Leona Lewis eyes X Factor mentor role

Leona Lewis wants to be a mentor on 'The X Factor'.

The 'Bleeding Love' hitmaker - who rose to fame after winning the 2006 series of the ITV1 talent show - is keen to bag a "bigger role" on this year's series, but would also like to help the acts coming through the programme because she has done it herself.

She explained: "I always go on the show and sing, but I want to ask Simon Cowell for a bigger role.

"I couldn't be a judge this year as I've been busy working on my new album. I already know I'm going to be performing on the show this year but I'd like to do something different, maybe a mentor instead.

"I've been through the whole process, so I think I'd be able to give the new acts some good advice."

The 26-year-old singer - who split from long-term boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa last year - is hard at work on her third album, and reveals it will have a "darker" tone than the rest of her music.

She added to Reveal magazine: "I wanted to put my heart into my lyrics, so most of my new album has a darker tone to it. It's not just about my ex, or any one person, it's a mix of emotions.

"But it's not all sad. I'm in a really happy place right now, so there are some upbeat tracks too."

GAH. Just hurry the fuck up please :(

But I agree. She should be mentoring the contestants as well as performing. Glad to see official confirmation, from her mouth, she has a slot guaranteed though :D

I've wanted her to mentor for a while so I'm happy she does too. :) Really hope she stops recording soon. -_-

I always thought she'd be a great mentor/judge. She says the word INSTEAD no Leona we want you to perform AND be a mentor. :heehee:

I'd love to see her have more of a role on The X Factor, especially as she is the biggest star from the show, and most probably always will be.

WE WANT NEWS FOR 3RD ALBUM. Things need to start moving along, July tomorrow, and then we'll be expecting the lead single next month!

energetic, deep, unique

Wow, three great words, exciting stuff.

Also strange artists shes listed there, not strange bad way, just out of the oridnary i'd say..interesting.

Just played Bass and Guitar on Leona Lewis's new single. good tune!!!

@THEDAUNTING What kind of song is it that you worked in for Leona? Up-tempo, mid-tempo, ballad?

@marcus_jb up tempo reminded me of massive attack blue lines era

Reminds him of Massive Attack? :o That was unexpected! But it's uptempo! :cheer:

Andrea Martin (co-writer of Better In Time) has been involved in Leona's third album:

She mentions her at the start and then at 1:29.

'Better In Time'! Always was my favourite from 'Spirit'. So I hope they create something equally as good!
Well, hurry the f*** up and get a single out. Jesus! :drama: I don't think I can wait much longer. I'm really impatient when it comes to some of my favourite artists. I hope they pick something different for her. I don't mind if it's a ballad, as long as it's a different ballad to what we've heard from her before!

Yeah I think a ballad can work, it just needs to be commercial. Something like 'Irreplaceable' or 'Halo' - i.e. catchy.

I really get the vibe that we'll be getting an 80s-influenced album with a new-wave sound a la 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)', 'Tainted Love' etc.

The producers she has been working with have made me excited. :D

It seems like a lot is going on at the moment behind the scenes. I think it's the calm before the storm. I can't see the first single premiere being a non-event like Happy was. I know it was played on Radio 1 but there was virtually no hype or anticipation built up which there needs to be this time around.

At least Radio 1 should playlist the upcoming single.

They wouldn't have her performing at the pre-Olympics Hackney gig if they don't support her.

Radio 1 can be very strange. Like The Saturdays did Live Lounge and that very same week they were dropped from the playlist. Leona also did Live Lounge for I Got You but they never put it higher than C-List. Alexandra Burke also did an interview with Chris Moyles for Start Without You I think (might have been All Night Long) and they never playlisted it at all.

I do think they will definitely support the first single though. :)

I think UK commercial success is pretty much a certainty with this era but I'm more worried about her international career. I think she'll do reasonably well in Europe (Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria etc) but the U.S. can be unpredictable. I think she should just stick to what she's best at but needs the singles to be commercial too. With Adele dominating, radio DJs would think "Leona's type of music is what's hot right now" rather than "Leona's blatantly trying to cash in on Adele's success".

We'll see though. From the sound of it, Leona doesn't seem to be jumping on the bandwagon (a little too late) so that's a good sign.

I think the Alexandra Burke interview was about something completely different though. Wasn't that when she was doing that mountain climb in aid of Breast Cancer or something. Also, The Saturdays were probably coming to the end of their popularity/peak with 'Notorious'.

I think 'I Got You' was lucky to be C-Listed given that it's not the most R1-friendly song and followed an underperforming single.

I'm almost positive the new single will be at least B-Listed.

Which surely means there isnt long until we hear something about the single!!

I just hope they release more singles this time. IMO the Echo era was so so messed up

They need back-ups and to act fast if a single stalls. They waited far too long after Happy to release I Got You. They need to take note of Gaga's label; as soon as Judas started stalling on US radio they got Edge Of Glory straight out.

OMG FINALLY!

Yeah it was. :(

The single release schedule should have gone:

Happy - September 2009 (November 2009 UK)

Can't Breathe - November 2009 (January 2010 UK)

Love Letter - February 2010 (US only)

Outta My Head - NOT RELEASED IN US (April 2010 UK)

Don't Let Me Down [feat. Justin Timberlake] - April 2010 (July 2010)

----------------RE-RELEASE--------------------

Scene Of The Crime - August 2010 (September 2010 UK)

(New track that hasn't leaked) - November 2010 (December 2010 UK)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>END OF ERA<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Anyway, hopefully this era will be handled far far better. If it isn't, please sign a petition to get me out of jail after I murder Simon Cowell and all of his incompetent idiots.
