January 22, 201015 yr I completely disagree. Take the example of David Bowie (my musical hero) after he did that dodgy cover of the Motown classic "Dancing In The Street" for Band/Live Aid in 1985 he announced that he would never do another Charity single, which he kept his word on. Because he saw the way certain acts gained the benefit on profile and record sales after appearing at Live Aid and disapproved of it. He famously (amongst Bowie fans) had a fall out out with Freddie Mercury & Queen because he felt they should of donated royalties from the sales boost that they made from Live Aid to the charity but they did not. However, it is very well known within media/music circles that David Bowie has donated significant sums to numerous charity events instead of pollute the airwaves on another charity record. That is yet another reason to respect his class/greatness/genius. Then take the example of Lady GaGa who announced that she would donate $250,000 to the Haitian disaster fund = another class act. Or the example of Radiohead, who are doing a gig in LA on 24th January with an auction going on at the moment to get tickets for the event; then for those unable to attend the live performance will be available to buy legally on downloads = all the money raised is going to the disaster fund = another class act. Please note none of those acts went hand in hand with the fukkin Scum newspaper (as a Liverpool FC supporter I will forever hate that rag that I would not even wipe my ass with) to gain maximum publicity in the UK ensuring more than a fair show of his own acts appear on the record and at the same time destroy a once classic pop song. Then cynically delay the release to ensure JedWard get a one week stab at UK#1. I'm sorry but in my language that is blatant cynical exploitation. I have to agree with every word. It just bother me when apparently under the word "charity" the musical acts are making a lot of publicity for themself and buying themselves as "angels". There are many way to make a class charity , you have put some here. For example i loved the CIN idea of Gary Barlow but i hated the Kilimanjaro thing.

Hey wait a sec.. what about The Children In Need single A Perfect day where he sung along with Heather Small, Boyzone etc.
January 22, 201015 yr I was also wondering that about David Bowie. He did participate in the 'Perfect Day' charity single.
January 23, 201015 yr I don't think I'll bother with this single ... I cannot stand that song! Norma Really Norma? I adore this song, i already shrugs at the idea that it will be killed with this multi-cover.... I saw REM live, one of the highlight of my life. Stipe has a wonderful voice live!
January 23, 201015 yr I was also wondering that about David Bowie. He did participate in the 'Perfect Day' charity single. Yes, but initially that was only meant to be a BBC promo only video (where each of the acts in question were paid the minimum £250 appearance fee). But then due to public demand it got turned into a Charity single for CIN. Indeed the BBC got Rolf Harris to sing David Bowie's part for the charity single before David Bowie agreed to his use on the record as he explained on Bowie.net at the time the reasons why he changed his stance on this one off occasion: 1. The record is a beautiful piece of art musically & visually. 2. The juxtaposition of a song romanticising addiction to heroin for this cause is highly interesting and slightly amusing. 3. The ecletic mix of artists on this record (from Boyzone & Heather Small to Burning Spear, Laurie Anderson, Emmylou HarriS & the Brodsky Quartet) makes it something very unique & precious like the BBC itself. The very fact that in the last five years both The Word Magazine & Pitchfork.com rate this track as the best charity record of all time is surely proof of that.
January 23, 201015 yr Mika, SuBo and Take That confirmed. Alexandra said to be flying back from Europe on Monday to record
January 23, 201015 yr I don't think I'll bother with this single ... I cannot stand that song! Norma Oh dear, it looks like you wont be thrilled by this news then ..... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...ity-single.html

Stipe has a wonderful voice live! I don't mind REM and I like a couple of their songs ... I just don't like this one. Its one of those that if it comes on the radio ... I'll switch over to something else ... or just switch off. I really don't like charity songs. I don't mind events and fundraisers but not records. I'll forgive the Band Aid single as it was an original and it did lead to that fantastic concert the following year. But as far as these types of songs are concerned, call me cynical, but they're all just photo opportunities for all those involved. I'll donate in my usual way I just won't clutter up my cd shelf with this rubbish. Norma
January 23, 201015 yr I saw that you were called a Tool by an administrator of this forum, and i apologise on his behalf. You are only being bullied off this board if you leave. Bullies respond to strength. Do NOT leave as you feel that you have been unfairly treated. In all fairness to them, they have only been giving as good as they get. I say this as an unbias party with no agenda at all. [i moderate the Sugababes AF, Lily Allen AF, BJSC and Reality TV. No connections to chart chat] This forum is a fantastic site, if you haven't already had a chance to explore the rest of it, please do. You will find a forum full of new songs, interesting people and discussions on topics from the new Gabriella Cilmi single to the Haiti earthquake to Big Brother to Glee to Ciara's Fantasy Ride and to the off topic centre that is the lounge. Seriously mate, if you come back calmer, with a better attitude and a calmer approach to your posts i'm very confident that you'll find that people will alter their approach to you. Trust me, i wasn't always a moderator of this forum, i was once an overly passionate poster who needed a bit of an attitude adjustment. Wow Silas - You really do make this place sparkle  :cheer: Does anyone have a full list of whose been confirmed yet? Edited January 23, 201015 yr by Spiral
January 23, 201015 yr Oh dear, it looks like you wont be thrilled by this news then ..... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...ity-single.html Nope! Not even Take That can interest me in this one (I actually knew they were involved in it anyway). And no - my reasons are I don't like these kinds of songs (half the people involved here have bragged at one time or another that they can knock out a song in 30 minutes or so ... so why don't they write a new song). There are too many voices involved ... its looking like one of these modern day Primary School Nativity plays where there are more kids on the stage than parents in the audience! And I'm just a miserable old git! Norma

I even bought 'Perfect Day' on cd single at the time. The extra two tracks on the cd were also 'Perfect One'; one consisting of just female artists (although Boyzone's backing vocals are still heard on this...doh!!! :D ) and the other just male artists. It is easily one of the most unique charity singles ever made. Moreso than Band Aid 'Do They Know It's Christmas' even if the latter sold 3 times as many copies.
January 23, 201015 yr Among the Acts 'confirmed' for the Single, are no less than 6 with Simon Cowell connections, in one way or another:, Westlife, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, & JLS. Mr. Cowell always manages to promote his Acts & Mates. It is true. Even a Charity Single is used in the same way - attention for Acts whom Simon has connections with. Some people say that Cheryl does not count - but, she does. She's a Judge on 'X Factor' - so, she is part of Simon's connections. Of course, it would be too much to ask if they skipped the Single, & just gave large donations out of all their, (very big), Bank Balances.....But, you don't get No.1 Singles, & lots of Press attention, that way.....
January 23, 201015 yr Most of the people in this thread have the grow up. It's fukking tedious reading through all the pages full of crap. If you wan't to debate it, there's a Perspective Forum, (Should Simon Cowell release a single for charity or not? ) or whatever. & anyway. Hopefully they can get some better artists on board, and it would be interesting to see if Dannii Minouge gets invited to sing on the track. [& for thisispop, I really loved the 'Dancing In The Street' cover :heehee:]

January 23, 201015 yr Why haven't they asked the rest of Girls Aloud? That would be more fitting. Hearing Cheryl in between Leona, Alexandra and SuBo will really highlight how very average her voice is.
January 23, 201015 yr If I am not mistaken is the original of Everybody Hurts more like talking and low notes rather than alot of technical singing and belting out big notes.I think Simon will make sure Cheryl gets a portion of the song that does not embarass her or hurt our ears. How many more acts are going to sign up out of the goodness of their hearts, I am sure half of them could not find Haiti on a map.I am really not sure what Rod Stewart and Cheryl are even doing on a charity single for Haiti, they do know what the people look like dont they.

They can't find Haïti on a map? And then? Does it prevent them from having compassion for the people we see dying on TV news every hour? I don't get your point at all. And now what's your problem with Cheryl? You already pick on her vocal ability while we still have to hear the single. And still, it's a f***ing CHARITY single, could people stop their bashing for a while. People are dying in Haïti, and here you get people acting like boiled children critising the single choice or the artists taking part in it. This is disgusting.
