Lady Gaga, Eminem, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Barbra Streisand are just a handful of stars that will take part in a re-recording of “We Are the World” to benefit Haiti, producer RedOne told Rolling Stone yesterday at the Grammys. Other artists contributing to the new “We Are the World” — a remake of the 1985 USA for Africa charity single that was co-written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie — include Celine Dion, Fergie, Wyclef Jean, Enrique Iglesias and many more of the artists who attended yesterday’s 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.

“I’m so delighted and so happy to get a dream call from Quincy Jones and Randy Phillips and Lionel Richie,” RedOne told RS. “I know that Lionel Richie has been asked like 150-something times to redo ‘We Are the World’ and he said no to everything until this Haiti thing happened. The moment he saw that it happened he was like, OK, ‘We Are the World.’ And to be one of the people they called to have fresh input to the song, to help produce the song — I have no words.”

According to RedOne, recording of the “We Are the World” remake will take place today in a Los Angeles studio. In addition to the all-star vocal talent, RedOne promises instrumentation from the likes of Orianthi (the guitarist for Michael Jackson’s This Is It show) and other big-name musicians. The AP reports Bono, Jason Mraz, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Hudson and Akon are also slated to appear on the track. “With music you want to help people feel something in a certain way, and this is something devastating that just happened and I am and we are the world,” RedOne said. “We’re going to be helping people that we don’t know. I have Haitian friends and stuff like that, but we’re going to be helping people that need help right now.”

Do you think this remake of the USA For Africa 1985 charity classic might just be better than Simon Cowell's charity record or not?

nice seeing so many relief charity efforts being used- This one could be OK, Especially as SC isnt there- so no key change or choir!

It could be big here, if it gets decent publicity

Wow so many great acts, it'll almost certainly be the bigger worldwide hit, prob a massive #1 in the USA? They have said they will release this asap so it'll be interesting when they release it here. It wouldnt surprise me if Everybody Hurts only gets a week at #1?

I'll reserve judgement until I've heard both. I'm still disappointed that the UK music buying public didn't jump onto the bangwagon that was 'Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour). At least that track performed well in Ireland and as such rasing money for the Haiti disaster.

I expect both 'We Are The World 25' and probably moreso 'Everybody Hurts' to both be two of 2010's biggest selling singles.

The artists involved could record this in their sleep and it'd be better than the inevitible mauling of 'Everybody Hurts'.

I tried not to post another typical moaning post and decided to be slightly more possitive sounding, but I agree with you 100%

Thinking about it, it will probably be out in the USA by the beginning of next week, i wonder if they will wait a week or two for release here otherwise it will clash with Cowell's charity single

If Simon Cowell only cares about chart positions, then his effort is null and void. Would he rather have a no. 1 selling 400k in total, or a no. 2 selling 500k? I bet Simon would choose option 1.

If 'We Are The World 25' was to beat 'Everybody Hurts' to no. 1, but both songs sold in vast quantities then Simon shouldn't complain. He's getting sales so is therefore making money for Haiti. Just that another (better?) charity single for the same cause sold more.

I don't like the sound of either of them. Didn't like either song to begin with.

I think people have bought the album to help... Obviously buying the album would raise a lot more money than just buying one song.

Last night, they were talking about up to 100 artists being involved in the recording of WATW. I don't know if that includes musicians as well as vocalists.
Omg i hope it keeps the original micheal jackson line in it...it was my fave part!!!

This is getting boring now. Can't we just all like donate instead of the charts being raped even further?

I already have donated and I will again many times if it stop these endles monstrotities being released regardless of who appears on them.

As for a remake, the phrase "you can't polish a turd" springs to mind.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Sounds good! Like the US version of \Cowell's everybody hurts....
To be fair, no matter how horrific (and I really mean, it is horrific  ) the original was, it had one of the best line ups a charity single has ever seen, and this one seems to be going to same way!.. Hope they release it over here, it deserves some recognition in contrast to this 'Everybody "X-Factor" Hurts' crap.
