I've made some research and done the cumulative table of 2010 and 2009 sales and here what I got. Source - sales threads on this forum. :)

We see that both singles and albums sales are rising. I didn't expect it from the albums I must admit.

IRO the albums, perhaps the very low start to 2009 was due to the demise of Woolies, and now people have got used to new sources of supply?

I also didn't expect a good rise of album sales. But thanks anyway! :D

The singles sales continuing to climb is great. :)

Interesting indeed comparing sales overall so far from 2009 to 2010. It'll be more interesting to see how much difference there will have been at the end of year.

Album sales aren't that bad in comparisent from 2000/2009. I thought it would have been alot lower. But singles have gone through the roof! Surely record companies are making more money now, despite album sales declining a little.

And thanks for doing a compare - I said in the sales thread that I thought album sales were up on last year and I guess i was right! YAH! It is nice to see growth for a change and although its only by a small margin, it's a step in the right direction

Digital single sales don't provide as much profit as physicals though.

Good news anyway! And a great thread

Does it really though? Lets face it, once the song is out to download, then its there forever more, and I guess a set price to have it there. Whereas with a cd, you have to pay for printing, plastic, the cd and shipping. Single sales have nearly trippled since 2000 and the drop in album sales wasn't as much as what i thought it would be. I'm probably clutching at straws though

Yeh, CD singles were (are) £3.99 each, that would bump profits up enough to make a difference! the record companies made alot more money ten years ago.

Good point!
