Lady Gaga feat Beyonce – Telephone climbs to #1

Following the full release and continued airing of the video, superstars Lady Gaga & Beyonce call in at #1 this week. This track didn’t seem to establish a connection at first but then rose to #12 following video release. This week both artists have rung up their forth chart topper each, with a second double as the album The Fame Monster returns to #1. Exactly a year ago Poker Face topped the singles chart after lagging behind all week and also scoring a double with the original The Fame album.

Cheryl Cole – Parachute climbs to #6

Despite her continuing personal problems and laryngitis curtailing her promotion efforts this week, it seems that Cheryl Cole doesn’t need a parachute to climb another 2 places. Even although Parachute is likely to peak lower than her last single 3 Words (which managed #4), it is very likely to outsell it in the long run. This is one of many examples whereby peak position does not necessarily tell the full story. Cheryl also fights her way back into the top 40 at #40 with her former chart topper.

Inna – Hot enters at #8

Romanian dance singer Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu gets her very first UK top 40 hit this week, going under the name of the rather more palatable Inna. Having been a huge hit in many countries in 2008 and 2009, Hot is finally released here and has indeed caught fire by entering at #8 highest new entry.

Black Eyed Peas – Rock That Body climbs to #11

The forth single to be lifted from the Black Eyed Peas million selling album The E.N.D. rocks its way up another 4 places to land just outside the top 10. Even with this being its full release week, the track could still make the top 10 but matching the #1 success of the group’s last 3 singles is not likely.

Skepta – Bad Boy enters at #26

British grime rapper Skepta enters at #26 with his new single Bad Boy, real name Joseph Junior Adenuga. Skepta has released a number of underground tracks from 2007’s Sweet Mother and 2008’s Rolex Sweep to 2009’s Sunglasses At Night. None of these releases ever became hits, however now he gets his top 40 debut becoming a Bad Boy in the process.

Glee Cast – True Colors enters at #35

And so the latest of the weekly Glee Cast entries this week makes #35, a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s 1986 hit True Colors. This now marks Glee’s 7th top 40 hit this year alone, they now have the most amount of top 75 entries in 1 calendar year at 17 so far including this week’s … showing no signs of letting up anytime soon. Oh and their version of John Lennon's all time classic Imagine debuts lower down outside the top 40 this week also.

This week’s misses

Robbie’s Morning Sun becomes his first to miss the top 40, however there is still hope thanks to Sport Relief. Hotly tipped singer Rox misses the top 40 with My Baby Left Me, it seems the top 40 did also. Paloma Faith turns herself Upside Down but still cannot make the top 40 with her 4th release in total. Delphic missed out with their first single, now the second Halcyon also misses the top 40. Michael Buble’s cover of Cry Me A River misses out, however it has already made the top 40 on the back of X-Factor.

Lady Gaga tops the album charts again with The Fame Monster

So Lady Gaga perhaps unexpectedly tops the album charts this week despite being behind Glee and Boyzone all week, this could be attributed to the HMV sale and also to continued media coverage. So entering at #2 is the cast of Glee with volume 2 of The Music, whilst former #1 volume 1 remains within the top 10 also. Sugababes fans will not be happy that their long awaited new album Sweet 7 misses the top 10 this week, however 3 top 10 singles is still quite good I guess. Not a lot else in the way of new albums, except perhaps a live album from White Stripes and new album from rapper Ludacris.

Personal opinion of 007!

I am very happy to see Gaga/Beyonce finally top the singles chart with Telephone, the song has grown on me lots lately. I really love Cheryl’s new song Parachute and think I may even prefer this to Fight For This Love, which I also adore. Not keen on Inna’s Hot very much, it’s not terrible but just doesn’t do much for me really. I quite like Rock That Body by BEP but it’s not nearly as good as the last 2, I hate Skepta almost as much as Glee’s ruination of True Colours.

Lady GaGa becomes the only 18th Act to have the No.1 Single & Album, (same Week),

more than once. She managed it in April 2009, as well. Her achievement is even bigger, when

you realise that she's only the 2nd Solo Female to achieve it more than once. Madonna is

the other. (She managed it in 1986, 1989, 2005, & 2008).

The only other Females to manage it more than once, were in Groups - Agnetha & Frida

in ABBA, (1976, 1977, 1978, & 1980), Spice Girls, (1996 & 1997), & Sugababes, (2005 &

2007).

I realise that 'Telephone' is not strictly a Solo Lady GaGa Single, (Beyonce is on it),

but, the fact that Lady GaGa is also Singing on it, means that she has achieved the

'Double Top', twice. Just as in 2008, (when Madonna did it for the 4th time), Justin Timberlake

was Singing on her Single. ('4 Minutes').

True Colours, Colours is spelled as Colors, don't forget Americans spell it different from the British.

If only you knew how painful it was for me to type the American spelling

It does annoy me as hell, if a British act released a track with the exact title it would be True Colours.

Thanks for your feedback guys, that annoying spelling of colors has been corrected (didn't think to check that) as has the #25 typo for Skepta. I see someone else has closed my other duplicate post ... my browser was acting up.

Unless that British act happens to be Phil Collins.

Typing American spellings into my spreadsheet is painful :(

True Colors, Return The Favor, Hypnotized. Ugh.
