I would post a massive essay at how and why Jade "Sugababe" is $h!t, but instead I'll just say that 'Punching Out' is amazing and she should've never surrended to the SugaBosses.

Poor Jade, I gave her the only ten :( This was for Eurovision related reasons mainly, and for giving the UK some much needed credibility for a year at least - It's My Time was gorgeous

It might be my favourite all male song from last year - if that counts?! I really can't be bothered to listen to the album, it's like...over an hour long.

I still don't get people who cite Rihanna as their favourite artist. :( I can't imagine someone thinking "hmm...I really like this girl with a croaky voice, female artists get no better than this". "Hard" was decent, but I found it a bit throwaway. :(

Rihanna has definitely grown on me over time. Her voice can still be incredibly irritating but I think it's part of the charm, along with her personality and 'fierceness' :heehee: I wasn't a fan of any of her singles up until Unfaithful ironically, which I loved despite her being at her most excruciating on it vocally. I think it's a great song, and whilst it would have maybe been more pleasant to listen to by someone with a more traditional voice, it also would have maybe sounded more generic? I think Rihanna has the power to turn generic songs into individual ones just by the way she presents them. I bought Rated R cautiously expecting to hate it but to be honest, I prefer it to Good Girl Gone Bad! Amazing album for me  She's no way my favourite artist, but she pretty much has a 100% strike rate with me now - although Rude Boy is maybe my least favourite single of hers since Rehab or We Ride, it seems a bit throwaway for her when we know that she's capable of much more innovative pop, but like you say, it was probably a conscious decision by the record company to get the most commercial song on the album out there to try and get at least one huge hit out of it (in the US at least) to boost album sales. But it's probably in my bottom five songs on Rated R :o

Hard was brilliant, my second favourite from Rated R. The fact she chose to release Rude Boy in its place is baffling.

Agreed on Hard, however it was clever rather than baffling in my opinion. Rude Boy will win back the Good Girl Gone Bad era fans that disliked Russian Roulette. Hard probably would have pushed them even further away.

Agreed with this, I love her because she's different to alot of female artists. Except I liked her since the moment I heard 'Pon De Replay' and have followed her career ever since, which is probably why I'm such a huge fan and am kind of protective about her I think. I know her voice isn't exactly the best out there, but I think it's distinctive and unique which 'make' her songs I think. Oh and she has an absolutely adorable personality and puts on a great show when I went to see her live. Okay, enough looning for me now.

I don't care what any of y'all say, Mariah's album was one of the best of 2009. #fact

I have no idea why it didn't catch on, but it's one of her stongest I think. Her single choices were rather awful though and she should have let the album have featuring credits on in the first place.

I feel the love. "Memoirs" is, in my opinion, easily one of her most cohesive & artists efforts. It's one of my favourite Mariah albums, one that I know I will keep coming back to. It's just ashame the record is not full of radio friendly material, but then, I don't need my favourite songs to have a catchy hook or poorly constructed melodies...

Definitely, I'm not quite sure why it was so slated. The worst thing being that she seemed to really believe in the material and I'm assuming she worked with the same producers throughout, had no features and had all these interludes so the album would receive praise. It only seemed to backfire on her and everyone has been making claims that she's over.

Ok, maybe it's not full of radio friendly material, but it's far from a weak album. I think it's because it's more of a soul album, than usual Mariah. I'm not saying it's exactly India.Arie or Alicia Keys, but the main criticism of it seems to be "bland" which (being a Beverley Knight fan) is a comment I'm used to from people who don't like Soul music.

I can only hope she goes ahead with another album, Mariah is still better than most of her competitors.

But the thing is, the thing that made Mariah the star she is today (well, what's left anyway ) is her voice. She just hasn't got that anymore, and so people are losing interest. (Especially here in the UK.) We're not as bothered about her now we have our own "Mariah's/Whitney's" in Leona and Alexandra etc... Also I truly believe one of the things that puts people off her is that awful squealing she does on almost every track nowadays. There's just no need for it.

Well that's how I feel about her now. 'Obsessed' is as brilliant as it is, because it was a little bit different for her and it was in a style she could still do.

True, there are now people with better technical voices than Mariah, but her record voice is still good. I'm not sure what you mean by the squealing, but I thought the reason people didn't like the album is because the vocals were too relaxed? She's always used her whistle register anyway, so why would people suddenly go off it? Actually, isn't that the thing you're saying made her a star? I only realy notice it on "I Want To Know What Love Is" (probably my least favourite on the album) and that was a cover with those big vocals - which was classic Mariah. In fact, I thought that's what the whole purpose of this album was - to be more like her old school self.

Meh. I just think Mariah can't win any more.

How can anybody like Chipmunk?!? Had i ranked/voted he'd be my -1 fo' sho'. Lady Sov also needed my help

I don't really like Mariah's music - but she was amazing in Precious.

She was terrible in Precious. The only thing that lets down that gorgeous movie.

'Dead And Gone' is probably one of my favourite songs of his, along with 'Live Your Life' and 'Whatever You Like'. Infact, I've liked loads of his material from the past year! 'Remember Me' was also great.

'Supernova' was and still is epic, and is probably in my top 15 songs of 2009. When I first heard about 30-seconds of it, I didn't think much of it at all, so was very surprised that I loved it when I first heard it in full on 'Chatty Man'.

Iirc I only gave him a 6. No idea why really, think I'd forgotten how much I loved 'Whatever You Like', 'Live Your Life' etc.

His new song 'I'm Back' is brilliant too, one of my favourite songs this year so far. Can't wait for the new album.

As for Mr. Hudson, I loved him at first (well, 'Supernova') but it grew old quite quickly for me sadly. =[

Wasn't too keen on the album either.

Oh LOL so many 9's look terrifying tbh. Random thought :heehee: [/jonjo]

Was Drake on the original ranklist?

Not that bothered on either of them tbh. TI's highlight is Live Your Life and whilst Dead & Gone was allright, i've not been impressed with anything else.

Supernova was pretty good but Hudson ruined everything by appearing on that awful N-Dubz record.

Was Drake on the original ranklist?

I've just checked...and no he wasn't.

Tbh I think it's fair that he wasn't really, he hasn't properly released anything in the UK yet (except 'Forever' which missed the top 40) so I wouldn't consider him one of the UK's 'biggest' R&B stars of last year.

Hopefully by this time next year, he'll have a few number 1 singles and a million-selling album to his name! :kink:

When I first heard 'Down', I thought it was genius, but then after about 4 weeks, it wore off me, and I saw how truly generic it was (like the rest of his album). Although good, he really needs some originality, and it's obvious he only broke the US due to Lil' Wayne / Sean Paul & Lil' Jon featuring on his records.

Absolutely criminal that he finished this low! 'Bonkers' was one of my top songs from last year and 'Holiday', although it got boring fairly quickly, listening to it recently had made me realise how much I actually still love it!

I really like Jay Sean, his latest album is really good!

not a fan of Dizzee though.

Glad that JHud is top 20! :D (Although I think she'll be up soon)

Brilliant for Jay. Although he has a little bit of an ego growing. 'Down' was one of the highlights of last year without doubt for me. It deserved the success it got. Also, although every song of his is generic, he seems to be improving with each release. It's odd...

Dizzee. First 3 singles were AMAZING. ('Dance Wiv Me', 'Bonkers' (although only "amazing" in the club and stuff) & 'Holiday') but they wore off fast. But I was really looking forward to his album, but that turned out to be shit! :(
