Like I said before, I find it to be like Fleetwood Mac covering The Carpenters particularly in the 'Close-air, close-air' harmonies. I like it but it's nowhere near a favourite and one of three tracks I used to skip on Forgiven Not Forgotten. They dropped it out of their tour setlist pretty quickly too (by Talk On Corners era wasn't it? :o) so I'm guessing they don't consider it amongst their best work, along with Would You Be Happier, 'the forgotten single'.

I think most of the FNF stuff got chucked out after Talk On Corners didn't it? I think Runaway, Forgiven Not Forgotten, Toss The Feathers and Erin Shore are the only ones which really lasted.

Like I said in the Lounge thread, it's the final minute or so which make the track - the piano, the girls harmonies, the guitar coming in right at the end; it's all absolutely beautiful.

I guess so, well apart from Carraroe Jig which later became Joy Of Life. I'm pretty sure they never dropped that. I was always surprised but incredibly pleased that my favourite Talk On Corners non-single, Queen Of Hollywood, was never dropped from their live set although everything else from the album was. I was ecstatic to hear it when I saw them in 2004! I hadn't realised it had been a fan favourite, I thought I was alone in loving it

20. The Right Time

I like this; it's cheesy as hell, but a lovely, uplifting, summer record. God bless Andrea's attempts to "dance" in the video though - it's easy to see WHY The Corrs never tried that again.

Not liking that remix...never even heard it before. Cheesy song, not a favourite but still very good. Stay tuned for my top 100 of the 90's countdown by the way, much of it is a Shoat-a-thon!

Oh I've seen - and GOD BLESS ALDA.

A legend. I'm sure she's available for nightclub P.A.'s at £50 a pop as we speak.

Sadly Google does not seem to have any information on her, so this cannot be confirmed. I do hope she hasn't died.

Right, now time for the only tied position in the countdown.

As Gooddelta says, this is the "forgotten" Corrs single. And deservedly so, because let's face it, it's bloody awful. By this point they really were straying DANGEROUSLY close to the dreaded bubblegum pop sound, which really would have been a step too far. The one redeeming feature is the video, which though cheesy, did manage to thoroughly p*** off Kerrang! magazine, who if I recall labelled The Corrs "pop buffoons" in their anger at their lampooning of heavy metal rockers and their silly hair.

18. Goodbye [2006 remix]

A remixed version of the Borrowed Heaven album track from '04. The fact that they chose this particular song with that particular title had a few people worried - and it seems with just cause alas. The next year saw Andrea's flop bid for solo stardom, 09 saw Sharon's, and the world eagerly anticipates (or perhaps not) Jim and Caroline's.

Apologies for the rather random video accompanied by mad pirate intro - YouTube does not provide many results for this version! It seems your average Corrs loon is not particularly internet-savvy.

Love both of those  I was literally Would You Be Happier?'s only fan. I knew it was completely fake/sellout for them but I loved it nonetheless. Goodbye was lovely, I don't like it quite as much as their other tribute to their mother, Angel, though.

LMFAO. This is just turning into a Gooddelta & Shoat Corrs love-in isn't it? :heehee:

Duo of the year, much? :P

Nobody else cares  all are welcome to join in the Corrs discussions!

I wish I'd rated actually. The Corrs had some decent songs actually.

'So Young', 'Runaway (TTO RMX)', 'Breathless' & 'Summer Sunshine' would all battle it out for my 11. (Probs would have gone to Breathless or Summer Sunshine in the end though... I despised 'What Can I Do?' though :puke:

Jonjo, you are more than welcome to join us and become a Corrs loon! Buzzjack needs more of them. We could be trio of the year.

17. Give Me A Reason

[#27 in the UK charts, 2001]

(Average score: 5.63)

I'm actually kind of disappointed to see this so low; for me this is actually my favourite In Blue single. Certainly I find it more memorable than Irresistible.

The Corrs get a bit weird and arty on us, with random horses running through houses, and Jim losing the plot a little. It's a little more dancey than usual, enhanced by the Cutfather and Joe remix that was sent to radio.

I'll also say that Caroline in particular looks stun-gorge here, although it's with no sense of irony that they all sing "my make-up is off" when it's clearly not even true of poor Jim.

I wasn't pleased that Give Me A Reason was the third single, I wanted All The Love In The World! Not that I'm sure it would have done any better chartwise, I just wanted them to release a ballad after two relative uptempos and it sounds like the sort of thing that could have unexpectedly smashed at the time, it was very polished a la Gabrielle - Out Of Reach or other ballads of the era.

All The Love In The World is awful! It's so soundtrack-y and completely out of place on In Blue. I'm always shocked actually that they gave up on In Blue so (relatively) quickly. If Give Me A Reason had been the second single I feel sure it would've made the top 15 at least, and then they could've released Irresistible followed perhaps by Say or One Night.

Anyway, Give Me A Reason is brilliant, one of my Corrs favourites.

I'm somewhere in the middle.

I don't think All The Love In The World is awful, but I don't agree that it would have worked any better as a single. It simply would have enhanced the reputation The Corrs always had for being completely-MOR.

I do also agree that Give Me A Reason should have been the second single. Irresistible was an awful choice, being almost a clone of Breathless. Give Me A Reason didn't do a lot on the singles chart, but if I remember right it did bounce the album back up into the top 20, and I'm sure it would have done even better had Irresistible not already ended a lot of interest in that era.

My single choices would have been

Breathless

Give Me A Reason

One Night.

16. Shame On You [Andrea Corr]

[#108 in the UK charts, 2007]

(Average score: 5.94)

And that's the last of the solo Corrs! Poor Andrea; she tried to pull out the big guns by hiring both Nellee Hopper and Bono for her production duties on her album, to try and shake off the MOR tag for once and for all, and come across a bit more leftfield and kooky. This first single was a statement of intent; the album version being all moody ambience, the radio edit going for the trance crowd. Not quite What Can I Do Part II.

I liked it anyway, and it was a predictable shame that the public didn't go for it.

One Night is so gorgeous. I've been listening to In Blue a lot this past week and I don't agree that it was altogether too poppy. The odd moment did descend into bouncy-pop territory but the singles, Say, All In A Day etc - most of those are quite blue-eyed and certainly bear some semblance at least to their roots.

I've already said it in the Discuss What You're Listening To, but I HATED Say. Far too twee. All In A Day was gorgeous though.

I don't think there's anything twee about Say whatsoever! Twee is Somebody For Someone or At Your Side (though I love the former and enjoy the latter).

Shame On You is SO BAD. And launching your solo career with a strange, half-arsed charity / 'awareness' single and video was never a good plan.
