*queue the 'he's no Postal Service is he' haters*

I don't think he's any Postal Service but I still think it's a pretty boring song. :P :(

1  (from 2) Owl City - Fireflies [D] *1st week at #1*

Chart Run: 50-2-1 [3 wks]

Brilliant track. Glad to see 'Fireflies' no. 1 in the UK. ^_^ Heard this for the first time last summer and always had that gut feeling it could be a massive hit. Now it is!!! :w00t:

Reggie Yates would be rubbish at playing Poker. For goodness sake his voice gave the game away, and he's supposed to be an actor.

He also said "Iyaz has had a good run at number 1"

But anyway, soooo glad Owl is #1

Well, there doesn't seem to be anything to stop Owl staying at #1 for a second week, as Stranded ain't getting to #1 at the rate it's going. Everybody Hurts will knock it off though.

Anyway, another week, another beautiful song at #1 arguably totally ripping off a duo from the early 2000s. See you guys next week!

we both gave it 12 points in fact :P I've been listening to it for 6 months now and I'm yet to get bored of it...

Well, at least he gets a week there- he could hold on next week, before the Haiti song and Jedward invade the top 2

see you next week, guys!

I love how much stick Owl City get for ripping somebody off

doesn't nearly every act in the chart rip off somebody else, how many acts in this week's top 40 are completely original, and couldn't be compared to anybody else? really not that many...

another great chart week. I can't wait for the next couple weeks. I'm curious to see how Girls Alouds Untouchable will do with their campaign and then see how Sugababes are gonna do with their new single and then cheryl cole. lots of things to come

Likewise, and it's five weeks at no. 1 in my personal chart are deserved. However, Owl City were replaced at no. 1 this weekend by Hurts 'Wonderful Life'. I bet Hurts didn't even make the top 75!!! -_-

Why wasn't 'Wonderful Life' released to iTunes this week? A 12" release wouldn't have done anything to help its chart performance. :(

Plus I hope the songwriters (David Paich & Jeff Porcaro) from 1980s AOR band Toto get the royalties they deserve seeing how they are sueing him due to its "musical similarities" on the Owl City single chorus to this worldwide 1983 smash hit (USA#1, UK#3) verse.

because it's achingly cool to be super indie and keep it's release as minimal as possible as a 'buzz single' with the proper lead single, the inferior Blood, Tears & Gold getting a proper full release in May -_-

wow...

there are millions of other songs that sound more alike than 'Fireflies' and 'Africa'

I can hear vague similarities in the verses but I've heard far worse which people have got away with

Seriously? I've always liked 'Africa' and 'Fireflies' is brilliant but never noticed the similarities until now

I bought the 12" :cheer: I would be surprised if it's even top 100 tbh :snif:

At least this has a week! I'm pretty certain it will hold on next week as well :-)

Is that Haiti album going to be allowed to chart?

It won't be in the main chart as it will count as a compilation.

Oh!!! :(

I watched the video to that on YouTube but, as you say, it's definitely inferior to 'Wonderful Life'. :( I also noticed that the video to 'Wonderful Life' has been removed from Hurts YouTube channel. Haven't a clue why they've done that.

So glad Owl City made #1!

Haha, and apparently Adam Young is shy and doesn't like people!

LOL at the girl who said "I like his voice, it's sort of echo-ey." It's called autotune, love.
