27 - SHONTELLE - 5.78

She had some amazing songs last year including 'T-Shirt', 'Battle Cry' and 'Stuck With Each Other', which I seemed to be the only fan of. Also, her "comeback" single 'Licky (Under The Covers)' is vastly underrated on here, despite being very similar to lots of artists' previous material.

I was actually very surprised by his last album, as I only really liked 2 of the songs I heard from his debut album. Highlights from 'R.O.O.T.S.' include the singles 'Jump', 'Right Round' and 'Sugar'; 'Be On You'; and more which I can't remember currently.

Shontelle is alright, don't think too much of 'Licky' and her newer stuff though. I loved 'T-Shirt', 'Battle Cry' and 'Stuck With Each Other' though :wub:.

 

I also quite like Flo Rida surprisingly although 'Low' is hideously overrated. I love 'Right Round', 'Sugar', 'Jump', 'Elevator' and 'In The Ayer'.

Shontelle :wub: I do love me a bit of a watered down Rihanna. What score did I give her!? :o It must have been and 8 or 9! Surely. SWEO is amaze. Just got old rather quickly... 'T-Shirt', as generic as it is, never will!

 

Flo-Rida was good last year too! 'Be On You' being my favourite :heart: Both shockingly low though tbh :o

Hard was brilliant, my second favourite from Rated R. The fact she chose to release Rude Boy in its place is baffling.

 

Poor Shontelle, I dont think she really has enough potential to be THAT huge, shes very samey to other artists and unoriginal. Battle Cry was just amazing, one of the best songs of 2009. Licky isnt a very good song to launch off a second album, stick as a B-side maybe though.

 

Flo Rida's very meh. I quite liked Right Round and love his appearance on Bad Boys but Low is horrific.

She deserves way better than this! From the 3 songs I remember/play occasionaly, 'Right Hand Hi', 'Daydreaming' and 'Step' are all amazing. I hope she gets the success with 'Daydreaming' that 'Right Hand Hi' failed to achieve, although that's very unlikely.

Kid Sister is amazing. I've loved her ever since I heard her on Count & Sinden's 'Beeper'. Her album is proper immense too, 'Get Fresh', 'Right Hand Hi', 'Daydreaming', 'Pro Nails' are all amaaazing.

I'm impressed that she got this high tbh considering that she hasnt really had that much sucsess. Pleased for her though, the albums great and Daydreaming is stunning.

25 - MARIAH CAREY - 6.04

I'm kind of on both sides of the fence with Mariah. On one side, her album was quite good and includes amazing songs such as 'Obsessed' and 'H.A.T.E.U.'. On the other side, they completely messed up the UK release, by releasing her cover of 'I Want To Know What Love Is' as the 1st single in the UK. It flopped here and worldwide, and pretty much ended the 'Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel' era.

2009 was an awful year for Mariah. Obsessed was a good song but the album was dire. One of the worst of 2009 and not helped by the awful awful awful cover of I Wanna Know What Love Is.

I've never been a huge Mariah fan tbh - she has a few good songs but nothing else - but 2009 she outdid herslef in terms of $h!t material.

Kid Sister is far too low! :(

'Ultraviolet' is a great album, I hope 'Daydreaming' does well with Radio 1's backing! (Although I somehow doubt it. =[ )

 

Mariah is dreadful. She would've definitely have received my -1 if it was not for 'Obsessed'. Literally one of my favourite songs from 2009, yet I hate literally every other song by her and just find her generally awful...odd.

Mariah is "OVA!" Seriously. She should stop trying now as it's only getting worse for her, the more she does try.

 

Kid Sister, sorry to say, but apart from the sublime 'Daydreamin'', I really don't like 'Ultraviolet' the album anymore. It got boring after one listen for me personally.

24 - CHIPMUNK - 6.23

How did he finish about MiMi!? His album is full of tacky filler, and the only songs on there that I'd go out of my way to listen are 'Oopsy Daisy' and 'Lose My Life', and occasionally 'Chip Diddy Chip'.

I don't really like Mariah's music - but she was amazing in Precious.

I don't care what any of y'all say, Mariah's album was one of the best of 2009. #fact

 

I have no idea why it didn't catch on, but it's one of her stongest I think. Her single choices were rather awful though and she should have let the album have featuring credits on in the first place.

Really hated Chipmunk for the first few months of the year and I still mantain that Diamonds Rings and Chip Diddy Chip are awful, awful records. However he really turned it around after that since both Oopsy Daisy and Look For Me are fantastic records.

The albums is nowhere near perfect but still decent enough (oh and so much better than Mariah's dirge :P)

Agreed 100% with Aled. Chipmunk's album, although nothing amazing, was a very pleasant surprise. 'Oopsy Daisy' and 'Look For Me' were always the standouts and he's doing the correct thing by moving onto new material whilst the hype is still there. 'Until You Were Gone' is a surefire Top 5 smash in the waiting, surely?!
