Anyone want to have a rough guestimate at what potential sales figures we are looking at for this? There was a lot of talk it could be bigger than Band Aid. Band Aid sold around 3.5 million. Could it really be bigger than that? Considering the biggest selling single last decade was only 1.8 million by Will Young?

What sort of sales prediction could it achieve? A million+ maybe?

I'm just curious you see as theres an awful lot of big acts and awful lot of hype. So it could be anything?

Absolutely no way it will 3.5 million. I doubt it will sell more than a million.

But it could definitely outsell Band Aid 20 atleast.

There does seem to be a lot of ill-will towards it so it may not be as big as people think.
I hope it’s more of a fleeting ‘You’re Not Alone’ than a ‘Hallelujah’ type seller; less than 750k would at least give someone else a chance of getting the biggest seller of the year.
Wow, people are expecting this much from this? I was thinking about the same as a normal charity single, over 500k but less than 1m.
There is Final list of who is singing in it and when it will be release?

Indeed. Great minds and all that. :P

No chance whatsoever of it even coming close to Band Aid

That was unique in its time but now there is charity overload with Comic Relief, Children In Need, X Factor charity single and $h!tloads of other charity appeals in this country every year so there is a lot more charity fatigue than there was in Band Aid days

If I was a betting man it will be somewhere between 750,000-1.2m

It will be interesting to see how well the US 'Hope For Haiti Now' single sells.

It's Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge and Rihanna and it's called 'Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour) - Version 1.0'. Currently #40 on iTunes based on a single performance really early in the morning (between 1am and 3am).

Band Aid 1984 was a different era altogether. Even Band Aid 2 in 1989 had average sales figures in comparison selling about 500k by the time it left the chart. Like somebody posted above there's "ill-will" with regards to Simon Cowell's efforts. People know he's already force fed the public two charity singles - one of which really wasn't necessary at all ('You Are Not Alone'). Yes, I understand the concept behind it but it seemed all a bit "it worked last year with 'Hero' so we'll do another one in 2009 for the sheer sake of it".

Because of this, I don't see Cowell's clan's cover of 'Everybody Hurt's being a massive seller. Even if it tops 300k first week its sales will dramatically tail off in week two selling a total of around 750k.

It's actually really good. Just checked it out on YouTube and was impressed. Considering they must've written and recorded the track in 48 hours (?) it's already better than the whole of U2's last album.

Agreed - U2's last album was incredibly dull. But I think this is close to brilliant myself, especially the chorus:

Whilst the Live performance is more evidence to show that Rihanna is becoming a really good singer to match her immediately identifiable vocals.

It made number 1 on US iTunes just 1 HOUR after the performance was shown over there! I think it could go number 1, if they show the performance on a prime time show here. They should scrap JLS on 'So You Think You Can Dance' tonight and just show this performance :heehee: It'd shoot straight to number 1 after that.

:o no way LOL
