I have noticed on the release schedule that 30h3 are re-releasing "Don't Trust Me" which was a top 40 last year and Marina and the Diamonds "I am not a robot" which was a flop last summer.

Why is this? Both albums have tracks on there itching to be released and offer hit potential, yet stupid record companies seem to give us old songs again all the time.

To me this makes out to people that there is nothing else on the album worth releasing. People would like to hear new songs, and not have a deja-vu of the previous years hits.

It's nothing but money making for a gullible public. If it flopped, it flopped. We can't try and undo that.

I Am Not A Robot's re-release, I have no problem with, it was more of a hype-single since most people see Hollywood as her first single.

The re-releasing of songs like Candy and Dont Trust Me though, which already made the top 40 and were relatively medium sized hits is pointless though and just shows theres nothing else of worth on said artist's album.

Yeah i saw Paolos Candy on the release schedule...thats ridiculous!!!! But sometimes it is a great idea. The first one to spring to mind is Florence & the machines Dog Days Are Over, im so glad it was re-released as it deserved to be heard now that shes made it big :)

its not unusual for tracks to be re-released once the artist has gained some popularity and radio has picked up on them. Lots of huge hits were released 2 or 3 times before they caught on.

I Am Not A Robot wasn't released properly in the first place, I'd hardly call it a flop...

Flo's hits I can understand somewhat, but there is a lot of potential on that album.

Paolo's "Candy" - just a cheap cash-in. What next "Pencil full of lead" the re-release :(

Yeah like Aled said, I don't have any problem with re-releasing songs like 'I Am Not A Robot', 'Dog Days Are Over', 'Quicksand', 'Hometown Glory' etc. as they were just 'hype' singles I think.

Re-releasing singles like 'Candy' and 'Don't Trust Me' is completely pointless and a waste of time if you ask me.

La Roux's Quicksand had a re-release failed to chart if even though it had huge support from Radio 1. I expect Paolo's Candy to do the same. 3OH!3 don't sure about them yet. I think 'Don't Trust Me' will re-peaking at #21 (again).

I generally understand people re-releasing stuff. I can see why 3OH!3 are going to re-release 'Don't Trust Me'. It was huge in many places outside UK. 'Starstrukk' did much less generally.

But re-releasing 'Candy' is just completely pointless (probably exposure, yes, but...), probably the only single I'm thinking "why release it again?".

I was just about to point that out - it was just a "buzz" single. I don't even think they sent it out to radio/video channels.

Eh, I have no problem with re-releases. Go back through the years and there's loads of great songs that became the hit they deserved to be after a re-release (and a handful that unfortunately became the hit they didn't deserve, too)

To me, it's just giving a song a second chance. Nothing wrong with that...

There are 3 songs that I can think off that 3OH!3 could've released - Follow Me Down, Colorado Sunrise or Still Around...

Like Aled said, if the artist has been successful since the single was released and didn't do very well, and there's obvious potential in the song then a re-release is fine, and sometimes this works really well.

I do agree with how pointless the re-releases of 'Don't Trust Me' and 'Candy' are though, and I'm most displeased about the latter as it was one of the worst songs of last year for me.

I agree with what everyone else has said - Candy and DTM are bizarre re-releases, but re-releases like IANAR, DDAO, Hometown Glory etc. are all fine

I have a feeling Ellie G may cancel 'Guns & Horses' or whatever the third single is and re-release Under The Sheets...

If a track didnt make the top 40 originally, then the artist goes and has a massive hit with a second single, then now that the public are aware of them, they can re-release their old songs and the public would be aware of them so it could do better

However, with Paolo Nutini and 3OH!3 it is silly, they already reached 19 and 21 respectively, so it is unlikely they will beat that peak second time

Thats Not My Name was a successful re-release. First time round in 2007 hardly anyone had heard it. Then The Ting Tings released it again in 2008 and it went straight to number one! The single before that (Great DJ) didn't reach the top 40 until after the hype of TNMN.

Candy is a bizarre re-release, as his album has already sold well so it's obvious it's not going to do well.

Don't see how Don't Trust Me is odd though. It clearly could have done a lot better than No.21. Lovefool (The Cardigans) and Insomnia (Faithless) were modest top 30 hits as well before being re-released, and went on to be major successes. Wouldn't be that surprised if Don't Trust Me outpeaked its original peak, especially after the success of Starstrukk.

'Great DJ' was disqualified with the single release for some reason, it did alright on iTunes at the time though. It made it into the top 40 because it was allowed to chart from album downloads on album release week.
