Love this song!

Heardit through my friend who lives in Paris. So damn catchy!

As the lyrics are mainly in English, it probably will be. Good to see Lumidee has had some singing lessons since she last showcased her slightly off key vocals in 'Never Leave You (Ooohh Ooohh)' seven years ago.[/sarcasm] :D
Loving Alors On Danse, came on my iPod on shuffle in the car the other day and sounded great on a sunny day with the windows down[/poser] :heehee:

LOL at Lumidee trying to cash in :P She's like the rap version of Loona

lol. I do like it, although I think the original song is much better.

Also, Alors on danse has been number one everywhere it's been released so far, as I understand it! That's pretty good! :)

#1 officially in Greece, or on Greek iTunes?

The song, so far, has reached #1 in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland, and topped the European chart too.

And it's getting strong airplay in Italy and in the French parts of Canada (i.e. Quebec and some other places) now. But this will likely mean that the English-speaking people in Canada will start hearing the song, and this could be how the song spreads to the USA, and then the rest of the world.

That's cool Eric, how did you hear about Canada? I wonder if they will record a Canadian version though, one word in the lyrics is very offensive in Canadian French

Both. Also reached #1 in Luxembourg.

Please let this be released here! Radio 1 would avoid it like the plague of course but I think word of mouth/TV airplay could somehow help it build up slowly a la 'Memories' - TV were happy to play La Tortura non-stop a few years back anyway.

I have a half-brother who lives in Canada. He's fluent in both French and English. I checked its article on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alors_on_danse) to see if it had anything, and it says:

"On April 1, 2010, "Alors On Danse" was released in Canada, specifically in Québec, where it has quickly become one of the most-played records on "Energie/NRJ" network stations throughout the province. CKOI-FM has also added the song."

It's only two radio stations/networks that are playing the song at the moment, but I think NRJ is quite big. Wikipedia gave no citations for this though.

And it's on it's 4th week at number-one in Europe now! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Europ...ne_hits_of_2010

Oh OK, that's really cool :) Gosses means kids in French French, and bollocks in Canadian French btw

Well Falco hit no. 1 in 1986 in the UK charts with a song entirely in German (well 99% German) thanks to mass hype thanks to Radio 1. I really don't see why Stromae couldn't have a hit in the UK with 'Alors On Danse' without the need of translating lyrics/re-recording vocals.

Also Alizee 'Moi...Lolita' made no. 9 with a song entirely in French. So it's possible but it all depends on Radio 1, or maybe the ego that is Chris Moyles could hype up the track. -_-

and look where La Tortura ended at :P

Wasn't this before songs were able to chart without a physical release here though? It didn't get one, and got no proper push either (was shoved onto the b-side of Illegal instead I think) - just heavy rotation on The Box from what I recall. I was just making the point that TV will support foreign songs, but it needs to be more than one or two channels, and radio would be good too!

Still loving this, like gooddelta said, it could be big here through word of mouth. The best example of foreign language songs last decade was O-Zone and that went top 3! I remember The Box playing that too death as well, it was #1 on Box tops for a while (oh how i used to love box top!). The box really did help make the hits back then.
