Yes there is but most people don't like giving money to something unless they get something for it, it gives poorer people an opportunity to give when normally they wouldn't because they can't afford to just give money away.

Your money will go to Haiti because Simon has got the government involved as well as high profile artists and I'm sure none of them would have joined if Simon was going to get money out of it.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the people involved in the song have given money to the charity already.
